Cardinals take series against Reds to close out August
The Cardinals (77-58) took 2 games of a 3 game series with the Reds in Cincinnati to start the week. The Cardinals lead is still 2 games over the Brewers as we head into the final month of the season.
The Cardinals won Monday and Tuesday night, but couldn't secure the sweep on Wednesday as Kwang Hyun Kim made his first start for the Cardinals after being claimed off of waivers from the Dodgers. Kim went 5.1 innings giving up just 2 hits, but unfortunately the Cards would be shut out.
After a much needed off day Thursday the Cardinals will head home for a 7 game homestand beginning with a 3 game weekend series against the Cubs. This will be the last series between the two in 2022.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.

Cubs Wrap Up: 2022 Presented by Jay
I posted a bit last year with my franchise but then stopped using that email address and got locked out... but i'm back with a new handle and ready to post about my cubs rebuild. I've been playing 1, then simming between 5-10 so I get play with a new starter every time. I typically play more but with not knowing how this team would I wanted to fast forward to the see if we will be buyers or sellers at the deadline.
Chicago Stays in the Hunt as All-Star Break Nears
The Cubs got off to a slow start but were able to right the ship. The Cubs had a 4 game lead at one point over St. Louis and the Brewers but a June filled with near .500 baseball saw that lead cut. On July 8th the Cubs sit at 52 and 36 and are .5 games back from the brewers.
The Cubs lineup has stabilized but many holes remain as some bats have never found their footing. Jason Heyward was able to come back from an early stint on the DL. He has performed better than previous season but is still hitting only .230 and is unplayable when facing a left. The Cubs made the move to call up Brennen Davis from Triple A Iowa. Davis is the 8th best prospect; he saw his numbers fluctuate when on the farm but was on a hot streak that saw his average rise to .270; He also lead AAA baseball with 11 home runs. Davis will get a chance to play consistently in center field as Heyward will move to left against right and Ian Happ will man the DH spot.
The Cubs had been led by Japanese sensation Seiya Suzuki. Suzuki started the season on fire and has flirted with leading the NL in batting average; though a recent slump has seen his average fall to a still impressive .328. Suzuki is contending to be a All-Star and likely would be a starter if it wasn’t for Juan Soto crushing the ball and having 30 home runs on the year. On the flip side Patrick Wisdom has become nearly unplayable due to his struggles. The 3rd baseman is hitting .202 on the year and has not been able to find the power as he still has single digit home runs on the year. His only saving grace has been that he plays excellent defense at the hot corner. Jonathan Villar has been more productive at the plate but is a liability in the field. At this point the Cubs have sides with defensive over production.
It appears that the Cubs have been competitive enough to not be sellers at the deadline but it’s been a mixed bag on if they will be buyers or roll with what they have. The front office is still eerily on adding any long term pieces that will deplete the farm system.Comment

As June Moves on, Tigers Rumored to be Interested in a Couple Trade Candidates(June 10th, 2022)
With the Tigers so far overachieving and ahead of schedule, they have been reported to have expressed interest in a couple players to fill/bolster positions in their lineup/rotation. Those Players are:
Sean Manaea LHP, of the Oakland A's, who has been the ace for a team which otherwise has struggled mightily so far this season. He has posted a 2.86 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP in 88.0 innings so far this season. He would be an addition to the starting rotation which has struggled so far this season.
Kyle Hendricks RHP, of the Chicago Cubs. The 32 year old has been also excellent this season, as the Cubs have been a huge disappointment this season for the North Side faithful. In 82.2 IP, he has a 2.94 ERA with a WHIP of 1.04. Similar to Manaea this would give the Tigers a piece in which could solidify their rotation the rest of this season.
The final rumor is Ketel Marte, the CF/Utility man of the Arizona D Backs. He has struggled this year to say the least, and a change of scenery could be exactly what he needs to turn this year around. He is only 28, but in the final year of what is a team friendly deal so an extension would also need to be discussed if he were to be dealt somewhere.
Of course, there is still plenty of time for new candidates to hit the market, and for the Tigers to get a deal done, but this is what has been swirling around the major league ranks the past week or so.Comment

Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread
We've hit June in my Braves dynasty.
We're 37-15 and in first place, but we've had a pretty soft schedule. The Mets are five back with the Nats and Phillies close behind. We had a three-game series in New York and the Mets took two out of three, beating us pretty handily twice. Then we split a four-game series in Atlanta, but the Mets trounced us in the two losses.
Thought I was done making trades for awhile, but Sean Newcomb and Kyle Wright are both struggling. We may end up looking for a back-end rotation piece in July. Neither Travis d'Arnaud nor John Ryan Murphy are hitting well, so catcher is a concern. We're playing the Orioles right now and I noticed Chance Sisco has yet to play a single game this season, even though he's on their active roster. And since they have him on their trade block, I think I'm going make an offer to give us some more catching depth.Comment

*****Philadelphia Phillies 2022 Franchise*****
Decided to start a second franchise with my favorite team, the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, this should be fun to try and end a ten year playoff drought. The bullpen will be the biggest question for this team as their offense on paper looks awesome. Some solid additions should sure up some holes from last seasons woes. The Phillies didn’t spend much on their bullpen arms so that will definitely be a storyline to watch.
The Phillies wasted no time scoring in their first preseason matchup vs the Yankees with newly acquired OF Kyle Schwarber taking Luis Severino deep on just the second pitch of the game. Bryce Harper added a solo HR in the 4th giving the Phillies all the runs they would score after managing a total of four hits on the day.

Cardinals split 4 game series with Nationals
The Cardinals (81-61) split a 4 game series with the Nationals in St.Louis to begin the week. The Cardinals lead over the Brewers is now 1 1/2 games.
The Cardinals won Monday and Tuesday behind Miles Mikolas and Kwang Hyun Kim. So heading into Wednesday and Thursday with Flaherty and Waino on the hill, the Cards felt good about their chances to sweep or at the very least take 3 of 4. Flaherty and Waino were tattooed in their starts and both lost. Flaherty was able to pitch out of self imposed jams (6 walks) but lost 4-1. Wainwright wasn't so lucky giving up 6 runs in 5 innings in a 6-1 loss.
The Cardinals will now travel to Pittsburgh for a key 3 game series with the Pirates. Its key because the Cardinals need to keep distance or expand the lead on the Brewers with the schedule coming up. In their final 20 games, 10 are against playoff contending teams, with 8 of those 10 games on the road.

2022 Arizona Diamondbacks 06/13-06/19
Overall Record:45-28 (1st NL West, 4.0 lead on Giants/Dodgers
Diamondbacks struggle in six game homestand
The Diamondbacks won just twice in six games at home. Both series were lost 2-1, first against the Reds and secondly against the Twins. The last two games against the Twins did not go well at all especially game two which saw Arizona fall 19-4. In that second game, the Twins had an absurd 25 hits which 13 were for extra bases and 8 of those 13 were for home runs.
The road ahead doesnt get any easier as Arizona travels to San Diego for a three game series vs. the San Diego Padres (40-33).
**Note every team in the NL West is above .500 with the last place Rockies sitting at 38-34...over in the NL East, only the first places Braves sit at 36-36 while the rest are below .500.Comment

Seattle Mariners close out the Twins to win series 3-1
The Mariners closed out their first road series of the year with a red hot performance from their lineup demolishing the Twins 14-1 Monday afternoon. The Mariners had patience at the plate all game and were consistently ahead in the count at almost every hitter. This paired with an inefficiency to hit the strike zone from the Twins pitchers today were major causes to the Mariners putting up 14 runs on 18 hits. Kyle Lewis has feasted in the 6 spot in the lineup all season and put on another show today as he went 5-5 with 2 2B, 2 HR and 7 RBIs. A solo shot in the fourth followed by a 3-run shot in the fifth and then to cap it off a 3-run double in the sixth were the highlights of his day. Not to be outdone, by his starter Matt Brash who went 8 innings only allowing one run and striking out 12. The Mariners (9-1) will next head to the Windy City to begin a three game set with the White Sox. The Twins (5-5) will look to rebound as they host the Dodgers (6-4) in a two game set.
Major Trades going down across the MLB
The Oakland Athletics have continued their firesale which started in the offseason as they made a few more deals to re-tool for the future. SP Frankie Montas was sent to the Minnesota Twins after months of rumored interest over the off-season. The trade lands the Athletics three of the Twins top seven prospects with IF Jose Miranda, SP Jordan Balazovic and SP Simeon Woods-Richardson headed to the west coast in the deal. In addition to Montas, RPs Gabe Klobosits and Lou Trivino are also headed to Minneapolis.
You would think that one big deal would enough the A's here on this Tuesday afternoon in April, but that was only the beginning. C Sean Murphy also long rumored to be available over the course of the off-season was sent to New York for a prospect haul including SS Oswald Peraza, OF Jasson Dominguez, IF Trey Sweeney, and RHPs Luis Gil and Luis Medina.
The Murphy trade set off fireworks in the catching market as that led to more trades over the course of the night with Seattle GM Jerry Dipoto at the forefront. C Tom Murphy who is the Seattle starter behind the dish is off to a hot start with 4 bombs on the year was quickly sent to Boston after the Murphy deal broke with the deal looking like this.
Mariners send C Tom Murphy and 3B Joe Rizzo to Boston in exchange for C Christian Vazquez, IF Alex Binelas, 3B Brandon Howlett and OFs Ceddanne Rafaela and Freddy Valdez.
Boston moves on from their long-time backstop in Vazquez who is an impending free agent at season's end and picks up Murphy who has an additional year of control through the 2023 season. The Mariners add some prospects with upside in 1B/3B Alex Binelas, 3B Brandon Howlett, 2B/SS/OF Ceddanne Rafaela and OF Freddy Valdez. "We are thrilled to acquire Christian Vazquez and some talented prospects to add to the mix. Christian gives us a leader behind the plate with a proven track record and we are excited to see what he can add to the lineup going forward for the rest of the year. We know he is motivated and is going to give us his best effort as he eyes a trip to free agency pending the season's conclusion" said GM Jerry Dipoto.
The Mariners with an eye to the future in mind with them envisioning Harry Ford as the potential catcher of the future decided that one trade wasn't enough. C Cal Raleigh, who in his ownright has the makings of a fine major league catcher with no spot in Seattle.
The Cubs came calling as an interested party for C Cal Raleigh as they don't have a clear catcher with long-term potential as Contreras is an impending free agent and Miguel Amaya hasn't looked great in the minors.
The Mariners agreed to send C Cal Raleigh, 3B Jose Caballero, OF Forrest Wall and OF Jack Larsen to the Cubs for OF Pete Crow-Armstrong, IF/OF Christopher Morel and C Pablo Aliendo. "We liked the deal here for a variety of reasons, as it gives us another young outfielder to build around for the future in Crow-Armstrong. We are happy to be able to send Cal somewhere where he is going to get a shot, our catching position was in flux today but we ultimately feel like we came out ahead on all of these deals. We were happy to include Forrest Wall and Jack Larsen in the deal as that will help us clear out some roster spots and to be frank, we weren't sure why the Cubs were interested in them. I mean have you seen them play? Wall swings a limp pool noodle at the dish and Larsen can't track a simple pop up to left" said GM Jerry Dipoto at a press conference this night in which he delved into each deal that went down.
Former top prospect OF Taylor Trammell, who didn't have a future in Seattle was given a chance by GM Jerry Dipoto and was sent to Pittsburgh in exchange for IF Tucupita Marcano. "We wanted to give the talented kid a chance to go somewhere where he can play and carve out a long-term spot for himself, and at this current time, we felt like there wasn't a future for him in Seattle and we wanted to do right by the kid" Dipoto said in an interview after the trade broke.Last edited by PandaWaffleHD; 05-18-2022, 03:10 AM.Comment
