      2022 Arizona Cardinals 06/20-06/22

Overall Record:45-31 (1st NL West, 1.0 above LA Dodgers 43-31)

Arizona swept by San Diego, continue downward spiral

Each game was close in this weeks series between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres but it was clear, San Diego is the better team. The Padres swept the D-Backs with scores of 4-3,5-4 and 2-1. Every time Arizona thought about pulling off a win, San Diego's stars quickly crushed their dreams.

Game two ended with a walk off hit by Trent Grisham after Mark Melancon let the bases get loaded in his third blown save of the season.

Game three was a low scoring affair with Tatis JR knocking in the eventual winning run in with a double in the bottom of the eight.

Arizona has now lost five straight, their longest losing streak of the season. Arizona is also 3-7 in their last ten while the rest of the division is positive in their last ten games. The Dodgers, Padres and Giants are all within 1.5 games of Arizona as the teams head toward July in a tight race.

Arizona will return home for a hopeful change of fortunes with a three game series against the Tigers (24-53).

Geraldo Perdomo sent down to AAA

Geraldo Perdomo was sent down to the AAA Reno Aces after game two of the San Diego series. He wasnt sent down because of his performances but instead to give Arizona another pitcher in the bullpen.

Perdomo did well enough when he did play for the Diamondbacks (.375 AVG) but that came in just 32 at bats as he was primarily used as a pinch runner which that situation did not come up enough to justify him losing out on playing time that he could get in Reno.

The move is a delayed move after the team originally decided to keep Wilmer Difo on the MLB squad after he was called up when Josh Rojas and Christian Walker served small stints on the IL.

Since Difo stayed, pitcher Tyler Gilbert was optioned to Reno and Arizona was a pitcher down. The recent pitching struggles showed the need for that seventh bullpen arm.

Keone Kela was called up to Arizona to fill that bullpen spot. He provides the team with a power fastball option that they didnt have prior to his call up.

Seattle looks to rebound heading into the month of March. The team hasn’t fair well so far going 1-2 in February to start the Spring.

Is it normal to see a lot of really young A potential prospects as free agents? I started my franchise using a live roster from a week ago and I’m seeing a lot of 18-20 year old free agents with A and B potential and overalls in the 70s but nobody seems to have interest in signing them

I’m really struggling to find the sweet spot for pitch speed. If I set it at four I’m getting everything blown by me and if I drop it to three I’m crushing 5-6 HEs per game. For now I’m just riding my pitching staff that has been dominant while I figure out hitting

Cardinals swept by Brewers...streak now at 7 straight losses

The Cardinals (81-66) were swept by the Brewers in a mini 2 game mid-week series and now see their losing streak extend to 7 straight. They also now trail the Brewers by 2.5 games with 15 games left in the season.

Jack Flaherty got the ball Tuesday night and was treading water until the 6th where he gave up 3 runs that would put the Cards down 3-1 at the time. The Cards would rally in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game at 3-3 on a Tyler O'Neill 2 run double. Unfortunately, the first batter Genesis Cabrera faced in the 9th, Christian Yelich, belted a moonshot into the right field seats putting the Brewers up 4-3 which would be the final score.

Adam Wainwright got the ball Wednesday night hoping to split, but he was knocked around. Yelich hit a 2 run homerun off of him in the 1st and Willy Adames would hit a solo in the 3rd making it 3-1. Hunter Renfroe would hit the 3rd HR off of Waino on the night in the 6th and that would be all for Wainwright and the Cards who fell 4-2.

The Cardinals remain home as they welcome the Reds to town for a 4 game weekend series as the pair face off for the final time in 2022. Cardinals need to right the ship and in a hurry or they could see their postseason aspirations vanish into thin air.

Braves (16-10) 1st in NL East, take series against the Cubs (10-15)4th in NL Central.

                    Game 1: L 2-4
This one was a little bit slow for the Braves. Unfortunately, the majority of the action came in the top of the 3rd when the Cubs scored all four of their runs. The Cubs didn't hit any home runs in the 3rd, just enough hits to put 4 runs in. On offense, Olson and Rosario both had solo HRs but it wasn't enough and the Braves come up short. Ynoa gets handed the loss (2-1)

                    Game 2: W 3-1
The only run for the Cubs in this one was gained in the 4th when Madigral hit a long Single allowing Simmons to score. For the Braves, Rosario had his second game in a row with a solo home run as he hit a deep one in the 2nd inning. Though he had only allowed one run, Muller had thrown a lot of pitches through the first 4 innings. Six different pitchers would take the mound in this game for the Braves before it was over. In the 5th Marcell Ozuna was called in to hit a solo home run, two for him on the year. In the 8th, with bases loaded, Rosario was walked giving him an RBI to add to his solo home run from earlier. Rosario on a roll right now, playing great last series and this series.

                    Game 3: W 8-1
Home runs all over the place on this one. Albies, Swanson, Acuna, Olson, Riley, and Rosario, the first six hitters of the order all had a home run at some point in this game. This made 3 games in a row in which Rosario hit a home run. Albies, Acuna, and Rosario now have five home runs a piece on the year. Swanson, Olson, and Riley all have six. Newcomb picks up the win here (1-0) as he pitched 3 full innings. Fried would start the game but leave in the 2nd inning with a strain.

Next series is against the Texas Rangers (8-18) 5th in AL West

Cardinals take 3 of 4 from Reds

The Cardinals (84-67) took 3 games of a 4 game series with the Reds in St.Louis over the weekend and now have crawled back to within a game of the Brewers in the NL Central who struggled against the Yankees.

The Cardinals dropped the series opener on Thursday night which saw their losing streak extend to 8 games, when Dakota Hudson was treated like a pitching machine.

Friday, things changed. Staring their 9th straight loss in the face with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th, Tyler O'Neill would launch a dramatic 3-2 pitch into the left field seats to tie the game at 2. In the bottom of the 12th, Tommy Edman would double home Lars Nootbar from first with a ball in the right center gap for the walkoff win and snapping the losing streak.

Saturday the Cardinals didn't wait for dramatics as they jumped out early in the 1st inning with Nolan Arenado delivering a 2 run double scoring Edman and Carlson. Kwang Hyun Kim wouldn't need anymore, although the Cards put up 6 runs, as he pitched a complete game giving up 1 earned run on just two hits and striking out 8.

Sunday, again the Cardinals wasted no time, with Tyler O'Neill launching a grand slam in the first in route to a 7-2 Cardinals victory which would earn Jack Flaherty his 14th win of the season.

The Cardinals are off on Monday as they make a trip out West to start a 3 game series with the Padres and then conclude the trip with a 3 game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The Padres and Dodgers are fighting for the NL West and a wildcard spot, something the Cardinals are doing themselves so these 6 games are huge. Oh, and after this the Cards make a trip to Milwaukee for a mini 2 game series with the Brewers.

If the Cardinals want to play October baseball, these 8 games will be key to that happening.

                      Remaining Schedule

                      3 @ Padres
                      3 @ Dodgers
                      2 @ Brewers
                      3 VS Pirates

Dylan Carlson tears ACL..done for the season

Dylan Carlson is done for the rest of the year after tearing his ACL Tuesday night in San Diego. While his batting average is low .240, Carlson had raised that average over 100 points since Memorial Day and found his spot in the lineup hitting in the #2 hole. His glove work has been exceptional as well.

Huge blow for the Cardinals as they chase the postseason with just 10 games left in the regular season. Now they must decided who will play RF everyday and hit in the two spot.

Juan Yepez was recalled from Memphis.

Just had an awesome game vs the Phillies. Up 5-3 I get a hard hit ground ball but I wasn’t paying attention and forgot a man was on first and I just threw to first instead of turning an inning ending double play. Then Kyle Schwarber comes up and hits a two run homer to tie it. Then in the bottom of the 7th I get a one out single from Alonso and two walks. I bring in Jankowski to pinch run for Alonso and score on a sacrifice fly that Alonso probably would have been out on, then I get another insurance run. Only problem is I forget that I pinch ran and forgot that I needed to adjust my defense until my pitcher started his windup. Sure enough the first pitch is a grounder to SS and he has to throw to my LFer who is playing first base and he drops the throw. Luckily I turn a double play and erase the error then I hang on for another inning for a 7-5 win. Mets have a 1.5 game lead over the Braves, four days until draft day
