I'm loving that the Cubs are going all in here, it's going to make for an awesome rivalry with your Cardinals!

These offseason posts are really what I need to keep grinding with my Nationals franchise, I've been slacking a little. I was managing a series every two days or so, but now it's just dragging out into a near week process.

I hope you have better luck with Gallo than I did. I was playing with the Rangers and he was jogging the bases or walking back to the dugout. Mostly walking back to the dugout.
I know you use zone so maybe you can override his shortcomings. I play timing so I’m dependent on attributes.
With the new no shift rule this year IRL I think you will see the Seager’s and Gallo’s of the world do much better in regards to BA.

        .
        This sounds historically accurate lol.

The Nationals, oh the Nationals. They did manage to win the series finale against the Cubs, but what an ugly series for both teams. The Cubs won the first two games 1-0 each, not much to say about either game other than average pitching beat poor batting.

Mackenzie Gore had his best outing as a pro in the finale: 6 innings, 2 hits, a walk, an earned run, and 8Ks. His pitch count was around 80 after 6 and he has struggled mightily facing batters for the third time. He still nearly lost the game or got a no decision, as a leadoff walk in the seventh and shaky bullpen arms nearly led to another late inning collapse.

Luis Garcia played his first games in the series, collecting a couple of hits and working a walk. The Nationals need someone like him, as many of the bats have fallen silent and the lack of plate discipline has resulted in many struggles as of late.

Stephen Strasburg left the second game in the third inning and went on the 15 day IL with a shoulder sprain. Patrick Corbin was brought in and was injured in the very next inning...that's the season in a nutshell. Fortunately for him it is just a finger strain and he will be out a few days. The Nationals have called up Hunter Harvey to fill the void, he will most likely work in a long relief or opening role until Strasburg comes back.

The Nationals are now 41-76, which is the third worst record in baseball. Only the Pirates (36-79) and A's (35-80) are worse.

The Nationals now have an off day before going to Washington to play the Padres for three and the Cubs for three, followed by a trip to San Diego for another three against the Padres. They will stay out west and play the Mariners for two games before coming home to finish off the month of August against the Reds and the A's.

          Colorado Rockies 2022

Finally got '22 on sale last week. Struggled to pick a team, but settled on the Rockies because of how ridiculous that division is.

First order of business was to trade away Bard (Cubs), Grichuk (Mets), and German Marquez (Phillies).

Made a couple of free agent signings to fill out my roster, with Gary Sanchez, Zack Greinke, and Alex Reyes.

Took 15 innings for me to finally solve the Dodgers pitching staff

          Game 1: LAD 5 vs. COL 0 (Greinke 5.0 IP, 2 ER, 3 K)
          Game 2: LAD 2 vs. COL 4 (Kyle Freeland 6.1 IP, 1 ER, 5 K)

I added some decent prospects in the Marquez deal, taking on Scott Kingery's salary dump (and subsequently DFA'ing him), to up the return, getting Justin Crawford, William Burgola, and (I think?) Johan Rojas to my farm system.

Bard was dealt to the Cubs, and brought back Nick Madrigal and Jackson Ferris.

The Mets deal was a bit different, with Grichuk heading to NY in exchange for Carrasco and Joey Luchessi.

Looking forward to potentially having a rough go, and having to make some tough long term decisions. My plan is:
Year 1-Hover around .500 as long as possible, slowly bring up young guys to get a taste. I'd obviously like to add a good up and coming player via trade, but if things go off the rails, I'll try to sell off some guys like Senzatela, Ryan McMahon, and Austin Gomber. None of them are game changers per se, but I need to make room long term for the young guys. If I'm doing better and competing for a wild card spot, there's no way I'm not hunting in the trade market for a long term addition.
Year 2-If I finish year 1 around .500, I *Hope* to try and hit the FA market to some degree. The 2024 class is nothing compared to this years, but there are still some exciting players that could potentially become available. With the Coors factor, I don't think I can realistically go after much pitching wise without it being a trade.

Edit: Playing all 162 with Allstar hitting/HOF Pitching.

I've always had a tough time doing them and trying to keep some form of realism to it. I just end up with too many top prospects right off the bat. Using trade values from bbtv will *hopefully* keep me engaged. Plus, I was screwing around with the Jays and lost something like 7 of 10...seems like I've found a spot where it's going to be (again, hopefully...) a lot tougher to win games.

I did the Rockies for a bit in '20, but the park factors seemed a bit ridiculous (granted, it was a fairly small sample size). Hoping it's toned down slightly, but I'll be fine either way. Pretty exciting knowing that my farm is fairly barren (Zac Veen will be fun and Tovar was my opening day SS), my rotation is a hot mess, and the bullpen is disgusting. Add that to the fact that I don't have anything in the way of high-value veteran trade chips, and it all works out to (hopefully) be a major grind. The NL West is going to be friggin' tough to push through...even the D'backs are good enough to challenge for a wildcard.

Yeah I feel ya. I always do rebuilds and if that rebuild starts to feel contrived then I won't continue with it. It's not realistic to just pry away a bunch of other teams top prospects. It's too easy to get them you have to be disciplined enough to ask yourself "why would the other team make this trade?"... so yeah it's much easier to enjoy a rebuild with teams that have pretty much nothing to trade that any other team would give up a prospect for.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing a Pirates franchise and I seen someone here make a trade for Taylor award. That made me think that would be fun. I didn’t play yet but I made trades and got Eduardo Escobar from the Mets, Taylor award from the Angels and Michael Taylor from the Royals. Also traded Reynolds and Bednar to the Mariners for Gilbert, Brash, and Kelenic. Found that on BBTV.

But I feel like getting Taylor and Ward is going to make the Pirates seem unrealistic and lose interest.

Yeah see , Seattle would never trade Gilbert, especially at this point when they're making a run at the pennant for the next few years. That's where in a rebuild if you ask why the other team would make the trade, most of the time they wouldn't. That's why I find rebuilds so challenging and fun.

I could see them wanting reynolds for kelenic, if there is an opening in their outfield where he would start.

                        APRIL 7-9: FLAGSTAFF (7-3) @ PRESCOTT (3-6)
Stadium: Dignity Health Park (Capacity: 11,444)

                        April 7: Hot Shots 12, Hops 7
                        April 8: Hot Shots 9, Hops 3
                        April 9: Hops 6, Hot Shots 4

Prescott, AZ (AP) - The Flagstaff Hops hot start was cooled off in Prescott as they dropped two of three to the Hot Shots to open their first road trip of the season.

The Hot Shots prevailed in their home opener as they pounded out 15 hits and posted a 12-7 victory over the Flagstaff Hops. Harwill O’Kane hit two, three-run home runs to help pace the offense and lead Prescott to the victory.

Prescott jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first thanks to O’Kane’s first three-run home run.

Noah Wilson would hit a three-run blast in the third off of Juro Yamaguchi, to make it 7-0 Hot Shots.

The Hops came to life in the fifth, getting back three of their own. Robbie Westbrook singled home Arturo Mardones. It was Westbrook’s 10th RBI for the Hops already. Leandro Lugo singled home Forrest Owen, and Art Mason grounded out, allowing Robbie Westbrook to score.

But the Hot Shots would score four more in the sixth, capped off by O’Kane’s second three-run home run of the game.

Flagstaff, with a potent offense, would not go away though. They scored four in the top of the seventh to get right back in it. Art Mason grounded out to Harwill O’Kane with the bases loaded to score Forrest Owen. Josh Ortega struck out, but reached on a wild pitch, scoring Robbie Westbrook. Rodney Millar then homered to center, his second on the season, to cut it to 11-7.

Matt Olsen would add a solo home run in the eighth to close the door on the Hops.

Juro Yamaguchi (0-1) took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits in just three innings of work. Angelo Chacin wasn’t much better, allowing four runs on five hits in four innings of relief.

A sellout crowd of 11,444 was announced.

On Tuesday evening, the Hot Shots once again broke out the big sticks, hitting three home runs and pounding out 16 hits in a 9-3 victory over the Hops. Angel Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored to help pace the suddenly red-hot Hot Shots offense.

Prescott jumped on Sam Herzog early, scoring three in the first inning. A throwing error from Leandro Lugo lead to the first Hot Shots run. Juan Vargas then blasted a two-run home run to make it 3-0.

Donnie Roland hit a solo home run in the top of the second, but Matt Olson responded with a solo shot of his own in the bottom half. Angel Rodriguez then hit a three-run shot in the third to put this one away.

Sam Herzog (1-1) took the loss, lasting just four innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on ten hits.

Donnie Roland went 2 for 4 with a homer, his second, in the loss. Josh Ortega went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs for the Hops.

In the finale, the Hops snapped a three game losing streak with a 6-4 victory over the Hot Shots to avoid the three-game sweep. Art Mason went 4 for 5 with two doubles and a homer to help lead Flagstaff to the win.

The Hops jumped on starter Arturo Velazquez in the first, scoring five times. Rodney Miller started the scoring with a bases loaded two-run single. Robbie Westbrook followed up with a sacrifice fly, and Emmitt Hampton hit a two-run home run, his third on the young season.

A Kris Kovach RBI single in the third got the Hot Shots on the board. Art Mason hit a solo home run in the fifth to make it 6-1.

The Hot Shots would put together an eighth inning rally to make things interesting. Angel Rodriguez hit a two-run home run off of Alex Farmer to cut the lead to 6-3. Matt Olson then homered off of Aldo Osuna to make it 6-4.

Vic Miller would come on in the ninth to shut down the Hot Shots and pick up his fifth save on the year.

The Hops (7-3) will have Monday off as they head down to Scottsdale for a two game midweek series against the Scorpions.

Around the League: Edwin Ortiz homered twice, including a walk off home run in the ninth, and drove in four as Salt River defeated Henderson 11-10. Bobby Gates hit two home runs and drove in six for the Firebirds in a 10-3 victory over Goodyear.

Mesa’ Richard Logan tossed a complete game, seven hit shutout, striking out six, as the Solar Sox defeated Tucson 2-0. Adolfo Villarreal hit for the cycle and drove in two runs as Salt Lake defeated Colorado Springs 6-4.

Salt River scored three in the bottom of the ninth and one in the tenth to rally for a 6-5 victory over Henderson. Tuan Santana’s bases clearing double tied it, and Eli Chavez’s solo homer won it as the Rafters walked it off to improve to (5-4). Surprise’s Alan Robert tossed eight shutout innings, allowing just one hit and striking out ten as the Saguaros shutout Glendale 5-0.

Blake Pacinelli homered in the ninth to tie it and again in the tenth to win it as Roswell rallied for a 6-5 victory over Santa Fe. Pacinelli went 2 for 4, driving in four runs in the win.

Young star pitcher Matt Campbell tossed a complete game, allowing just one run in an 8-1 victory for San Diego over Scottsdale. Campbell struck out ten and walked four, lowering his ERA to 1.38.

That's where in a rebuild if you ask why the other team would make the trade, most of the time they wouldn't. That's why I find rebuilds so challenging and fun.

I did read an article that if Seattle would include Kirby to get Reynolds it would probably make it work.

Guys I'm starting to think my game is hating me...I'm only on game two of my Padres series and can report this:

Game 1: Blake Snell can't find the strike zone, and when he does he gets hammered. Nats find themselves up 7-2 after four innings. They then find themselves losing in extras 8-7.

Game 2: The Nats find themselves up 4-0 after three innings. When I put the game down last night it was going into the 11th tied at 4.

As much as I want to blame a poor bullpen and poor user strike zone discipline, this is getting to be too much. The team is cursed I say, CURSED!

Stay tuned to see if I can salvage game two and what shenanigans are in store for game three.

                            Rebuilds are fun, they said.

                              Colorado Rockies Franchise

Just going to update sporadically until I can get into a groove. The boys jumped out to a 3-2 start, highlighted by a 9th inning comeback against the Dodgers to get them back to .500 in game 4 of the season. Ryan McMahon hit a solo shot off of Blake Treinen to send the game to extra innings, and then CJ Cron hit his 2nd homer of the season, a 2 run shot, to put the Rockies up for good.

In the opener of a two game set against the Padres, Kris Bryant, who came in with 1 hit on the season, came alive, going 4 for 5 with 2 homeruns and a double, knocking in 4 runs in total.

                              LAD 8 vs. COL 3
                              LAD 6 vs COL 8 (10 innings)
                              SD 3 vs COL 6

Way too early assessment: Splitting with the Dodgers was huge. If I can split with the top teams in the league, then hammer the bottom tier guys, I may have a shot to compete for a wild card.

Starting pitching: Very "meh". Kyle Freeland's start was the only one where I seemed to be able to miss bats, and while Joey Luchessi's line against the Pads looked decent on paper, the defence was the difference. Not a lot of length there either, as Freeland is the only one who has made it through the 6th inning.

Bullpen: Very good so far. Reyes is pitching like the lights out reliever he once was, Pierce Johnson has been adequate in the closers role, and Dinelson Lamet looks like he could (finally) break out. My lefties (Gomber & Suter) are the only guys who have struggled so far, which is a big cause for concern, especially if I can't get a bit more length out of the rotation. Not a huge issue right now (2 days off in an 8 day span), but when we hit the grind everyone will need to be rolling.

Offence/Defence: It's starting to come around. Kris Bryant's big night is hopefully the start of something special. Ezequiel Tovar's rookie season has had a decent little start, picking up a couple of clutch hits and playing adequate defence (2 errors so far though...). CJ Cron has a couple of bombs, and hasn't been bad. All in all it's going better than I had expected after that 15 inning scoreless drought that I started the season with.
