Re: MLB The Show 22 Franchise Discussion Thread

The Nationals move to 39-68 after taking two of three from the NL Central leading Cardinals (66-41). It could be said that the Cardinals played better ball in two of the three games, but the Nats hung with them in game 1 and pulled off a surprising walk off win in the 9th after Jordan Hicks threw two wild pitches to score pinch runner CJ Abrams. Game two started off well for the Nationals, who jumped on Jack Flaherty for four runs before nearly giving them back in the ninth. Game three was all Cards, having gone up 2-0 early before the Nationals could tie it on a Nelson Cruz two run single. But the Cards took off after that, cruising to a 7-3 win. The Nationals will stay home for a three game series against the Mets (57-49) who are desperately trying to stay in the Wild Card race. It looks like the Nationals will miss out on both deGrom and Scherzer, so a series can be stolen here.

        Trade Deadline 2022

I have also passed the trade deadline in this 2022 season, and it was rather underwhelming. Here are ALL the transactions...

The Marlins traded C Jacob Stallings to the Twins for 3B Austin Martin

The Cubs traded 3B Patrick Wisdom to the Twins for SP Louie Varland, SS Jermaine Palacios and RP Jovani Moran

The Rangers traded C Mitch Garver to the Angels for SP Sam Bachman

The Guardians traded Amed Rosario to the Phillies for SP Mick Abel, CF Simon Muzziotti, and LF Chris Sharpe

The Rangers traded CP Joe Barlow to the Dodgers for SP Hyun-il Choi, RP Alex Vesia, and 3B Kody Hoese

That's the entire trade deadline this year...I was expecting more but hopeful this will lead to a wild offseason.

Yankess Active at The Trade Deadline

          Giants----->Jameson Taillon
          Yankees---> Tyler Rogers, Zack Littell
Giants get a pitcher who slots in as the #3 instantly to help the playoff push as San Francisco sit 3 games back in the wildcard but still keep financial flexibility with Taillon a half season rental. Funny enough keeping space to go after Aaron Judge in the offseason. The Yankees get help at reliever to hopefully fix the putrid bullpen.

Yankees---->Frankie Montas, Austin Allen, Ramon Laureano
Athletics----> Luis Medina, Ken Waldichuk, Cooper Bowman, Yoendrys Gomez, J.P Sears, Jonathan Loaisiga
A's continue the teardown of the team and are all about quantity and 6 players come back their way, including 5 pitchers all with at least 5 years of control. Oakland got several above average, MLB ready prospects, which is what they wanted in order to keep the fan base from being nay angrier than they already are. Meanwhile The Bronx Bombers were aggressive and looked to shore up the problem areas all in one swift move. Austin Allen has potential but hasn't been given many games. But the ones he has playe din he's been impressive with the bat. Ramon Laureano comes in to help defensively, with a cannon arm and range to cover any position in the outfield and also is no slouch with the lumber. The Yankees then brought Frankie Montas in to cover the loss of Jameson Taillon.

No-hit the Mets one day, lose to them 9-0 the next. Yup, that's baseball.

We finished April 2023 at 13-9, tied with the Mets for second in the East. The Nationals have a two-game lead on us. The Phillies are a game behind us.

Starting pitching has been great. Ian Anderson is a Cy Young candidate. Bullpen has been a bit shaky.

Austin Riley has been sensational, batting over .300 and leading us in homers (8) and RBIs (16). Michael Harris is a candidate for ROY. Freddie Freeman enters May hitting below .200. We still need Ozzie Albies to get going too.

That is what I love about this game, my previous franchise with the Reds in a two game series with the Guardians I lost the first game 16-0 and won the second one 19-3.

Here is the wrap up to my 2022 season that I played using today's rules (Universal DH and Runner rule for extra innings).

Cardinals 2022 season ends in the NL Wild Card round to the Braves

Our 2022 season can be summed up with one word...injuries. The Cardinals still made the postseason despite a rash of injuries to some of the biggest names on the roster that really wrecked havoc on lineup/rotation construction as well as success.

                  A few of the injuries:

Jack Flaherty - Shoulder - Missed late April until after all-star break.
Albert Pujols - knee - missed rest of season after July injury
Paul Goldschmidt - elbow - out all of August and majority of September
Yadier Molina - hand - missed September and playoffs
Giovanny Gallegos - shoulder - missed rest of season after August injury
Paul DeJong- ankle - missed 3 months
Tyler O'Neill - shoulder - missed end of season
Harrison Bader - wrist - missed June thru August

And this was the list of injuries suffered that were 60 day or more. Very frustrating season.

But despite that the Cardinals got into the postseason but were just overmatched by the Braves in the wildcard round.

Below is the wrap up of the season that saw the Mariners will the 2022 World Series Championship.

                    Cardinals 2022/2023 Offseason Outlook

The Cardinals have a lot to work on this winter despite reaching the playoffs with all the injuries suffered. Primary need is pitching, both starting and bullpen. And they need both arms that are ready to make the 26 man roster out of Spring as well as build depth. Jack Flaherty is the only returning starter that you feel comfortable with in the rotation. Dakota Hudson did well in his time. Miles Mikolas and Steven Matz are both on the trade block as neither did anything to instill confidence in the organization that they can successfully take the ball every 5th day and pitch the team to a win.

The bullpen was weak all thru the organization. They have arms that they feel good about (Hicks, Reyes, Gallegos and Cabrera), but they need depth. Injuries exposed the lack of major league depth in the organization, something the Cardinals will most definitely address this offseason.

Catcher is another need. While Yadier Molina didn't retire, his injuries last year really hampered his production and the idea that the 40 year old could be the everyday backstop isn't a popular one. Targets are on the market and they do have Andrew Knizner and Ivan Herrera who could do the job, but if this club really wants to get deep in October, I think they are going to need a higher caliber player than those two.

With the new univeral DH, the Cardinals could look to address that area and they have ideas. Albert Pujols falls in the same line as Molina, where he's fan and organizational favorite but injuries hurt him. Pujols has 690 homeruns in his career and its likely he will try to latch on to a team this winter to get to 700. Will the Cards bring him back as the primary DH this year? Hard to say to no, but hard to imagine that Pujols has the capability at age 43.

Outside of this the Cardinals will look to add depth throughout. The outfield is likely set and the infield is more than likely set, although some of the names on the market will have the Cards kick the tires on middle infielders, primarily shortstop.

Expect an active winter between signings and the Cardinals being active in the trade market. They couldn't be active at the deadline last year due to the sheer amount of injuries. But now with a new winter upon us, the Cardinals will look to wheel and deal their way back to the postseason, and back atop the NL Central Division.

Pujols didn't retire? I feel like players used to retire around 40/41 unless they were under contract. Granted this was way back on '15, the only time I finished all 162 in a franchise. I hope you can get Pujols to sign for a year and chase 700. Injuries have plagued my Nats franchise all season, I wish there was an easy to way to see just how many transactions/lineup/rotation changes I've made without doing it all myself (I'm lazy). Where's ESPN when I need them lol. Hoping you can make another playoff run next season, loving your updates!

It’s odd how one season you can go with very few major injuries and the next one will be so bad you think you need to setup a medical tent at the stadium. I played with the Reds last franchise and had one major injury and that wasn’t one of my starters. The previous season with the Cardinals was a train wreck.

Injuries have plagued my Nats franchise all season, I wish there was an easy to way to see just how many transactions/lineup/rotation changes I've made without doing it all myself (I'm lazy). Where's ESPN when I need them lol. Hoping you can make another playoff run next season, loving your updates!
No he is still plugging along. I don't know about re-signing him. I am tempted, but we have other needs and while the universal DH gives him a spot, he does detract from giving guys a day off so I need to carry an additional positional player to help give guys days off over the course of a season. But its something I'm kicking around.

Cubs sign Aaron Judge to 10 year $290M deal

The Cubs have pulled off the first blockbuster signing of the offseason by landing prized free agent Aaron Judge. Judge and the Yankees couldn't come to an agreement and the idea of playing in the Friendly Confines was too much for Judge to pass up as he accepted the offer. At the signing Judge had offers from the Yankees and Angels. He also at one time had an offer from the Braves.

The Cubs struggled last year, but this is no doubt a homerun signing to try to get this club back into the postseason. And Judge may hit 70 homeruns this year with 81 games being played at Wrigley.

That's pretty cool. Judge was signed by Houston in my franchise.

                                Hello all,
My Franchise attention span of a squirrel is back for the (estimated) 10th different time of 2022!

Took quite a hiatus from the show for awhile, but I’ve been itching to get back into it.

Started a Franchise with the Pirates with the roster current as of free agency.

First off, we went out and signed a few arms to help us.
                                - Danny Duffy
                                -Nathan Eovaldi
                                -Ken Giles
And Adam Duvall for outfield help.

Half way through the year, we went and traded for Alex Verdugo. Cubs offered us Nick Madrigal for Adam Duvall and a young C potential pitcher.

                                Brief overview:
Ended up going 79-83. Finish second in the division to the Cardinals, after we had a division lead in late august; we ended up losing 8 in a row to give up the division lead and ultimately couldn’t make the ground back up. St. Louis won the division, went on to beat Atlanta and then took care of the Dodgers in the NLCS to advance to the WS. They fell to the Angels in 3 game. Mike trout was rediculous, hitting over .600 with 10 HRs in the postseason.

Bright spots for us as a team, Eovaldi went 15-10 with a 3.20 era. Ji-Man Choi hit over .320 with 20+ HRs. He’ll be either at 1B/DH for us everyday in 2023 without a doubt. Our Bullpen was very good. Only had 1 guy who had over a 4-era. Going to maybe add one more arm in free agency and bring pretty much everyone back.

                                OFF-SEASON
Not worrying about the minor details, we ended up taking off some major moves in the front office.

First thing, we resigned O’Neil Cruz for 10yrs $165M.

Brought back Eovaldi, Giles and most of the bullpen.

Ended up going out and signing Aaron Nola to a 3 year deal worth $90M.

With Madrigal going to play second base for us everyday, we have Rodolfo Castro that we’re looking to shop around, along with Jack Suwinski and Cal Mitchell. We have a huge hole in Left Field that we’re looking to shore up. I like Suwinski but the way we have the roster built, we may have a chance to be competitive this coming year. Waiting for the winter meetings to heat up and find a deal.

More details to come later when I get a chance to get back on, and hopefully introduce you the 2023 spring training roster!
