Re: MLB The Show 23 Technical Test Has Begun - Post Your Impressions Here

Is anyone else noticing how smooth the transition from ball coming out of the pitchers hand into the catchers mitt is?

This feels like it was completely reworked to remove any sort of stutter, and the result is incredible.

This and the bat sounds were extremely noticeable after one at bat - not sure if this is animation related or framerate… or maybe both.

Swing and misses seems improved. It was too easy to foul off pitches last year. The new fielding meter is a welcomed change. Still weary it will become easy to master at some point.

The screen is too cluttered now with the new pitch selection and pci analysis. Hopefully this will be cleaned up by release.

The bat sounds needs some work as other have suggested. Sometimes it sounds good, sometimes it awful.

Austin Riley is missing his mizuno equipment which is hopefully not a repeat of missing equipment at launch like ‘22.
First thing I did was hop in to practice and notice Contreras in generic catchers gear and wainwright in generic cleats.

Obviously there were some issues at launch with equipment last year, but equipment is never final in the tech test. They always take out some of the brands that are getting updates so I wouldn't make too much out of it

Have had fun messing around with things so far. I really have not seen anything that really jumps out at me as a super improvement. Though I do notice the difference in fielding. The bad OF player is so slow on the first step he makes me wish I had a 4th guy out there.

That being said I need to really hear more about what is coming. Based on the settings I use for throwing, pitching, etc a lot of the things we are being shown now are not any difference at all for me.

But still very hyped for the game and hope the franchise draft thing knocks my socks off

Not sure I love the bat sound. Almost sounds more like whiffle ball....but I feel like it always sounds different in the tech test for some reason

The new throwing meter will take some getting used to for sure. I just hope it isn't as easy to master as the old one
Still haven’t gotten to play. Have they changed the glove sound particularly at first base and on breaking balls to the catcher? Last year it sounded like someone hitting a bass drum and it annoyed me to no end.

No. Only Yankee Stadium, Citizen, Minutemaid, and Petco. And Griffith field.

I hope this is just a Tech Test thing but if you use Auto baserunning you don’t see where your runners are at during a play. The Baserunning diamond is just empty. Which is a waste if that is designed. So i don’t know if the runner is actually scoring or if the batter is going to 2nd for a double or what. When you pitch you see the dots with their speed rating.

Something tells me that is designed because I can see it when pitching. And they tried this back in MLB 20 in a patch before putting it back.

I saw that too. I sent a report on the blue circle under the fielders on auto field. Should do the same on this.

                      Disappointing but not surprising.
This is another big blow for me. A revamped uniform creator may have gotten me excited but nope. The current one is so barebones and the font options are abysmal. I think with them adding real uniforms to DD a couple years ago they stopped caring about the uniform creator.

I'll still wait to see if they did anything substantial with Stadium Creator. If there's no transfers from 22 to 23 that could mean there's a big difference so there's still some hope in that department. If not though that might be the final nail in the coffin and I'll wait to pick the game up until it's on a deep sale.

The fielding meter was easy to master almost immediately. I think I saw the timing indicator have a bit of different speeds, but overall it was a lot slower, which would effect whether you decide to prethrow or not (since trying a prethrow and not finishing it before scooping the ball can cause fielding errors) be a little more decisive, but throwing errors will be a rare occurrence as it always has been since the meter itself is far too easy.

I'm surprised they never adopted 2Ks throwing meter that would adjust the green zone based on ratings and make the green zone different based on whether you plant your feet or not to throw. Also, 2K did have a slider that made the meter easier or harder which The Show doesn't have.

I've made this complaint before and people tell me to just do button throwing and leave it to ratings, but when playing online, I'm not going to put myself at a disadvantage. The meter needs more variables that match the player's ratings, and like or hate 2K, they did it right.

I also wish they would take 2Ks mechanic for bunting. In 2K, bunting was controlled by the analog stick for up and down placement, and bunting direction was decided by the left and right triggers, giving total user control. It's still completely automatic in The Show.

I'd like to see an implementation that, if you keep pressing the bunt button to go in and out of bunt stance, it affects your ability to make contact each time you do it. I only wish this because it looks stupid when people do it, and would be a deterrent to doing it.

It seem like pitches more fluid. They throwing out there. Love the fact the mangers play strategy ball. Score was tied in 9th man on first and third no out they did squeeze bat and was successful. One game the CPU pitcher was throwing a gem and Jose Altuve hit a shot deep right in minute made stadium and that shook up the CPU pitcher and he struggle from that moment. Just allowed one more run and he was 20-20 under 100 pitches the skipper took him out.
