Re: MLB the Show 25 The Mets

I think we all need to understand what happened last year with the run to the NLCS hurt us in some ways. Sterns put together a roster of projects last year and it just happened to ALL work out. Now he thinks he can do that every year with the likes of Holmes, Montas, etc. Soto was a great get but I believe was Cohen getting it done more than Sterns.

The Mets right now if we are being realistic are a third place team in the division. We have zero Soto protection, we need 2 good bullpen arms not projects. A Tanner Scott would be nice and we truly have no ace. Plus we need a DH from the left hand side. Like Winker would be nice, Not so much with Verdugo

Sterns is not likely to make a trade' He has already stated the rotation is likely done. He likes to hug prospects which I do not agree with at all. He also does not like long term deals on pitching which I also do not like. This is not Milwaukee

I feel like this game he is playing with Alonso is getting out of hand. I get it, He wants Alonso for one year only so he can then go after either Vlad Jr or Murakami. I get it I want one of those guys also. But as Jim D said yesterday. Cohen needs to step in and tell Sterns get this Alonso deal done. I mean Alonso is practically begging to come back at this point

Alonso doesn’t have a market otherwise he’d be signed already. Stearns is playing this wisely and Cohen trusts him. No reason to bid against themselves when Boras completely misread the market for a declining and poor defensive 1B who just turned 30. His power numbers are trending down so the Mets don’t want to get stuck with someone who could be the next Chris Davis.

Also he built a contender in Milwaukee by doing this. Just buying everyone up doesn’t guarantee winning, so I’d trust the guy that put together a solid team in a smaller market. Just because they have money doesn’t mean they should spend it on bad contracts. It’s better to do what the Dodgers did and only spend on the guys they really want (Betts, Freeman), fill out the farm, and then trade when you get a chance for a top guy to make a run.

They will make more signings but they aren’t as bad as you’re making them out to be.

To me it all depends if they do NOT get him. Do they have a backup plan? Cause if Soto protection is Baty or McNeil or something on the roster now that is a huge mistake

Vientos broke out last year and they still have Nimmo, who despite having a down year last year has some power. They can look at Bregman or Santander as well. They have options while Alonso doesn’t have many. I’d like him to be back on a short term deal, but I don’t see the point in worrying about him. I’d like to see them sign some bench bats and bring Winker and Iglesias back while adding another bullpen arm. Then sign Pete once Boras admits the Mets are the only one that are going to pay him more than anyone else.

My backup plan for the Mets in MLBTS25 if we don't have Alonso, is to start transitioning Soto to first base. Heck, I'm doing it even if Alonso is a Met in MLBTS25. They will split time at first and DH. Both gonna get plenty of rest, but plenty of AB's.

Winker is coming back on a 1 year deal. Solid bat off the bench.

Word on the street is that we are likely out on Alonso.

We will still need a extra bat for the new game plus more bullpen help.

There has been talk of the Mets supposedly trying to get Vladdy Jr in a trade.

I think Stearns has something big planned if he is willing to let Pete walk. Because essentially he is not going to bid against himself with Pete's contract.

I hope Stearns does have something in mind because next year's game roster definitely has some holes in it.

I don’t believe anything about Pete until it’s official. Every day there’s a different story about him lol.

Ok now I do see the Mets are acting like he’s a goner moving on and not waiting on him to fill out the roster.

Realistically I think Pete signs with the Mets at the last minute. Probably during spring training. Hopefully sooner.

Re: MLB the Show 25 The Mets

According to Joel Sherman this evening the Mets made a final ditch offer to Alonso at 3 years 68 million with some opt outs (Which tells me they really did not want him back) He rejected it and they moved on.

The Mets plan now is to move Veintos to 1st, Let Baty, Mauricio and Acuna battle it out for 3B.

Sherman also stated the Mets will now pivot to the RP market and try and pickup two with one of them being at the top of the Market (Scott)

He also stated and confirmed by Heyman the Mets will NOT be making a trade for Vlad and will try and get him in the off-season next year with cash. He stated they hope Soto production will make up for the loss of Alonso

Reports are Jays are making a strong push for Alonso and would move Vlad to 3B his original position.

Fellow Met fans Pete is gone its time we all realize that and hope we do get Vlad next year

Darryl Strawberry is on record stating he never should have left the Mets.

I have a feeling that Pete is going to find that out the hard way

According to what I have been reading the reason Pete is mad at the Mets is because they offered him less money on his 7 yr extension offer than what they gave Nimmo on his extension. That is why he rejected the offer back in 2023 with the full plan on becoming a free agent. His wife also reportedly encouraged him to dump his agent and that is why he got Boras.

That was the story on one report that I read several days ago.

So Pete is in this mess because he was pocket watching. SMH.

Now he isn't going to get anywhere near they were offering him.

Its very possible but I just think the lineup needs Protection for Soto and does not have it. That worries me, and I am not a huge Pete fan
