I haven't tried this theory yet but I might. I really don't know. I have had a lot of fun on All-Star and have played at least 30 games. I think there might be a general comeback logic built in for both sides (not just the cpu) on default but I can't say for sure.

There are times when I do think its a bit scripted. The number of big innings the cpu seems to have where they string a bunch of hits together seems abnormally high. Its certainly different from '07 and '08. Is this scripted? Is it comeback logic switched at default? Is it a perfect simulation of baseball? I'm just not that sure. But I do know that most of my season games against the cpu have been close and I don't think I've ever pounded the cpu with this at default. They have beat me good a few times so I'm not sure what to think.

I notice people saying this is more pronounced on the lower levels. Will I see a big difference on All-Star? I haven't read through this whole thread but I would be interested if there was a poll on OS about it. I'll be curious to see how this plays out over more time.

And better yet, you will win games by a large amount. It's something I never did before opening this thread. The biggest victory I ever had was 7-3. That was in like 40 games.

Since making the change, I've eclipsed that more than once, and been spanked by a lor more than that.

i completly agree..
its not just about the final box score but most importantly about how the game plays...
im 15 game into my season with CB ON and i couldnt be happier with the stats im getting...finnaly my Ace pitches like an Ace, my 4 and 5 guys still suck, my closer does what he is paid for , simple and most obvious things that before this option i couldnt achive...

Interesting that you note that. I'm actually having more success with my 4 and 5 guys right now than my top pitchers (with comeback OFF) so I'm sort of seeing the same thing you were.

I will definitely try out this theory for the next bunch of games I play.

I'm considering giving this a try, I play on veteran and have tested several in exhibition mode and there is always an inning where the computer comes back late in the game. Sometimes there comeback consists of 3 inning comebacks. I have a really hard time holding leads late in games. The last game I had I was up 7-2, 7-5 late in the game and I ended up losing 8-7.

I'm wondering if this is just part of the ups and downs of a season or if it's a AI Comeback mechanism. If it's a mechanism I want to fix it before I get to deep in my franchise mode.

Would you recommend I give it a try on veteran or is this more of an All Star and up problem?

Yep, and that's all that truly matters. This game is too good to argue back and forth about who is right and who is wrong with a simple option. If people are having fun with it set to OFF then all well and good. If people are having fun with it ON, then all well and good.

I just played with the Braves. Braves against Rockies. Flip one page back for my game review. Although it doesn't prove anything it's nice to see. It was a great game.

I have no idea how it affects other levels of play. I do know that if you pitch good before and you pitch just as good with it ON you will notice a difference in the CPU hitters. They behave more human-like chasing balls out of the zone and look at more strikes overall. Here's my pitching line for that Braves vs Rockies game:

Vazquez: 7.1ip, 8h, 1r, 1er, 3bb, 4k 1.23era
Soriano: 1.2 0h, 0r, 0er, 0bb, 3k

Soriano came in with 1 out in the 8th and a man on 2nd. He got 5 outs in a row, 3 of them by way of the K.

I will say this, for first time in my franchise, with comeback AI ON, Broxton did not allow a run when in for a save. I guess take it for what its worth.

I haven't followed the whole thread. Are you saying that you are playing with Comeback OFF, or was this game played using Dave's theory of playing with it ON?

I played with it on to test the theory. It was only one game, but who knows

Thanks, what I did was go back and replay my last game, I had it saved from the 7th inning and didn't overwrite it for some reason so I went and played it again with the option turned on.

Starting with a 7-5 lead in the 7th I had Boone Logan come in and give up a homer on the 1st pitch to Ryan Howad. Now all of a sudden it's 7-6 and I'm thinking huh oh this isn't going to work. 1st pitch after I turned the option on he goes yard on me. I wanted to test it out though so I stuck with it. Logan ends up getting out of the rest of the inning without much of a problem and I go to the 8th with a one run lead. After a homer by my pinch hitter I go to the 8th with a 2 run lead. Soriano gives up a hit to lead off the inning and then gets out of it.

My closer comes in to the 9th and holds the lead after giving up a one out single to Dobbs. He then gets Howard to pop the ball up and gets Utley to pop up to the catcher.

There may be something to this or it may not, I think I'm going to try it with the option turned on for awhile. It seems to be working for some of you.

Comeback option on - comeback logic is turned on for both human and cpu when they are trailing. They are given attribute boosts.

Whether you agree with this or not, is up to the individual gamer, but I don't know what good its going to do for SCEA to keep repeating what they've already said. People are going to believe what they believe they are seeing.

Wow I have to laugh after playing my first game with comeback on. I say laugh because the difference was so evident it actually is quite funny. I was beating the Indians 5-2 thinking wow wheres that inning. Which is always either the inning right after I take the lead or at least coming soon. Well they did score a run in the 8th and the 9th but the difference was not that I closed it out and won 5-4 because Ive done that before in quite a few of the first 100 games Ive played. The difference was that not every hitter had the pop and plate coverage of Vlad Guerrero. I'm so excited and thanks again Dave, I just wish I wouldnt have wasted so much time trying to convince myself everything was alright before.

My only question is will the CPU occasionally comeback with it on? I'm pretty sure they will as they started to in this game and don't seem to lose their normal attributes but just wanted to know what you guys that have played a few games with it on are seeing.

the comeback handicap is for both teams involved if I ain't mistaken. You can turn it on for player 1 and/or player 2. I don't believe there is a single option to turn it on for the computer. I'd have to be in front of the game to double check, but thats how I remember reading it.

actually, ya, there is one for cpu and one for player 2. So I guess, when you play against another human, there is a comback mode when "on". However, against a CPU, I dont see anything about humans getting a bonus when "on".

Anyone know for sure?

Actually there's a separate option for the CPU (which applies to 1-player games) and one for 2P (which applies to multiplayer games). Based on the descriptions there is no effect on the user in a 1-player vs. CPU game.

i blew a 2-0 lead to the halos in the bottom of the 8th with b.ziegler to end 6-2!!
ive also blew a 3-0 lead to the m`s in the top of the 7th to 5-3

but like u said above, what it all felt was natural, i was pitching bad and such... it didnt seem taht sundunly k.johjima turned into vlad guerrero...
so its definatly possible...
