on another note, can someone explain to me if attributes and ratings play a big part in this game, how can I take Varitek and put him in CF and have him play like Ellsbury and also take Pedroia, put him in to pitch and have him pitch 5 scoreless innings of 2 hit, no walk ball?
so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Why not PM Brian and ask him?

He might put your concerns to bed, just like he has for me with this thread...Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

That is fine that you feel this way. It is truly fine. You have every right to be in this thread of course. But, just why you are in this thread honestly puzzles me. I am not trying to prove/disprove anybody's theories. I am just stating the fact that this can not be proved/disproved for either argument in any way shape or form. It simply can not. It's all a matter of feel/opinion.I know for a fact that with it ON, it works just as designed. I tested by playing one of the better teams with their ace, going against the bad teams with their #5 guy, just to build a lead. They came back EVERY time, just as designed. I played about 8 games this way, on All-Star).

With it OFF, I've seen all kinds of games.

As I've said a million times, I don't think the problem is any sort of comeback AI. The "problem" is that the CPU is very very hard this year. All these super innings people are complaining about happen whether the CPU is trailing, tied, or already ahead. I did notice some of these complaints, I've been punished by the CPU and received my share of beatings.

If I had to complain about that, I think it's more tied into the confidence system. Seems that the pitchers (particularly the User's) unravel too quickly, while the CPU's pitchers tend to get the benefit and get out of jams easier.

I seem to give up ALL my runs in bunches...seems like it's always that one inning that gets me. The CPU doesn't really peck away much. It's all or nothing most of the time.

Most of my boxscores for the CPU look something like 000430003 or maybe a 000600000. Know what I'm saying?

But i haven't jumped on any conspiracy theory tirade. I do feel like I get better and better with my pitching. I've been able to hold the CPU to 2-5 runs consistently lately. And by lately I mean I haven't played in a week though, because my PS3 is currently out of commission

If this option was something visual like the fielding marker or strike zone turning on/off it would be much easier to come to a conclusion that everybody can agree on. This is under the hood with many variables played in. This is by no means cut and dry. Cut and dry is the fielding marker not turning on when it's set to on. Or a HR Rob indicator not going ON when set to ON. Those are cut and dry examples of options that could be broken. This is certainly not and nobody, myself included, can not come up with a factual response and I will admit that I was wrong in doing so in this thread. It simply can not be proven. The only thing this thread is good for, is helping some people enjoy the game more. Yes there has been several people who have PM'd me and thanked me for saving the game for them. That's what this thread is for.

The only thing I will argue is that it simply can not be etched in stone that this comeback option IS or ISN'T indeed reversed/broken.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

I wish I had your luck man. I'm gonna give it another try tonight and see what happens. All-Star default (confidence & hitting aids off).Stewaat, i believe you completely, you have been on here for years and i respect your views, you have no need to lie, that said, you point out Zoomer, whenever i bring him in, without fail, he totally shuts the other side down, strikeouts galore (as you would expect with a 100mph heater), he must have an ERA below 1 at the moment and almost double the number of strikeouts to innings thrown.

As i say, i know you are not lying, but i just wanted to show that the pendulum really can swing the other way.

Well said!Uh-oh...come-on guys, no reason for calling people crazy or liars. I am definitely experiencing these problems and I'm pretty sure I'm not crazy (then again I probably wouldn't know it if I were). If others say they are not seeing it, I don't think they are lying. It could simply be something in the settings that some people are using and others aren't that triggers the nonsense. As far as I'm concerned, I feel I have tried to figure it out to the point of exhaustion. I feel (just a personal opinion here) absolutely 100% sure that something screwy is going on with this year's AI at times, and frankly don't give a rat's behind if others disagree with me. I played last year's version for 4 hours yesterday and it was a completely different experience (in a great way), so it looks like for me the solution is to try and update '08's rosters as much as possible. I'm not happy about it, and I will still give '09 a spin once in a while, but I just want to enjoy playing again and that just simply isn't happening very often with this year's game. I wish that wasn't the case, but it just simply IS for me.Last edited by Guest; 04-03-2009, 10:41 AM.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Great post, I was playing a game the other day using Psycho's sliders with the game tied 3-3 in the top of the 9th I used a pinch hitter with two men aboard. Guess what it was the right call Gomes hit a 3 run HR making the score 6-3 me. The CPU made a bad decision and tried to leave the pitcher in allowing me to score two more runs in the inning. Bottom of the 9th not a save situation I bring in Cordero for a 1,2,3 inning. As I've said a million times, I don't think the problem is any sort of comeback AI. Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

I have no idea what their "tests" are. All I know is what I see/feel and nothing is going to change my opinion on that. I played over 100 games on Legend with it OFF and when I switched it to ON I just wanted to see if it played any different. For me, what I saw, absolutley it did. I enjoy the game much more with it set to ON. I can't say that it's reversed or broken for a fact. I can say that I enjoy the game more though and that I see the CPU chasing much more pitches out of the zone and just behaving more humanlike. This is not my fact. This is my opinion.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Again this is not cut and dry. I played with it OFF for a 100 games and I didn't notice anything too crazy to be honest. I just thought that Legend was really that tough like it was all hyped up to be. I saw many people complaining about comeback and being open minded I said maybe these people are seeing something. I did notice that all of my games were very close in nature. I felt like every game I played was so exciting. The game always was close and a lot of the time I came back agains tthe CPU. In fact I think I noticed myself coming back more so then the CPU. I said what the hell, I mind as well give it a shot to play with it ON to see if it plays even HARDER. I thought that it would be IMPOSSIBLE to beat the CPU with it set to ON because it SHOULD be tougher. Complete opposite effect for me. I hadn't won a game by more then 4 runs in my previous 100 games and the first game I won by 8 (12-4). I never threw a complete game. Well that first game I did. 2nd game I win 9-2. You can chalk this up to coincidence if you like and you have every right to. However, I know what I saw in the game and what I felt, and how it was EASIER and not HARDER to maintain a lead against the CPU.

Nobody here is right or wrong, and it's just upsetting when people shoot down your thoughts by basically saying you are wrong. I am not doing that but I feel like a lot of people here are. All I can say is if you enjoy the game with it OFF then go ahead and enjoy it with it OFF. I am enjoying it with it ON. Seems like the one thing we have in common is we enjoy the game! LOL.Comment

Re: so I played my first game with CPU comeback set to ON

Personally I don't think it's hard AI, from my experience.

I use classic pitching and I love the fact pitches are not pinpoint.

If I'm using somebody with decent control and a pitch gets away from them over the heart and it's pounded...fine with me! Mistakes get hit hard!

If I'm using a good bullpen guy with a dominant pitch and he paints the corner to some scrub and he laces it for a double the other way...that's when I get irritated. It's not like the scrub misses the mistake either, so where's the reward for throwing a great pitch?

Also when you have a nasty slider and it's just off the corner on 0-2 or 1-2 and they don't bite when they are a crappy hitter...hmmm...makes you wonder.

The problem I see is the complete change from innings 1-8 to 9.

That's just been my experience. I love how attributes matter, I love how pitchers don't paint the corners every pitch, I love 95% of this game!

Just the damn comebacks kill me!Comment

You as well. I honestly don't understand why you don't see where I am coming from. I am not talking about the option being reversed or not. I am talking about factual evidence and how both sides lack it. But anyways, take care.Comment

You even think the developers of the game, the fella who wrote the majority of the AI, Brian, doesnt know what hes talking about when he tells you its not broken/reversed. Thats too much for me

And you take care as well, seriously, its been a good debate with no insults, what OS should be about.Comment

I believe half of what I see and nothing that I hear. I am open minded my friend. I am very well aware of politics and business. Not calling Brian a liar, never did. Just saying that it's not factual evidence. You even think the developers of the game, the fella who wrote the majority of the AI, Brian, doesnt know what hes talking about when he tells you its not broken/reversed. Thats too much for me

Other options have been broken in the past, who's to say officially that this is or isn't broken. In my eyes, NOBODY.

And do me a favor and don't put words in my mouth. I never ever came close to saying that Brian doesn't know what he's talking about. I said it's a matter of opinion. Take your time and read my posts instead of skimming through them. It's Brian's opinion vs mine as far as I am concerned. Must I say it again. There is no factual evidence from either side of this argument.

Play with it ON or play with it OFF and be happy because that's our only option.Comment
