I'm sure this pretty much had been answered...

I was wondering if the lineup glitches had been fixed? For example: Todd Helton batting leadoff, Grady Sizemore batting fourth. Some All-Star players being platoon players. Up until this year's verison, the glitch appeared. Back then, we never had this problem.

Well, the answer is yes and no. With the ability to control all 30 teams, you can prevent this from happening, but in the grand scheme of things, the fact that it is happening is good.

The problem is that as human beings, we tie things to player's names. We see the name "Todd Helton" and we immediately think of his place in the lineups that we've seen in real-life before and that's it. Our brains completely disregard ratings and stats, and other items which computers use to evaluate a player.

To the CPU, Todd Helton is just player x36549789 and the CPU has to be programmed to set up a lineup based upon the player statistics and attributes only. NOT according to some non-quantifiable characteristic.

If the SCEA guys were to program the lineups to be set in a certain manner, then as the years progress or players get hurt, the CPU would not have the ability to alter the lineups properly, and you'd suddenly see a power slugging lead-off hitter because the guy he replaced was a quick, high OBP guy.

I am actually quite happy with how SCEA has this set-up where the CPU will set its lineups based upon the player stats and attributes. As you go further and further along in a career, the names of the players become 100% meaningless because all the players are made-up. So you no longer have the "But so-and-so always bats 3rd" recollections in your head.

SCEA can either opt to make the lineups accurate for the first couple of seasons for real-roster setups, or they can opt to make it accurate for the the last dozen seasons or so and for fantasy rosters of made-up players while giving an option to the player for working around some "line-up" differences.

So it sounds like Helton is still going to be batting lead off, and Jerry Hairston will be batting cleanup.

You can control all 30 teams..set the lineups how ever you want and then when it gets later in the franchise dont set it and the computer will set them up based on the programming..think that should help you no?

I would have to dig back through this thread, but I believe that Knight had indicated that there are options which can be set which will either allow the CPU to redefine their lineups, or force them to keep what you set. (Just don't have the time to dig through everything). The lineup situation isn't exactly the same as it was last year, but it hasn't been changed to the point where it's human yet.

I mean, if it was the 10th year of your franchise and a create a player had the same attributes as Todd Helton, but Joey Shababoodoo was batting leadoff, would it bother you as much?

Bingo! That's the workaround we now have this year.

I only play season mode. And I have controlled all 30 teams in the past, and I have still had to edit CPU lineups for near every game. I just feel like I am cheating when I do that!

The game doesnt care if you "cheat". Hell It makes it that much more realistic..you can feel like a cheater in baseball just like IRL..lol This game is so REAL.

Seriously its not cheating and if youre givin a work around..and a very good one..dont make another excuse on why it doesnt fit your life perfectly. Its a good solid solution. You dont have to control anything but setting that lineup or changing it as you see fit until everyone retires...just try it and if it feels dirty sell it.

I think you'll like this option after you get going

In last year's game, the control of the CPU teams didn't "stick" like it does this year. In this year's iteration, if you force control of the CPU team with regards to the lineups, it will stick.

Does anyone know if the MLB Home Run Derby will be part of RTTS this year? As in... if your RTTS player is near the top of his league in HR's, he'll get to participate in the HR Derby prior to the All-Star Game?

(And sorry if this has been asked/answered before... I tried searching the thread but couldn't find anything.)

                          Thanks!

HRD will be in RTTS but I don't recall how they select who gets to be in it

I hope there's a PS3 trophy for winning the derby with your RTTS player... that'd be a cool one.
