I think it goes without saying but more hit variety would be a breath of fresh air.

Yep...bingo. Thak knight. Game is awesome as can be, I just wince when I see the models and the animations that happen with them. I understand that if they change the models, they have to in turn redo ALL of the animations to match the new models. I know thats a ton of work but that could actually be very helpful in throwing out all the old "sig" motions for batting/pitching. Some of those I swear are from the year SCEA had chavez on the cover! LOL Dudes like jeter, vlad, and others need some work anyhow. Please...new models now!"Im all jacked up on mountain dew!"

Its better than a "PCI" system where the batter doesn't have to come close to where the pitch is located...Only to see it smacked to the opposite field and out of the park. Either scrap the ratings portion that makes it hilariously unrealistic or give me PYS's bat oval that actually dictates how the ball is hit.Comment

How do the ratings make it unrealistic?
The PCI, the longer I play this game, sort of reminds me more of a "batter's eye," rather than a true cursor for bat placement.
In a way, like classic pitching is done by placing the ball marker in a general location, the PCI too seems like a basic idea of the batter's location guess; where (like classic pitching) the ratings then take over...to a degree.
The more I play, the more I love the the PCI idea.
Now, if you're refering to the CPU hitters, than your issue can't be with the hitting mechanic itself. It has to be with the result of the contact...I'd assume being a result you feel to be unrealistic (i.e. an opposite field homerun on a relatively inside pitch, or a weak hitter taking you over the fence for 440 ft).
This is an entirely different issue in itself.
Slider tweaks can address what you're seeing, to a certain extent.
My opinion is that the power rating should play a slightly lesser role in determining batting average and CPU homeruns from 8 and 9 guys should get toned down a little.Comment

Ditto, there needs to be hits to the gaps for extra bases. I rarely if ever hit or give up shots in the air to the alleys even with fielder speed at 0. I agree with this. Or have hitting more like the MVP series. If they want to keep it buttons, go wiht the hitting from MVP 05. If they want to switch it up and decide to go analog, the analog hitting mechanic from the NCAA Baseball Series made by the Mvp guys is still the best analog hitting I've seen.
And as heroesandvillians said above, the PCI system is very well done, and just like commented, "a batters eye". That is what it essentially is, that is why it is difference sizes in different counts facing different pitchers and different depending on the hitter.
They are always tweaking their current systems every year, even if they add new ones. Thus I have confidence that system will be perfected even more for 11'. Regardless if analog is added or not like some are guessing.Ⓥ Boston Red Sox | Miami DolphinsComment

I'm not talking about balls that hit the outfield grass and roll through to the wall...I want to see balls hit in the air over the head of outfielders or into the gap!
The double/triples variety needs work. Seems that if I need a double, it will always be a grounder down the line or a hooking liner down the line. Give me some gap base hits that go to the wall or deep flys that OFs can't reach. It seems as if the OF speed is fine but the trajectory of the ball on those makes it hang up in the air to long, allowing the fielder time to make the play. Idk, maybe it's just me.
Also, I love homeruns. The one gripe I have (and I think everyone has) is that there are too many close calls towards the foul poles.Comment

I am holding my breath for new player models and hitting interface. That to me is whats holding this game back from nirvana for me. I hate the t rex arms and square box shoulders and the square animation when a two handed swing is shown. Just my 2 cents. Its the only thing that keeps me playing 2k is the models and the texture of the game.
On the other hand, there are things big enough in MLB 2K10 that lessen the fun I have while playing it, which is why it's erased from my hard drive.Comment

You really never see gappers? I'd say the doubles I hit are about 50/50, and I'm talking down the line vs gappers.
