Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
Ugh just played a game Hall of Fame on everything after getting pretty decent at hitting in the demo...
And Pirates at Padres (me) I picked them to start Ross Ohlendorf so I can hopefully manage some runs.
He was a beast of course.
I got 2 hits. 2, and both in the 1st inning.
Struck out 12 times.
Ohlendorf went all 9 innings and threw 115 pitches. 80 for strikes
I only swung at the 1st pitch ONCE.
He only threw 2 first pitch balls.

First inning Liriano is getting smacked around and the mgr. comes out for a visit! Nice touch. I was wrong earlier I guess when the CPU is winning by plenty and getting smacked around, the mgr. won't visit the mound. Anyways I luv!NFL - Dallas Cowboys, MLB - NY Yankees
NBA - Knicks, NHL - NY Rangers,
NCAABB - St. Johns Redmen (Redstorm)Comment

This is why his strike percentage was so high, most likely (there ARE other factors, ofcourse).
The CPU memorized your patterns, both hitting and pitching. If you always take the first strike, the CPU knows enough to capitalize on it.
I'd recommend that you mix up your approach a little.Comment

Walk off homer with Tyler Colvin to complete a come back from a 7 run deficit in the 10th inning against the Cards in my first game. Does it get any better than that?Comment

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
I don't know what more can be said that already has not been said.
Played 2 warm up games. Yankees vs Tigers in Yankee stadium in the rain then Yankees at Red Sox.
The game is a love letter to hardcore baseball fans. Visually stunning but more importantly the game play is smooth like melted butter. Still using classic pitching (broadcast view) and zone hitting (old habits die hard). Using broadcast view for fielding and catcher 4 for hitting. Playing on All-Star default. I saw a routine double play ball thrown away because of the wet ball no doubt.
Won my game vs the Tigers 4-1 as CC dominated and Mariano closed it out. Lost to the Red Sox 3-2 in a nail biter.
Oh yeah....this game will get hundreds of hours of play time for a while.
I will be playing a Yankees Franchise as well as a RTTS being a starting pitcher. In my RTTS though I will be using analog pitching....I am sure I will convert over time in my franchise as well. Analog hitting I will have to practice big time as I still love zone hitting and am good at it.
SCEA you have done it again. Magnificent job.Last edited by Armor and Sword; 03-08-2011, 07:30 PM.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread
I know it's been said before and I know it's redundant, but this game just feels like baseball. The nuances the atmosphere. It just oozes major league baseball. I have said this before in the past, and I'll say it again. This game is in my opinion the finest sports game ever made. I know others will refute it, but that's simply my opinion.
Loving the analog controls. I have the pitching down pretty well. But my timing is off on the hitting, may need to lower pitch speed just a touch, but I really, really enjoy the analog controls.
The camera work is again first rate, and I didn't realize how much adding the different broadcast cams for each stadium were going to add. Really a neat feature imo.Comment
