Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

I feel the CPU throws more balls than last year but not enough for my taste. Plus, many of the potential balls are so close to looking like strikes that I end up making them strikes by swinging at them.

Here's what I did and I'm hoping you guys will test this out too:

Reduce the CPU Pitching Sliders - consistency, strike frequency, and I think one other - to zero (all the way to the left)

Select a team for you to use and select a team to oppose

Play 2 games (or a good portion of) against the same team but using that teams number 1 for one game and their 4/5 for the other game

Hopefully you'll still struggle against the 1 but not so much against the 4/5

You'll be surprised that the slider adjustment, although all the way down to zero does not hurt the cpu studs as much as you would expect. The biggest difference is that pitches that miss, miss by a greater margin so you can easier identify a "ball". Thats not to say the cpu pitchers don't throw close "balls" because they still do. But, every once in a while you get a break from straining your eyes with pitches that miss by a mile.

I'm looking forward to hearing what you guys find out from this because my test sample is only 4 games.

I don't know if i'm just not finding gaps well enough, but after 10 or so games so far, i'm still seeing a LOT of gold glove plays, at quite a frequent pace. Balls are rarely finding gaps by average outfielders.

It will all likely even out, as apparently everyone else is getting good results with gappers and balls over outfielder heads, but so far, most every outfielder is still tracking balls down like a runaway freight train.

Cool brotha. I'm glad you took my suggestion the right way.

I agree with you on the authentic scoreboards. That is really nice to see and does so much for the replay value as you visit other stadiums.

I also agree about Karros. I missed Rex in the demo and did not think I'd like Karros but I do.

Sending a handful of copies out early won't solve the problem either. The game will always have bugs like all other games. QA is only so big they can only find so much. Then the game ships and withing days thousands and sometimes hundreds of thousands of people have the game. Because of the sheer numbers the community collectively are going to find issues we/QA missed. There is nothing we can really do about that dynamic.

But since you do find these issues when you play we ask that you tell us so we can fix them. We don't like seeing the bugs thread get over 10 pages but at that point all we can do is try to fix them asap.

No game development company enjoys patching their game. Patches cost the studio money. Believe me if we could find and fix every single one we would and we try to do this every year.
Please don't take what I wrote as bashing the game or you guys at all. The Show is my favorite game and pretty much the only game I play. I was just curious on the testing and if maybe some respected OS guys helping would help with this issue. Thank you for the reply and you answered my question which is what I was looking for in the first place since I was not sure what all it intails.

just played as the Nationals @ the Orioles... lost 14-11... crazy game.. I had 21 hits and they had 17... Adam Jones robbed me of a 3 run HR in a sick play..

but it felt like the CPU was cheating honestly. two examples.. routine ground ball.. I throw it to first and the 1B comes way off the bag then my SS bobbles a routine out.. the CPU never makes errors though. go figure.

anyways.. time to boost up to HOF or something to see if it plays more realistic. even tho I'm scared due to what the CPU might do.

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Since my thread got closed and I was directed to the impressions thread I will go ahead and ask here.

If I played MLB The Show 09 and enjoyed it, is there a big difference from 09 to 11 as far as the game is concerned. Please keep in mind that graphics and flashy things are second to me. I want good gameplay and I want good offseason and front office stuff.

Will I get that with MLB The Show 11? I'm on the fence on buying a PS3 system and this game. Thanks!

Just like BK said this is BASEBALL!! Plain and simple. I swear I am watching a real game when I play this game. The mannerism of the star players are spot on!!

Analog control makes it a big upgrade in my opinion. But ask this question in Q and A thread.

You know it is a great game when you start thinking about mistakes you made in a game you played last night. This years game if I can describe it in one word. INTENSE!!

IMO it's going to play a lot like 09. It's just more polished. This is by far the best baseball game I have ever played. I got the YLOD on my PS3, and went out and bought a new one because I wouldn't have it back in time to play this game...if that tells you anything.

For real man....I'm with you. I played a Franchise game last night and was up 5-3 against Philly. Lyon comes in and walks the first batter. The second batter gets a single up the middle. Then Utley hit a walk-off homer, for his second homer of the game. This morning, I was thought to myself, man...why did I throw him that inside change.

Hey guy, just a question about hitting as I'm having a hard time with it...
For analog hitting, are the timing of the strides specific to each hitter? Because each hitter has different strides and we're suppose to be timing it to move it forward right before they put their stride down correct? Or does it not matter when we start their stride along as the pitcher has let go of the ball?

And that is what makes this game scary good. I love the smoothness of the game. And every stadium have a unique feeling to it. Just amazing and I love that Twins camera!!

My last 3 games on HOF (Timing Only)

                              7 2B, 1 3B, 3 HR (my hitting numbers)

Gappers are there, for me at least...2 of the doubles lofted over the OF's.

                              Just stick with it man.
