    Re: Franchise Issues

Simmed to the offseason and saw all sorts of problems-no way to change scouts, no way to fire coaches, and I've got issues with transportation. Anyone got any suggestions on these, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I may skip franchise mode this year.

Yes, this is what I do, and it works great.

However, it takes a lot of time.

            For scouts...
            IN SEASON
            Go to VIEW STAFF
            SCOUTS....
Choose the location you want to hire for and simply hire the scout you want....he will replace your current scout. No negotiations.

            For managers and coaches...
            In the OFF SEASON...
            SCHEDULE screen...
HIRE COACHES(it should read HIRE/FIRE coaches I guess)
On the actual screen to hire a manager coach hit SQUARE...it brings you to YOUR manager/coach screen...
Hit X to fire after highlighting.

            What's the beef with transportation?

Then that makes sense...as far as the video game goes.

How about Adrian G? Was he still on the Sox?
Any contract info for him? I haven't even looked yet to see what year (in the game) he hits FA'cy...

Just wondering if, in that sim you showed, Boston was bidding for Prince as a 1b or strictly a DH.

This is a great example of why having 30 team control is essential. In Heyward's case, i would just take control of the Braves and sign him to a decent contract. If there are any other teams offering him anything, i retract the offers.

                      BAM, no more problems.

I did that once but had to do it literally every day. Very tedious but worth it in my mind.

I thought about doing 30 team control but I just decided it's not worth my time. If there are stupid things done in franchise then oh well, I'll run my team the way I want and hope the logic from other teams isn't too out of whack.

One thing I already like is the budget restraints I have. I released Derek Lowe and Chipper Jones in spring training, resigned them to more expensive contracts a few days later and just like that I have payroll restraints and it's going to be hard to take on added salary in the next few years unless I get an increase in payroll.

I don't have the game in front of me atm but is it possible to play franchise mode by taking out all of the financial stuff and basically going back to reserve clause baseball and improving your team via trades and the draft?

I'd do that in a second rather than manually controlling 30 teams, using multiple profiles and worrying about an AI that can't seem to play its own game in terms of managing budgets and signing players.

This is a huge issue for me as well. Top guys/prospects that are under team control--and not even eligible for arby yet--should not become free agents under any circumstances. Especially when the renewable contracts are on the cheaper side. As an Example: I'm a Pirates fan. Andrew McCutchen made $425,000 last year. He is not arby eligible until after 2012 (team controls his rights thru 2015). He is also our best player. SO, under no circumstances would he--or guys in similar situations--be allowed just to slide into free agency without having even been offered a contract renewal. But so far this is what I'm seeing in my own sims, just like in this screenshot (FYI: All it would take to renew Jason Heyward is $400,000).

So while this may not "break the game", as a Franchise guy, it is definitely a "gamebreaking" issue. This is my first experience with The Show (just got a PS3 on Black Friday) and was one of the main reasons (along with Uncharted and God of War) I shelled out the cash for the system. And so far I think the game is amazing. But seeing as how Franchise mode is really the only thing I care about, this is a tough pill to swallow. In reading through this and other threads I notice there are "workarounds" and such but... I'm not trying to invest any extra time into "fixing" things that, in all honesty, are fundamental and should not need to be fixed. I shouldn't have to control all 30 teams as is suggested to have a semi-realistic franchise experience. Nor should I have to purposely stunt prospect growth in order to stop them from blossoming into good and, in turn, more expensive players.

Please, devs, please... you need to fix these issues. They may seem superficial and they may not be the most important to everybody but I assure you they are important to a lot of us.
