    Thanks
You don't have to lowball them....in the exclusive period after the off season starts....take over the contracts for the first 3 or 4 days(it's 5 days now I believe) and make no offers. Give control back to the CPU(AUTO) for the last day or two and not all the upcoming possible FA's will have enough time to take the offers. Some will...some won't.
If you give them just the one day...more will hit the open market.

Will progression be different at different levels? Will a player progress the same if I put him at Single-A or at the MLB level. I noticed Jonathan Singleton didn't progress last year at AAA, and I was wondering if he would have at MLB.

        Same.
The in season progression/regressions will vary due to the coaches and manager at the different levels...but the year to year is the same(training is across the board)
I asked for(and so did others) and hopefully it will be implemented that different levels will yield different results. Call a guy up to early from A or AA and he may suffer because of it.
        We'll see(hoping!)

Knight is there any way to actually turn budgets off after starting a franchise? I can't see where it is in the options to change that? Thanks,

So after my offseason, my player budget is $8 million in the hole, so am I screwed when the offseason rolls around?

Possibly, you should have some guys hitting free agency after the year, if you aren't contending trade those guys for some young talent.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

Got some tips on contract negotiation that might help you guys. I currently have 60 million in cap space after 3 years of franchise:

                  1. Any player not on the 40 man roster can be signed for the minimum for the max amount of years-400K or less for 10 years. All you have to do is keep the bid up, and they will sign by Feb.10.Not too hard to temporarily take them off 40 in February. I think it's a bug, but not sure.

                  2. Any C rated player or less stands a good chance of not being signed if you refuse arbitration and let them enter FA-I've also signed them for 30K at the end of FA.

                  3. Players with less than 1 year of MLB service can be extended very cheaply-usually for 1-3 million a year. I actually think that's better than using contract renewal.

I know Kinsler is going to be a free agent. Will my budget increse or will I lose my free agents for that season?

Your budget will increase or stay the same with a winning record, go down with a losing record.

I'm going to re-post valsack08's guideline on how budget increase/decrease is calculated:

                        Top 8 record = 1-2%
                        Finish > .500 = Even
                        .450-.499 = -1%
                        .420-.449 = -2%
                        .419-.378= -3%
                        .377-.363= -4%
                        .362 and below= -5%

                        Best record = 2%
                        World Series berth = 2%
                        World Series title = 3%
                        Make Championship Series= 1-3%
                        Worst record = -1%
                        Lowest Payroll = Unchanged

You also seem to get increase if you make the championship series. I didn't see any team get less than a 3 % increase if they made it that far

Could use a little advice. I seem to have a problem with in game saves. I DL'd the 1.16 patch when I was in a short season with Cle. I've now started a short season w/the Reds. The game saves to the next game on the schedule if I play the full game, but if I try an in game save, when I restart the game I get a message at the file save that 1.15 version is required. Its like the game reverted back to the original. Any help?

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds

I'm really feeling like a moron right now but I really need some help. I have gone over and over the instructions on page one of this thread and my 30 team franchise STILL will not work right. I'm going to detail what I'm doing step by step so that somebody might be able to clue me in on what I'm doing wrong.

                              1. First off I deleted every single profile I had made. The only profiles left were the beginner, experienced, etc.

                              2. I created a CPU1 profile that had everything set to auto except for training. I set this as the default profile.

                              3. I created a custom2 profile for me with everything set to manual and my preferences for presentation, etc.

                              4. I chose to start a new franchise with the OSM rosters with full minors.

                              5. I checked the box for all 30 teams. 29 said CPU1, and the Tigers said Custom2. I hit advance.

                              6. I chose no fantasy draft, CPU roster control off, CPU trading allowed, no instant trades, budgets on, force trades on, DH on. I hit the "X" button and my franchise auto-saves.

                              7. In my franchise the Tigers are now listed as CPU1 despite the settings file assocation showing 29 teams as CPU1 and the Tigers as Custom2. It will not allow me to change the Tigers profile to Custom2 without selecting it as default and changing the other 29 teams to Custom2 also. If I try to create a custom3 profile, even if don't choose to make it the default, it forces me to choose "apply changes" which makes all 30 teams AGAIN have the same Custom3 profile.

I'm at wit's end here. Not sure what was wrong with last year's profile system which where I was able to create a 30 team franchise with no issues.

                              P

This isn't written in stone, they're observations I've made after simming several seasons.

There seems to be another level of suckitude, somewhere around .370 because I saw the Astros get -5%. The best I have ever seen is the Yankees or Red Sox get the best record and win the WS and earn a +9%.
