Every team can afford that. It's not alot. Second Base is also a plentiful position as almost every team has an above average 2B.

Oh, and you still want a young controllable RP? Oh, and throw in a fringe prospect? OK.
Are we discussing the same John Danks? lol. The guy who was almost Ricky Romero'd to AAA Charlotte this Spring? The White Sox would love to part with Danks, and EY Jr. is the type of player Kenny Williams likes. But I just wanted to chime in that "solid #3 guy" and "John Danks" no longer belong in the same sentence unless "is not a" comes between them.

Sent Peña, Carter and Maxwell to the Yankees for Gardner, Boesch and Romine.

Brett Gardner is one of my favourite players, being able to hit for average as well as great speed and fielding ability. He will now play Centre Field in Minute Maid Park as its pretty sizeable out there!

As for your franchise, Duda is a good player and a solid guy to add to Altuve.

Have you kept Wallace, or did you get rid of him so Singleton comes through quicker?

Have you thought about signing a free agent for a year such as Thome? That would be a decent temporary measure and he'll get you some dingers along the way.
I think the Yanks trade you made is OK...maybe a little undervaluing Gardner there. The Rockies trade though...man...you really let them put you over a barrel. DeShields and Springer are way, way too much in that deal. I probably would've suggested to add Springer or DeShields into the Yankees trade rather than the other one. In fact, Rio Ruiz would've fit nicely into that deal, ah well.

I'm rethinking going for Duda simply because he's more of a liability on D, and I'd rather put someone decent in LF in place of Carter and move Carter to DH. Some 1B or corner OF guys I am considering: Josh Reddick (doubt I'll pay the price for him), Matt Adams (reasonable to get), Brandon Belt, Anthony Gose, Matt Joyce.

I kept Wallace and he was dynamite in Spring Training. That being said he's hitting .225 or so with 6 HR and 20 RBI in mid-June, so his job is in danger. Ideally, I'd like to roll with Wallace/Carter at 1B and DH after Carlos Pena is traded (Pena's been real Pena-esque for me, .215 10 HR 31 RBI). I would only consider a guy like Thome if I dealt both Wallace and Pena, and I don't think that'll happen.

I doubt Singleton comes up for me before September honestly, as he's not really forcing the issue in AAA right now. But he could challenge for the starting 1B job out of camp in 2014.

Just for your info since you seem interested in comparing, here's my lineup as of now:

1 - CF - Gerardo Parra (preseason trade with AZ)
      2 - 2B - Jose Altuve
3 - 3B - Mike Olt (preseason trade with TEX)
      4 - 1B - Carlos Pena
      5 - LF - Chris Carter
      6 - DH - Brett Wallace
7 - C - Michael McKenry (early June trade with PIT)
8 - RF - Thomas Neal (preseason trade with CLE or NYY...I forget)
9 - SS - Dee Gordon (early June trade with LAD)

So, as you can see I've been active in dealing so far....5 lineup spots are new to HOU in my 'chise. Trying to keep it as fair as possible, and I also realize that cellar dwellars tend to trade more, so I'm not so worried about the volume of trading at this point.

He isn't a #3 but his only bad season was a 5.70/5.01/5.10 slash in just 53.2 IP, and I think he was pitching injured. He was pretty awesome the seasons before that (though **** him for that Bautista incident lol). Plus, he's not even out of options. Crap, I may have to trade for him haha.

Ever since he was mentioned here I was debating it! Danks is really good in game (practiced with him) for his price.

I'm not sold. He's not the pitcher he was. And right about now (in terms of the pitcher's age/tenure etc..) is roughly the time Kenny Williams likes to spin off starters for 'spects...he's been doing it that way for years now. I think he'd love to move Gavin Floyd too, but they're a little too in "win now" mode, which is unfortunate for them since they aren't good enough to win now.

Meh, the pitcher he was was probably a nice #2/3 guy. Underrated. He's probably a solid #4/5 which is just fine.

Agree to agree. I was just raising the point that considering Danks' salary, recent injury history, and declining performance, it wouldn't take a godfather offer to land him. I felt he was being priced a bit unfairly in the thread keeping the Rockies 'chiser from dealing for him, though the spreadsheet I think has it about right.

EDIT: Spreadsheet says mid C for Danks. high C max, imo.

                  What's Danks' in-game salary?

I really wasn't satisfied with the relief pitching I had at the beginning of the season, and I wanted Gonzalez to start for me at Short so I'm fairly happy with what I got.

                    My best lineup is:

IMO Danks was always extremely undervalued and never got his due when he was in his prime. But now I agree with you that his time is most likely past and that he could be a very solid trade chip for a contender who needs starting pitching help.

Yeah, well at the end of the day, fairness/realism etc...as long as you are happy with your team is what counts. Gardner does look real nice atop the order there.

Your team looks a lot more like the current Astros than mine, lol. But then again you are 2 games in? I played a chunk of ST games in my 'chise and figured out who I could and couldn't use, hence the preseason deals for me.

Castro is my 2nd catcher, but I will deal him too...he can't hit himself out of a paper bag for me.

Also, had to deal Marwin Gonzalez as he's basically a failed former Cubs prospect who I watched all too closely when he was with the Cubs org. Dealt J.D. Martinez because he was one of the few decent chips I had. Ditto Matt Dominguez.

Lots of people wanting to start a 'chise with HOU this year, let's see how many of us actually see it through! Good luck with your 'chise and hope to see some updates in the Franchise Progress Thread.

                            Andres Torres and Domingo Tapia?

Alejandro De Aza, John Danks, and a low B?

                            Leonys Martin and Neil Ramirez?

                            Gerardo Parra and Patrick Corbin?

Gregor Blanco/Gary Brown and Kyle Krick?

Colby Rasmus and Ricky Romero/Mark Buehrle?

This ones tough for me. I could potentially see it to the DBacks with Gerardo Parra. Maybe, MAYBE the Mets. Texas as well. Other ideas?

I love Cameron Maybin, and was looking at him, but is Gordon really worth Maybin Luebke, and a mid-high b?
