Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts
Verducci agrees with a lot of you
• Start every batter with a 1-and-1 count. This is too radical for my tastes. You essentially would be changing strikeouts to two strikes and walks to three balls. This is a common tactic for amateur coaches in scrimmages to improve the pace of play to get more repetitions for hitters, pitchers and fielders -- and it does work toward creating a faster game. I just don't believe baseball requires something this drastic.Comment

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts
I 100% support Quick Counts and love it. As for it being polarizing? There's an option to turn it on/off so there shouldn't be any type of "bashing" on this feature. Those who don't want to use it should simply ignore the QC threads and move on.SOS Madden League (PS4) | League Archives

But it will speed up the game when the CPU is batting.Comment

Following my statement last year we can expect a lot of comeback or unfairness talk with this feature when released

Well, the "implementation" is always going to be subject to debate, but you can always "toggle on / toggle off" to your liking...
The more I think about it though, the more I'd like to see the rare 0-0 and some 0-1 / 1-0 counts added to the mix for varieties sake...
Tied into individual batter's plate discipline, etc...
Oh well, fine by me for now...at least in theory...

Yes. As confirmed by Russell in answering another question:

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts
As for sizing up the pitcher - I usually hit select, check his ratings and pitches. Maybe step out once in a while (don't know if that does anything besides buy some time) - otherwise, I probably would need to turn down the pacing the CPU uses when pitching. Sometimes it's almost like quick pitches! Some guys work VERY fast."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts
Earlier you had said every count will start with at least 1 ball or 1 strike. But to be more specific, every count will start with at least 2 pitches thrown, yes?Comment

Re: What are your expectations for Generated Counts
So, I gotta ask:
Why did you guys decide against those types of counts AND is there a possibility that the feature may be retooled to include them in the future?
I'd love to see an option to choose "Normal" (no GC) "Quick" (includes early counts) and "Fast" (mid or late counts only) in the long run...for example...Comment

You answered your own question, but I'll elaborate a little further. The original design for Quick Counts was beholden to three pillars.
1. Cut the game times in half
2. Fun factor, regardless of what we did it had to be fun
3. Simulation stats, regardless of what we did the box score needed to look like the average MLB game.
So everything and anything that didn't fit into those three pillars was removed from the feature. The original prototype was just that a completely random pitch count. However that didn't cut down on the game times at all so it had to go. The feature continued to evolve from there until we had something that was fun, fast, and still resembled a normal game in terms of statistics.Comment
