Re: Playmakers MLB 06 All-Star level sliders

I played 7 full games with these sliders using the Dodgers and went 3-4. I think my era was around 4.0 and I had 6 homers batting about .285 as team in those 7 games. I saw very good variety in the scores of the game. I loved the fact the CPU in a few games attempted 1-2 steals on me. I was actually able to move runners along the bases aswell because the outfielders played more realistic. I'm guessing because of the reduction in the throwing sliders you made helped this out much better. I actually played a game where Soriano was trying to stop me from advancing and he flat out airmailed a throw over the cut off mans head way high which was brilliant to see. I'm getting better at the classic pitching with my placement though sometimes my 3-5 starters and few relievers still struggled. But these are definetly good enough to start my franchise once I get my rosters up to date.

i can maybe give some classic pitching tips, or at least not what to do .

1- when facing a RH hitter and you want to throw a slider inside , aim so it looks like its gonna almost hit the batter.

2- Never throw breaking balls low in the strike zone when you have runners on base and low pitcher confidence.

3- dont hold the button to long when there is runners on base

but how long do you hold the "x" button when pitching normally? sorry if its a dumb question, but i have no feeling on anything when pitching...it's like the ball will just go anywhere....no matter how long or short i hold the X button.

You don't have to really hold it down long. Just press it and IMO the speed of the pitch is determined by the pitchers rating for that particular pitch you selected to throw.

Everyone keeps talking about holding down the X-Button for power but I don't think that's the case. I've simply tapped the X-Button with Millwood, Eaton and Dickey and the pitchers speed seem true life to me. I just focus on placement of pitch not speed of pitch.

I think the Pitch Speed slider and your pitchers ratings handle the speed of pitches mostly in this game. The best advice I can give is to understand how each pitch works and when to use them and not worry about the speed of the pitch it will take care of itself. Pitch placement is most important and your higher rated pitchers using Classic Style will have more control over your lower rated pitchers.

Re: Playmakers MLB 06 All-Star level sliders

I just got done with spring training game and it was a pitching duel until the 7th inning. I was using my 2nd franchise team the Nationals vs the Marlins.

I've never seen the CPU pitcher go the distance until this game. Marlins pitcher Jason Vargas pitched a complete game vs me. He was basically untouchable and I struck out 9 times in this game which was the highest strikeout total for me in this game.

The Marlins won 3-0 as they finally got to my starting Pitcher Ryan Drese in the 7th inning. I was matching Vargas performance inning for inning until Lenny Harris who came into the game as pinch hitter with 1 out got a solo HR off Drese. Then I gave up a triple to Ramirez that drove in 2 runs later in the inning with 2 outs. Drese confidence and stamina was low but I figured I could get through one more batter and I guessed wrong.

Vargas did start to lose some control in the 8th as I got a triple from Michael Tucker but his defense bailed him out. He even hit Guzman in the head on a pitch in the 9th which got me on base with 2 outs but Guzman was thrown out trying to steal 2nd base and that allowed Vargas to get the complete game shutout on 103 pitches.

            Box Score

            Marlins.....3 8 0
            Nationals..0 3 1

            Pitching.....IP H R BB SO
            Vargas......9.0 3 0 0 9

            Drese.......7.1 6 3 2 1
            Eischen....1.2 2 0 0 1

Hey 1st post on this OS... 1st of all keep up the great work PM, I switched over to your NBA Live 06 settings and the game feels as realistic as ever. I'm just wondering, do your MLB sliders work on PSP as well?

I had the PSP game last year but didn't purchase it this year. Although I'm really thinking about getting it. So, to answer your question I don't know without ever playing the PSP game.

Give it a test shot and let me because I'm interested in getting it again this year for PSP myself.

                  Hey playmakers or anybody,

Do you find that the CPU pulling their starters too early with your sliders?? I find that to be an annoying problem with this game .

                  Thanks

                    Playmakers,

One more- on classic could you press the d-pad while the ball is in motion ala high heat- to influence the ball movement ?

I'm actually only in spring training right now so that problem hasn't occured to me possibly because in spring training they pull pitchers early anyway. But lastnight I did have a guy Jason Vargas of Florida throw a complete game shutout vs me.

Also, on Classic once you select your pitch and location you can't influence the ball movement after releasing the pitch.

My biggest gripe was laser arm outfielders and everyone of them being too accurate IMO. I also wanted more tension in the game and bumped up errors because I didn't see many at all. Even at 20 I still don't see that many but the risk factor has picked up with both arm strength and accuarcy being toned down. I Maxed out CPU aggression on the bases aswell to get more base movement.

All Slider numbers are listed from far left (0) to far right Max (20). So a value of 20 means maxed out for example cpu base running aggression.

Question: are the CPU v CPU watchers finding that with the contact at 6 that there are too many strikeouts in the game (that is the reason my contact #'s were higher in order to combat that). I am looking for infield bloopers. I will try these however

Your sliders work wonderfully with the PSP - I highly reccomend getting it - unfortunately you end up staying in places like the bathroom too long.

I love the sliders I'm getting realistic results when I am batting. So far not giving up enough hr's to cpu. I am giving up enough hits just not hr's or hits with cpu runners in scoring position. I am usually able to work my way out of jams. I have cpu contact set at 10(default) and cpu power at 11 to 12. I use meter pitching with ball marker turned off. I just can't get into classic pitching mode. Any suggestions raise cpu contact or power more.

That's a tough question because the sliders were designed around Classic Stlye pitching simply because with Meter it was too easy to slow down the CPU offense.

But if your going to use Meter I would probably use this setup to help the CPU offense.

                              Human Pitch Speed-10
                              CPU Conntact-10
                              CPU Power-15

That should help solve some problems if your sticking with Meter Pitching.

I just played a game with your sliders, Playmakers. Pretty entertaining, except that I found it too easy to hit HR's. I won 9-8 on 2 HR's by Troy Glaus, 2 HR's by Lyle Overbay, and 1 HR by Vernon Wells. It's only one game, so I'll try another game later tonight or tomorrow. I have no problems with pitching though; it was challenging, yet it wasn't impossible. On defense, I did have 4 errors, some of which were my fault, others were just routine throws that were over my first baseman's head.

Edit: I was using Level 2 hitting sliders.
