Re: Playmakers MLB 06 All-Star level sliders

I am having no trouble pitching with these sliders, but I cannot hit and I strike out way too much!

I cannot time the fastball for anything and I seem to not have enough time to see what location the pitch is going to. I don't even bother swinging to a location because of that! Please help me! Is there a setting that helps you see the pitches better? Would lowering the pitch speed do anything? I strike out at least 14-16 times a game and I am using the Yankees!
I just cannot seem to pick up the ball in time and I am either late or early, but I CAN'T TELL if I am late or early on the swing (how sad is that?)
What can be done for a poor sap like me? Thanks!!!

It's weird, I 've never had such a hard time adapting to a game before.

I thought the diagrams of all the pitches in the "tips" section of the game were going to be accurate so that you could know which way your pitches break, but almost none of them matched up to the diagrams during that game. It said a pitch was going to break a certain way and it would go the opposite way.

Can you give me any kind of help on pitching? Maybe I'm using the meter wrong. I hold down the X button until I reach the desired power level and then I let go. When the meter swings back down, I click the X button again when it reaches the center of the "sweet spot".

One other thing... I play on Veteran. Is that relevant at all?

I've never played on the veteran level before I just basically started with All-Star and created sliders.

As for the hitting try this setup:
      CPU Pitch Speed-10
      Human Contact-6
      Human Power-10

Then switch over to Classic and test play about 2 games use this setup for the CPU:

      Human Pitch Speed-10
      CPU Contact-4
      CPU Power-10

Turn on Auto Fielding for Human so you only have to concentrate on Classic pitching and learning how to pitch that way. Let your team make the defensive plays to lessen your load until you feel more comfortable with Classic pitching.

This is kinda the same deal. Lower the CPU Pitch Speed down from 12 to 9 or 10 then increase your contact to 6. But leave Power at 10 unless your not getting good home run #'s then increase it to 12 until your hitting gets better.

You should beable to see the ball better and get solid contact. If you start to get really good then switch it back to the regular settings.

Re: Playmakers MLB 06 All-Star level sliders

I switched the CPU offense in the base sliders to 4-Contact and 16-Power that is the most difficult setting for their offense which is also the Level 3 setup I posted. So, for anyone that is not seeing the CPU produce enough runs if your using the Classic pitching this setting will definetly boost up their offensive arsenal.

If you struggle pitching then I would suggest staying at the Level 1 setting for the CPU offense.

Not helping all that much. Would lowering the cpu pitch speed even more help me more? I could always put it higher once I get a little better (if I get a little better!!!). Woukd like 7 or even 6 help me more?

Lower pitch speed to 7 or 8. This should help. Keep in mind that lowering pitch speed helps with fastballs but may make hitting offspeed pitches a little harder. Also, keep in mind that hitting a 95mph fastball that's on the corner is hard no matter what the setting.

Some tips...take lots of pitches. The CPu's velocity declines as it's pitch count increases. Also, pitches will be over the plate where you can hit them versus on the corners.

First 6 at bats...work the count and only use the X button. Don't use the L stick. This helps me relax and simply concentrate on making contact and judging the breaking balls and fastballs. Many times I'll swing at balls only because they are in the location that I'm aiming my L stick!

Next 3 at bats...your lineup is weaker, therefore work the count and if the count is in your favor, start aimimg the stick where you anticipate the pitch to be.

You'll be surprised that you will get some solid singles up the middle by hitting X. (I've even hit two homers)

A few hits, a couple of walks, some 3-2 pitch counts and some 6 or 7 pitch counts and your ready the lock and load! Start using the L stick but use the X button when you have a pitchers count.

PS..don't worry about striking out, everyone is complaining about too many k's! The CPU tends to go to the ballpen too early thus bringing in fresh pitchers. Here is where the k's pile up.

Do you get more real results with the guess pitch off? currently i have it on and i guess i pick the right pitch most of the time because i get alot of hits, are you playing your games with the guess pitch on or off? and how many hits do you get per game?

I don't use that feature I turn it OFF.

I get about 8-10 hits playing with Guess Pitch OFF. I use Contact at 4 and power at 10 and I have no problems using Texas without Guess Pitch.

IF you want to use the Guess Pitch option but your just getting too many hits then take a look at my other 2 hittings sliders for Human and see if that helps reduce your hits.

PM I went back to the original settings for CPU. I increased their contact back to 6 but lowered their power to 12. I started getting creamed when I upped their power to 16. I had a few good games where I contained them at 4 contact and 16 power but then they started crushing the ball. So, I'm back down to your original level 1 setup.

I really enjoy these sliders, Playmaker. But, I K way too much, and hardly ever draw a walk. It is extremely difficult to pick up a lot of these pitches, and I have all but given up on waiting on a pitcher to draw a walk. It just doesn't happen. I think this may be one of those unfixable flaws, much like stealing. But, that could just be my frustration talking. The thing is, I'm hesitant to make any slider changes now, after starting a season. Anyway, good job.

Yeah it seems like striking out has been a problem accross the boards with many posters.

The only thing I can suggest as stated before is lower the CPU pitch speed like some guy's are doing to help get better eye contact.

As for the CPU walks. I'm really patient and sometimes I might even take the first two pitches just to check the CPU's pitcher control early at bat. Usually I'll catch them out of the strikezone early and I'll go up 2-0 on a few accounts. That's when I get my walks like 2-3 per game.
