Re: HOF Sliders (Project Nemesis MLB 08)

    Nemesis,

I cannot begin to explain how frustrated I am with hitting. I started off awful, started getting much better but now am so mind-f*cked by thinking about what I need to be doing each pitch that I'm hesitant, flayling at bad pitches, watching fastballs go right down the middle, and making awful ground outs, and strikeouts all game. I'm lucky to get more than 1 extra base hit and score more than 2 runs a game these past 10 games. This is more than a slump for me. Guys like Rollins and Howard will get their singles but almost a month into my season and Howard is stuck on 2 HRs. Utley takes bad swings (annimation) at so many sliders out of the zone I sat him last game for Dobbs.

What is your thinking before, and during a pitch/swing?

I feel like I have ZERO time to adjust to a fastball inside. If I look fastball I am flayling at a changeup or watching a curveball drop in for a strike. I personally feel as though there is no defense anymore.

And yet, every time I start a new franchise, my guys hit the crap out of the ball. We get an off-day finally soon so perhaps that will change things.

Pitching is good although some of my guys have been shelled.

I usually plan for fastball and adjust to the breaking stuff. It is a lot easier to react because you can't go the other way. Sounds like you are pressing at the the plate. Try using the guess pitch feature to help you out with the strike zone.

Meaning, if you look for the off speed stuff you are not able to react to the fastball if it is thrown.

            Angels 5 14 0 (this is me)
            Texas 1 5 0

They only got 1 run because i threw to the plate and for some reason my catcher didnt try to tag him out.... I got alot of hits u pthe middle or dinkers through the holes.... (2 solo shots by hunter) (1double) The other 11 hits were singles.....

I have the settings right with no guess pitch yada yada but i do play with strike zone (not hot zones) just strike zone but it disappears when The ball comes.. I find it WAY EASIER to pitch with it on.... Should I turn it off then???? How can u tel lwhats a ball or strike??? maybe that's the point you dotn know???

Well before your sliders I struke out average 8 now i only get 3-4 they seem to be able t ofoul off alot of pitches.....
I would definitely take the zone away, it makes hitting harder. This game is so dynamic from game to game you have to play a few to see if any problems repeat itself.

So how do you tell if it's a fastball? I know it takes time but geez how long? I feel that I have no time to determine if it's a fastball or not. If it is a fastball I might make good contact otherwise it's a flayling attempt.

And then it's tough sometimes to lay off fastballs that are up and/or sweeping across the plate (inside to a RH from a LHP and vice versa).

                ok 2nd game stats....
                Angels 9 15 0 (me)
                Royals 5 9 0

                3rd game
                Angels 0 6 0
                Royals 1 5 0 (shutout complete game)

                4th game
                Angels 6 14 0
                Seattle 3 9 0

Seems really uneven--- some games i cruch them others i don't do so well...

BTW whnever they get 2 guys on (no matter how many outs) it seems the next 3 guys foul of 10pitches each and get a rally goin thats how the score runs....

I wouldn't complane but there hits are little dinkers....

Take advantage of the guess-pitch feature and as you're starting off, always guess fastball. If you guess right, then you know how to time a fastball. If not, expect some off-speed or breaking pitch. Also take advantage of the guess location. If you're early in the count or on a hitters count, guess the location and pitch that you expect you can square off on. If you guessed wrong, then take a pitch and go for the next one. Now of course, if you're on a pitchers count (0-2, 1-2), best way is to always guess fastball and react on a breaking-pitch, but the key is you have to protect the plate....if the pitch is close to the zone, you gotta hack.

Hope that helps. I've been playing on HOF and I use this basic approach and my team is currently hitting .324 (I'm the Angels by the way). Unfortunately, I hit waaaaaay too many singles...but heck, I'm playing with the Scioscia approach: key is guess on base, move the runner, and drive them in however it needs.

Hey Nemesis, have you made any changes to your sliders yet since your last post on msg 562? So far I've used your sliders and its been pretty good....no long winning streaks, no long losing streaks...sometimes I get bombed, sometimes, I bomb them, its been pretty good.

My only question is, it appears that I've been hitting waaay too many singles and not walking much. Do I need to personally tweak your original slider, or do you just recommend me change my approach?

                        ML,

This whole post cracked me up, it gave me the image of you on a psychiatrist's couch, pouring your frustrations out, with a Nemisis sitting in a chair off to the side index fingers together, pressed against his chin.

I laugh because I feel the same way at times. When I chase a damn high fastball I slam my head back against my recliner. Even though it is padded, it hurts a little after a few times an hour.

This is just a suggestion, but try backing the pitch speed a ways. Not sure if you have it already down to zero, if that's the case you're screwed:wink: You will have to move the controller to CPU when you hit. Seriously, that is what I did because I didn't hit squat, then had the epiphany to slow the pitch speed down. I had it on like 18, moved it back to default. Now I am much improved, but still suck I love how in this game it doesn't matter where you have pitch speed, the pitches are crisp and taut, not loopy and rainbowy like in other games on slow speed. Good luck.

You are so correct there! Take my Rockies for example this week against the Padres. Monday, Padres score 15 runs on 22 hits, Tueday, 0 runs on 5 hits, Wednesday, 1 run on 6 hits. Pretty uneven I would say. That's baseball!

Yeah ha it's gotten better having scored 7 runs the past two games after really trying to hone in on fastballs. I still am the league low in BB's but oh well, I'm working on it.

We finally ended our losing streak of 6 games and had lost 10 of our last 11. Brad Lidge even walked a guy becuase he hadn't pitched in a game in almost 2 weeks ha.

No changes made. Make sure left stick aiming is true, that is where you will get your extra base hits. They are there! As far as walks go, it is totally dependent on your approach at the plate. What is the starting Cpu's pitch count after 6 or 7 innings?
