      TNK-

Quick question, is there any reason why you have pitch delay at normal? Do you think by moving it to faster would have any impact on gameplay/sliders? I want to be able to play games at a quicker pace, and am curious if this effects gameplay, if you know. Thanks

No - I want my games to move along.....normal is perfect, it just effects how long in between pitches

            TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

            Game #6 of The Season

Michael Brantley took Jon Lester deep on the first pitch of the game to give the Indians a quick 1-0 lead. Boston took a 2-1 lead in the 3rd on Adrian Gonzalez 4th HR of the season. Lester settled in after the Brantley HR and shut the Indians down until the 7th when Matt LaPorta jumped on a hanging curve and tied the game 2-2 with a solo HR. The game would remain tied 2-2 entering the 9th inning and both teams would threaten with runners in scoring position but neither could get a run home and we would go to extra innings. The Indians had to bring in starting pitcher Carlos Carrasco because their bullpen has been used so heavily the past few games. The Indians had 2 men on base with 1 out in the bottom of the 11th but Alfredo Aceves struck out Hafner and Hannahan to end the inning and send it to the 12th. Boston loaded the base with 1 out for Carl Crawford in the 12th and Crawford lined a pitch up the middle to drive in 2 runs and give the Sox a 4-2 lead. Jonathan Papelbon came on to pitch the bottom of the 12th and retired the Indians in order to close it out and pick up his 1st save of the season.

The Red Sox take 2 of 3 from the Indians and improve to 3-3 on the season. The team now heads to Boston for their home opener vs. the rival Yankees.

I manually injured RP Matt Albers and placed him on the 15 day DL and called up RP Hideki Okajima from Pawtucket (I did this to keep with the real Red Sox roster - I will take an injury if the game gives me one, but I wanted to make this one manually and get Okajima up so I have a lefty in the pen for my series with the Yankees)

Guys - just a heads up. I will be around the next couple days but I leave on Friday to go on a cruise for 9 days. PsychoBulk will be around to answer any questions and be your point man for the thread.

I will be back May 1st and will be diving right back in to my franchise and will be back on the board with authority.

We have also upped HUM & CPU Reliever Stamina to 2...way too many CPU managers burning through bullpens daily with each guy only throwing a handful of pitches, sometimes only 1...this will remedy that.

TNK will edit the first post to reflect all these minor tweaks.

Have to agree with zone hitting tried it out last night, so much better as far as contact on the ball and variation of hits. I will say this though I did change CPU control and Consist to 5 and strike freq to zero, i drew 4 walks but the computer pitcher still had 2 to 1 ratio and did not throw one wild pitch or hit one batter.

Do you "have" to move the L-stick when you swing? Would like to try zone hitting, but sometimes I have enough trouble just hitting the button.

Psycho, since you have switch to zone hitting do you use it like you did last year, kept the PCI in the middle at all times?

Wouldn't you be able to remedy this by adjusting the stamina sliders each time before you sim? I'm assuming you're writing about simmed games.

I need a break, the hitting is driving me bonkers. Timing, is just random hitting. Youre at the mercy of the game and I dont like that. "Perfect swings" result in misses or weakly hit balls. Fed up with that. Went to zone hitting and got more hits, contact, and runs. The caveat was that I struck out even more. Maybe it was AJ Burnett, I dont know, but striking out 12 times in 7 innings is a bit much. Considering he fanned 5 in row on two occasions. I wanted to rip my hair out. Ive wasted so much time on "timing" hitting that im a reckless swinger now. Zone will take some time to get use to and break all the bad habits formed on "timing".

Fyi, I dont move the left stick much, pitches on the black kill me. I must say its just frustrating as "timing" but much more rewarding at the same time. Any zone hitting tips would be appreciated.

Contact swing is almost mandatory in Zone hitting. You really don't ever need to move the circle until you are sure about a pitch and want to drive it, but contact swings help you foul off borderline pitches. Go into practice mode (I promise it won't take long, only about 10-15 minutes) and play recognition mode with Zone hitting, and get into the habit of handling moving the stick in combination with recognizing the pitch. I still do this regularly, about once every couple of weeks, and it always helps to prevent me from falling into bad habits at the plate.

Another good piece of advice is to not keep your thumb directly on the stick while you await the pitch. I've found if I keep my thumb right on it, my hand becomes too jumpy and inaccurate, and I often think one direction and flick in another (particularly on high pitches), resulting in a lot of missed swings. Keep like half an inch of distance between the stick and your finger, to be sure you are going to press in the direction you want to press.

I love zone, but it definitely can be frustrating if you don't have the right approach, so practice is key. Oh and don't forget to explore camera angles. Zone is where they are most important, because you need to be able to read pitches well. I don't know what TNK uses but I recommend Catcher 9 and Offset 6 to everyone and it is well received, especially the former (catcher 9).
