    Yep.

As someone said, Timing is brutally hard with this slider set, sadly took me a month to realise that, extra base hits had totally died a death for me.

Switched to Zone (without moving the PCI, same as last year) and its night and day, double, x-base hits are back finally lol.

As Northface says. Timing leaves you at the mercy of the game too much, it seems to put the PCI wherever it feels like it...at least with Zone you always know where it will be.

Anyone struggling on Timing i cannot stress enough that switching to Zone will more than likely save the game for you.

That's what I will do then. Timing hitting has driven me crazy this year. Totally noob question but what exactly do you do for zone hitting? Is there a cursor or something that you move to where you are looking for a pitch? I've never tried it so I'm not sure what its all about. If someone could explain it that would be great.

Yes, there is a cursor (it's called the PCI or plate coverage indicator, in the game) that you can move to where you think the pitch will be. Or you can move the PCI to "go with the pitch" as the pitch is being thrown. Or you can leave the PCI alone and leave it in the middle of the zone. You can turn the PCI on or off via the gameplay settings menu. You move the PCI with the left stick (i.e., to move the PCI low and inside to a right handed hitter, move the left stick down and left.)

Great post. I was skeptical of zone hitting at first against TNK's advice. I should have listened. I may start my franchise over, 4 out of 5 of the strikeout leaders are all batters for my team. I knew it was bad when I was hoping for contact, not hits, but contact. Anything but strikeouts.

I don't necessarily think the problem is with timing hitting in itself. I think it has more to do with timing hitting on All-Star difficulty. Something just feels off with it. Hall of Fame difficulty with timing hitting is SO much different than All-Star difficulty with timing hitting.

You think so? Im new to Show, so I started on veteran, needless to say I raked on veteran, it was basically batting practice. I used timing on veteran so naturally I did on All-Star. Litte did I know the cpu would trot out Cy Young everyday. Maybeyou are right, all I know is timing is brutal on all star.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***

Yea, I played roughly 50 games (exhibition and franchise) on All-Star with timing and I actually thought about getting rid of this game. I just couldn't handle how bad my hitting was. So I ended up seeing coreyhartsdaughter's sliders for Hall of Fame with timing, and decided to give them a shot. I've played about 8 games with those sliders and timing hitting, and man, you would not believe the difference in my hitting. It was like night and day. I actually feel like I legitimately have a chance for good contact and/or a base hit every time I come to the plate. I don't think it's the sliders at all, I think the TNK/Psycho set will work well with zone hitting. But I like timing and the way it's heavily influenced on attributes and the particular batter/pitcher/situation, so I wanted to stick with that.

I don't have any hard proof or anything, it's just purely my opinion that to get realistic numbers all the way across with sliders, timing is not your best option on All-Star difficulty. Timing hitting just doesn't seem to fit well with the All-Star Pitching AI if that makes any sense. It just makes hitting way too difficult if you want to tailor your sliders to make as realistic a baseball experience as possible.

                      TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

                      Game #7 of The Season

The Red Sox welcomed the Yankees to town for the home opener at Fenway Park. The pitching matchup featured John Lackey and Phil Hughes and both starters were outstanding as the game was scoreless until the bottom of the 6th inning when Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo HR down the left field line that just cleared the wall into the Green Monster seats to give the Red Sox the 1-0 lead. Lackey was dominant and gave Boston 7 and 2/3 shutout innings before giving way to Bobby Jenks who came on to record the final out of the 8th inning with the score remaining 1-0. Boston manager Terry Francona decided to keep Jenks in to close it out in the top of the 9th due to Papelbon being a bit fatigued. Derek Jeter led off the inning with a double and Mark Texeira grounded out to 2nd base to move Jeter over to 3rd with one out. A-Rod was up next and drew a walk to setup runners at the corners and force Francona to now go to Papelbon to try and escape the jam. Papelbon struck out Robinson Cano to record the 2nd out and bring up Nick Swisher. Swisher came through as he hit a wall scraper double off the monster in left field to drive in 2 runs and give the Yankees the lead on a ball that would have been an out in any other ballpark. Jorge Posada followed with an RBI single to make it 3-1 New York. The Red Sox had the tying run up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th after a double by Kevin Youkilis but Mariano Rivera got Ortiz to ground out to end the game.

so whats the biggest difference between zone and timing? im not sure i follow everything that your saying...do you just leave the cursor in the middle and time your swing? or do you move the cursor...i personally use timing because i can concentrate much more on taking pitches rather then worrying about moving the cursor and hitting the ball...ive played 15 games and my team batting average is 256....i have guys on the team hitting 350+ and guys on my team hitting sub 200...i have no problem with timing hitting on all star but im curious to know how ppl do using zone

also, if i wanted to draw more walks, do you think i should switch to HOF hitting? i heard somewhere in the forums that the cpu is more likely to "pitch around" hitters in certain situations

I was on HOF with timing il blood, believe me, its tough going.

Still on HOF but with Zone now, i simply dont move the PCI, you dont need to, look at it after swing on Zone, it covers most of the zone anyway and contact swings pretty much cover it all.

p.s. i walk a LOT on HOF, they are there, just takes patience.

Tigers open up the season with a beatdown of CC, chased after only 3 innings, he never got his heat down in the zone.

Verlander on the other hand was nasty, 4k's with the heater, 4 with filthy curveballs.

A good start to the marathon, roll on Scherzer v Burnett in Game 2 from The Bronx.

Yep, the walks are def there on HOF Zone with these sliders, especially in AAA. Although I'm at 3 on strike freq until I start facing major league pitchers.
