The reason I'm asking all this stuff is because I recently took your advice and made the switch to Zone... and honestly I'm glad I did, sure I've only played 2 games with Zone but I'm liking what I am seeing...
In relation to this, yes, you can make good contact pitches low/away and up/away, some of this is tied in to the batters individual PCI coverage size which is obviously determined by his attributes. Im batting .259 thru 11 games, im 5-6, 10 homers, 16 doubles, 3 triples and 45 walks, yes 45, im 2nd in MLB, but im a very patient hitter.

Contact with balls outside the zone is harder, naturally, and quite correctly you will swing and miss at these at a fair clip, but it is quite possible to make contact on pitches well outside the PCI shown when you hit R3, even without L-Stick movement.

Glad hitting this way on Zone seems to be helping some of you guys, certainly saved the game for me.

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***

After giving up on your sliders a couple of weeks back, I decided to try them again since I'm now better at the game. I tried Zone Hitting without moving the left stick for the first time (switched from Timing), and after just one game I'm sold. The hit variety was fantastic and using Contact swing was critical.

I played as the Royals against the Angels, Hochevar vs Weaver.
I believe it took about 90 minutes to finish the game.

I scored in the first inning after a lead-off walk by Aviles, bunt single by Cabrera and an RBI single by Butler. But I also struck out 3 times. Weaver's changeup and slider got me almost every time.

In the following innings I struggled with the two pitches mentioned above, but I did manage to get a lot of deep counts to drive the pitch count up. This would be huge for me later on.

The Angels scored 3 in the 4th to take a 3-1 lead.

The bottom of the 4th was one of best innings I've ever had. I scored 4 runs which isn't a record for me or anything like that, but I love they way I got those 4 runs.

First batter, Ka'aihue: Walked on a 3-2 pitch.
Second batter, Frenchy: Walked on a 3-2 pitch.
Third batter, Escobar: Sacrifice bunt. (1 out)
Fourth batter, Treanor: Walked on a 3-2 pitch.
      Pitch count!
Fifth batter, Getz: RBI groundout (3-6 Fielder's Choice) (2 out).

Alright, that wasn't what I was looking for but at least I scored a run.

Sixth batter, Aviles: RBI single to center.
      Tied ballgame, great!
Seventh batter, Cabrera: 2 RBI triple.
Eighth batter, Gordon: F8 (3 out).
      5-3 lead!

Weaver had now thrown 91 pitches. That alone felt like a huge victory for me.
He was pulled in the 5th inning after giving up a lead-off double to Butler on a 2-0 pitch.
4.0+ and 94 pitches. (now that was a new record!)

      I ended up winning 8-3.
I got 11 hits, the Angels got 5.
      I walked 6 times.

      Final thoughts: Best. Sliders. Ever.

Alright! I think I figured out my offensive woes...
        Thanks Psychobulk!

It's all about using contact swing with no left analog stick.
I was MR. POWER SWING and so I hit a bunch of home runs but that was all.
Now using zone hitting all-star not moving the left stick is forcing me to be more patient at the plate and not using power swing all the time is leading to more base hits and extra base hits and less flying out to all the fielders etc... AND I STILL HIT HOME RUNS!
Hopefully I can turn around this 6-10 start.

        Oh Twins...

Sharp and gkasper, you have both seen the light too

Anyone else using Timing with this set, read the posts above and previously, i URGE you to switch to ZONE hitting without moving the L-Stick (though you can if you wish, personal choice).

It really is a different ballgame.

the people that are sold after just one game are just as bad as the people that say your sliders are terrible after just one game

I'm hitting more deep balls and extra base hits with contact swing with 2-strikes than I am with normal swings in other counts.

I will be playing my next dozen games or so on zone hitting without moving the left stick, before I decide. However, I did do batting practice for one hour using Timing hitting, and then one hour using Zone Hitting ( no left stick movement). I used the same batter ( Utley ), and same pitcher ( Sabathia ), in the same ballpark, for both hours of hitting. Zone was definitely better, all around. So next is actual game experience.

I have been playing the show since it first came out in 2006. And almost like everyone else I love it. No game gets you closer to real life, and the graphics are just unreal. I use your slider set from last year. however I only used the global sliders. I left the hitting and pitching sliders at default and I had great results. My intention after buying mlb 11 was to do the same thing. use your global slider sets and leave the hitting and pitching sliders at default. This doesn't seem to be working at all.
I play on all star and always have. Just like many other individual my offense has been silenced this year as well as the computers. I'm not a big fan of increasing sliders unless its global sliders. I noticed in the last week or so on your set you changed contact from 5 to 6 and power from 5 to 4. is this because there wasn't enough contact and to many strikeouts? and for power were there to many home runs. or were these sliders changed because like the solid hit slider you like the game play and hit variety. I'm getting tired of not knowing which sliders I want to use and continuously deleting my seasons. I've noticed that since the patch came out neither the computer or I are getting hits let alone runs. Thanks for any help.

Okay quick question to you all see any need for changes with the patch? I'm not talking, "yeah I played two games and"...fill in the blank. I'm asking those that have played 20 or more games if you have seen any changes. I personally play with the pitch controls as pure analog and I have been DEALING compared to before the patch so I might have to move some of the hum numbers, wondering if anyone else is seeing this.

And how is it that you aren't moving the PCI in zone hitting Psycho that just is mind boggling to me!

Not at all. I started a game with Detroit (me) against the Yankees. After 2 innings, I've given up 3 runs on 5 hits, with 1 homerun. Then I had to save it.

Im sitting with a 2.82 team ERA through 13 games so far which is good enough for #1 in baseball. Its tough to figure out though as Im the Dodgers and we have a top 5 staff according to the rankings and on top of that Ive given up 4 runs in each of my last 2 games to the Giants after giving up 9 to the Rockies a few games before that. The problem is for every game I give up 4 runs I then have a game where I only give up 3 hits so Im not sure what to do at this point.

PsychoBulk can you recommend what I need to adjust to improve the CPU offense. I'm leading the league right now in most pitching categories and I'd like to make it more difficult.

I'm neither a Psycho nor Bulky, but I'd say to raise CPU Solid Hits and lower your Pitch Consistency, each by a couple points.

You'd need more information to make a perfect decision though, how many strikeouts a game do you average, how many missed swings a game do you induce? If a lot of your outs are on groundouts and fly outs, then you do in fact need to raise Solid Hits. However if the CPU batters are just overall sucking at the plate, then lowering your Pitch Consistency will make you less dominant over them.

Raising the pitching difficulty level is an option as well.
