Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***
He's just testing it out. I actually played on game like with it at 6 and 4 and didn't like the feel of it. I was making contact with too many pitches. I think thru 3 innings I might've swung and missed onceComment

I don't know how you guys do it ....
[1] Lower offense by reducing SH to 2 (this is what I have it at also)
[2] But increase pitcher consistency.
You lower offense and increase pitching, and the result is that after 7 games using the Royals (yes, the Royals), they play like the PhilliesComment

You at least have to play a full game or two.......you can't base anything on 3 inningsComment

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***
Do not raise power my friend. It will become a game decided on what team hit more home runs.
Secondly, isnt baseball generally decided by the team that hits more home runs, with few exceptions?
With the sliders presented in this thread, the games are decided by which team hits the most ground ball singles up the middle. 3-2 games with 15-18 combined hits (almost all singles). Balls that are crushed are easily caught by the deeply-positioned outfielders.
The per game averages for runs, hits, walks, extrabase hits, and home runs are far below the MLB per game averages. Isnt that important?
From my experience raising Solid Hits will improve both you and the cpu hitting drastically.
Try it out and play the cpu on HOF or All star default. You'll probably get smacked around
Ive been playing with con=5, pow=7, sh=2, pitcher control = 4, pitcher consistency =3 ... and over the last 6 games, I have allowed 4 homers with the Royals staff and hit 3 with their offense. It is an increase, but even then its not to the 2.1 HR per g MLB average.
If pow=7 is "too much", then I would lower con, before I would lower power.
There has to be compensation for each slider move. You cannot make 2 moves that reduce offense, without doing something to challenge the pitching.
We discussed this last year ... that SH and Power seem to have a "trajectory" relationship. When you lower SH and increase power, you increase the "arc and length" of batted balls. When you increase solid hits, you pretty much just increase line drives.
I used the same sliders last year, and it worked the same way (and I keep track of slider results and compare them to MLB results). If anything offense seems a "little light" this year.
It was the same discussion last year when the early trend was to "zero out" solid hits. Every batter came to the plate with a nerf bat.
Ill leave it alone. I dont want to pollute anyones slider thread. Just one comment.Last edited by TripleThreat1973; 04-18-2011, 04:01 PM.GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE

Firstly, I disagree about about raising power.

Isnt that what Ive done? Its not like I just figured out how to put the game into the PS3 and started commenting in slider threads. Same discussions as last year.

I'm all for slider discussions and changes to help improve the game. I've never gotten mad at anyone for giving me advice.Comment

I'm going to keep it there for at least 5 games and see how it goes.
I very highly recommend you stich to Zone Hitting - just give it a few gamesComment

I didn't like the feel of it. That's all. I also use Timing as my hitting though so we probably have different resultsComment

Re: TNK & PsychoBulk ***The Perfect Slider Set 2011 Edition***
TNK, when you use Zone hitting, what is your preference when using the PCI. Do you have the PCI on so you can see it? Do you just leave it in the middle and not use the left stick? Do you aim the left stick pre-pitch and lay off if it's not in the zone you put your PCI in? Do you try to move the PCI where the pitch is going after the pitch is thrown?
I'm just interested in trying zone, but I don't know what the best approach would be for using it.MLB: St. Louis Cardinals
NFL: Minnesota Vikings
NBA: Chicago Bulls

I leave all indicators OFF and no guess pitch - just see the ball, aim and swingComment

I also force myself to throw to API locations, otherwise the tendency would be to have pitch charts look like some I saw the other day where EVERYTHING was down in the zone, as if anyone actually pitches like that, and that would also increase the amount of poor contact.
It'd be interesting to see people's 20 game samples/averages. 20 games generally works really well since it features series against 5-6 teams and it is 4 times through the rotation.
When I look at increased pitcher consistency, which results in more pitches around the border of the strike zone, AND reduced solid hits, How could the game NOT result in reduced offense? That would seemingly be the most obvious conclusion. If it did not, then something would be broken with the sliders.GATEWAY TO GREATNESS: 2010 CARDINALS FRANCHISE
