    TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

OAKLAND A'S @ BOSTON RED SOX
GAME #24 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Jarrod Parker vs. Felix Doubront)

Oakland opened the scoring in the top of the 2nd when Johnny Gomes launched a solo HR to LF into the monster seats to give Oakland a 1-0 lead. Doubront got himself into a jam in the top of the 4th when he walked Josh Reddick to lead off the inning and then threw the ball away on a pickoff attempt which allowed Reddick to get to 3rd base. Doubront did an amazing job as he battled back to get Yoenes Cespedes to line out and struck out Kurt Suzuki and Johnny Gomes to end the inning, stranding Reddick at 3rd base and keeping the score 1-0. Boston stranded two men on base in the bottom of the 4th and we would head to the 5th inning with the A's holding a 1-0 lead. The A's loaded the bases with 1 out in the top of the 5th for Coco Crisp and Doubront walked him to force in a run and make it 2-0, Reddick was up next and popped up to bring up Cespedes with 2 outs and Doubront walked in his 2nd run of the inning as Cespedes won an 8 pitch battle to make 3-0. Kurt Suzuki was up next and was robbed as Dustin Pedroia made a great diving stop on a groundball and threw Suzuki out at 1st base to end the inning. Jarrod Parker continued to roll of the mound and the A's had a 3-0 lead heading into the 6th inning. The Red Sox finally got to Parker in the bottom of the 6th as Adrian Gonzalez wrapped a solo HR around Pesky's pole in RF to make it a 3-1 game. Clayton Mortensen relieved Doubront to begin the 7th inning pitched around a double by Weeks to keep it a 3-1 ball game. Joey Devine came on in relief of Parker who had thrown over 100 pitches for the bottom of the 7th inning and got Punto to it into a double play to end the inning and send the game to the 8th inning with Oakland leading 3-1. Vicente Padilla pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 8th for the Red Sox. Oakland brought in lefty Jerry Blevins to begin the bottom of the 8th and he retired the side in order to send the game to the 9th inning with the A's on top by a score of 3-1. Padilla pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th for Boston and the Red Sox would send Gonzalez, Ortiz, Byrd up to the plate in the bottom of the 9th. Oakland closer Grant Balfour entered the game looking for the save and he got Gonzalez to ground out for the 1st out. David Ortiz was up next and he drew a walk, Cody Ross was called on to pinch run for Ortiz. Marlon Byrd was up next and he grounded out but the ball was hit slow enough for Ross to take 2nd base and that would bring up Jarrod Saltalamacchia as the Red Sox were down to their final out. Balfour settled down and struck Saltalamacchia out to end the game as the A's hold on for a 3-1 victory and have taken the 1st two games of the series.

    * The A's have taken the 1st two games of the series and will look to complete the sweep tomorrow as they send Tom Milone to the mound against Daniel Bard

    * Jarrod Parker was outstanding on the mound for Oakland as he held the Sox to 1 run in 6 innings of work while stiking out 10 and walking 1

    * The Red Sox sent RP Junichi Tazawa back to AAA Pawtucket before the game and recalled RP Clayton Mortensen

The computer on the other hand is only scoring about 1-2 runs and about 5-7 hits per game. I like the tight games as they are fun but I just can not hit at all. And I am one that does not sit on any pitches I swing at pretty much everything so that is one problem that I realize but do you have any input as to how I can tweak the sliders so that way I average about 2-3 runs a game and 5-10 hits per game to match the computer? Thanks!

I was struggling at first with the hitting, then i started to focus on certain things, and now i will have a wide range of scores..one day its 3 or 4 the next zero, then all of a suddent i have two or three in a row where I can score 7+. Here are some of the things I use to help me.
#1. When a pitcher is struggling, his confidence and location will be effected..the quicker you get him to this point the better..and then you will start to see less movement and more fast balls because he is just trying to get it over. When you swing at everything you are just building him up and he knows he can throw anywhere and probably get you to swing..then his confidence increases and it becomes more difficult to hit #2 Batting and timing are big also....if you have a guy on first, the pitcher is going to do everything he can to get you to hit into a double play, so you have to make sure you are aware of the type pitches he will throw (locations) in those situations and then avoid swinging if possible. look to drive it the opposite way (swing late or swing early). #3 I vary my swing selection also...sometimes if i am in a grove I take the first pitch, then the next few i don't.
These sliders are so real....you just have to practice and be aware of the situation at hand. Its not softball so you won't score 15 runs a game, but you can increase your chances if you understand the situations at the plate. I also know that sometimes there is nothing you can do about hits, when a pitcher is on they are on...which makes it very hard to hit, thats baseball...all you can do is sit back and do your best to not get to beat up. Hope this helps.

No magic bullet with the sliders. You simply need to practice your hitting. At the end of the day this is just a hard game, it takes time. The post about pitcher confidence is right on the mark. You have to work the counts and wait for a good pitch.

I also recommend narrowing your strike zone if you are struggling. It's too hard to get good timing and location if you try to cover the entire zone. It's okay to take a strike if it is not in a good spot.

Also BP like contact and timing are great because all of the pitches wil be in the Zone and you can concentrate on getting into a groove.

          TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

OAKLAND A'S @ BOSTON RED SOX
GAME #25 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Tom Milone vs. Daniel Bard)

The Red Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd as they got an RBI single by Cody Ross and Darnell McDonald blasted a 2-run HR into the monster seats in LF. The game remained 3-0 into the top of the 5th when Oakland had two men on base and Coco Crisp came through with a double to score two and cut the Boston lead to 3-2. Bard struck out Jemile Weeks to end the top of the 5th and strand Crisp in scoring position to keep the score 3-2. Jacoby Ellsbury was thrown out stealing 2nd base to end the 5th and the game would head to the 6th inning with Boston leading 3-2. The Red Sox had two men on with 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th and A's manager Bob Melvin came out to get Milone and brought in Ryan Cook to face Cody Ross and he delivered a clutch double to score Gonzalez and make it 4-2. Cook got out of the inning as he struck out McDonald after a great 10 pitch battle and we would go to the 7th inning with Boston on top by a score of 4-2. Kurt Suzuki led off the top of the 7th with a solo HR to LF to cut the lead to 4-3 and that would be the end for Daniel Bard as Matt Albers was summoned form the Boston bullpen. Albers was welcomed rudely to the game by Johnny Gomes who blasted a solo HR to RF as the A's go back to back to tie the game up at 4-4. Albers recorded an out before allowing back to back singles to Sogard and Crisp to setup runners at the corners with one out and Bobby Valentine came out to get Albers and called on lefty Franklin Morales with Jemile Weeks coming up. Weeks laced the 1st pitch he saw from Morales into LF for an RBI single to give Oakland a 5-4 lead. Morales got Seth Smith to popup for the 2nd out and the Cespedes singled to LF but Cody Ross came up throwing and gunned down Crisp at the palte for the final out of the inning. Jim Miller came on to pitch the bottom of the 7th for the A's and recorded the 1st two outs of the inning before he hung a curveball to Jacoby Ellsbury who drilled a 422 foot solo HR to straight away CF to tie the game at 5-5. The A's went right back to work in the top of the 8th as Daric Barton doubled and Kurt Suzuki drew a walk to begin the inning, Johnny Gomes was up next and Morales got him to hit into a huge 6-4-3 double play to bring up Cliff Pennington with a runner on 3rd base and two outs. Pennington came through with an RBI triple into the triangle in CF to put Oakland back on top 6-5 heading into the bottom of the 8th inning. Brian Fuentes came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th for Oakland and got Gonzalez and Youkilis for the 1st two outs before David Ortiz hit his 2nd double of the game, Ortiz was pinch run for by Ryan Sweeney. Cody Ross was up next and he put on a great at bat as he fouled off a few tough pitches with 2 strikes before lining an RBI single into CF to score Sweeney and tie the game up again at 6-6. Joey Devine relieved Fuentes and got McDonald to fly out to end the inning and send the game to the 9th inning locked in a 6-6 tie. Franklin Morales remained in the game for Boston and pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 9th and the Red Sox would have a chance to win it in the bottom of the 9th. The A's made a strange move as they went to their closer Grant Balfour for the bottom of the 9th with the score tied. Mike Aviles singled with 1 out and moved to 2nd on a Jacoby Ellsbury groundout but Balfour got Pedroia to ground out to end the threat and send the game to extra innings. The Red Sox went to their closer Alfredo Aceves for the top of the 10th and he pitched a 1-2-3 inning. Adrian Gonzalez led off the bottom of the 10th with a wall ball double and Jerry Blevins came on to relieve Balfour. Blevins got Kevin Youkilis to ground out to SS for the 1st out, Marlon Byrd would be called on to pich hit for Sweeney and he would ground out to bring up Cody Ross with 2 outs. Blevins got out of the jam as he got Ross to ground out and we would go to the 11th inning tied 6-6. Former Red Sox Josh Reddick pinch hit for Gomes to lead off the top of the 11th and he roped a double into the gap in right center to give the A's a man in scoring position with nobody out. Eric Sogard delivered a 1 out RBI single up the middle to score Reddick and give the A's a 7-6 lead. Jemile Weeks added an RBI single to make it 8-6 heading into the bottom of the 11th. Blevins remained in the game for the bottom of the 11th looking to close it out. Kelly Shoppach drew a one out walk to bring the tying run to the plate in Mike Aviles and he would go down looking at a questionable 3rd strike for the 2nd out. Jacoby Ellsbury grounded out to end the game and the A's complete the 3 game sweep with an exciting extra innings 8-6 victory.......WHAT A WILD GAME!!!

          * The A's sweep the 3 game series at Fenway. The Red Sox will have a day off before the Baltimore Orioles come to town for a 3 game set.

          * A's 3B Eric Sogard had a big night as he was 3 for 5 with 3 runs scored and 1 RBI

Ok, im having a terrible time hitting, i score like 1-2 runs per game and no HR. Do you suggest I bump Contact and Timing to 7. Or any other suggestions. Thanks.

Try to change your hitting to veteran and keep pitching at All-star....once you start hitting you will probably need to lower contact and timing back to 5. Once you feel you have dominated those settings then come back to these.
I know some people have done this to get their hitting down.
These sliders are a little more advanced, so I suggest practice and try different things, eventually over time I will bet you are back with these.

Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

Posted these stats over in the franchise progress thread. Figured I'd stop by and show em here to give an idea of what my season stats were using these sliders.

                  Pitching:

                  Tim Hudson 15-8 2.83 ERA
                  Tommy Hanson 9-9 4.13 ERA
                  Mike Minor 14-5 3.18 ERA
                  Brandon Beachy 10-7 3.76 ERA
Randall Delgado 2-5 4.66 ERA (brought up around the trade deadline after trading JJ)

                  Craig Kimbrel 47 Saves

                  Hitting:

                  Michael Bourn .231 3HR 31RBI
                  Martin Prado .295 17HR 62RBI
                  Brian McCann .264 27HR 72RBI
                  Dan Uggla .289 40HR 102RBI
                  Chipper Jones .280 13HR 51RBI
                  Freddie Freeman .281 27HR 84RBI
                  Jason Heyward .280 21HR 62RBI
                  Tyler Pastornicky .248 2HR 34RBI

Averages are a tad bit high all around except for Bourn who's struggles kinda averaged it all out teamwise. Good mix of pitching stats though with a hella surprising year from Mike Minor.

Hey TNK, I notice your jacoby is raking pretty good. Mine is struggling and as a result my runs are suffering. Do you have a particular pitch or area you sit on with him or which field you shoot for? If I could just get him on base more often he is a virtual lock for a steal...

I am trying these as manage only mode, do you think I need to make any changes or play as is?

There is a great thread with manager mode sliders. They work amazing. I dunno if you checked that thread out but before the schedule glitch was fixed that is pretty much the only mode I was playing.

What modifications to V2 are you currently playing with. You mentioned earlier pitch speed to 3; are you still rolling with that?

These sliders are great, thanks so much for your hard work on them!

Most of games are fairly close but I just played the best game I ever have, it was an absolute blowout. I was actually drawing walks for once and I always seemed to find the gaps. Ended up winning 15-1!
