Because of my crazy last game, I felt it might be good to post the next game. Once again, errors plagued Cabrera at 3rd ultimately costing me the game. Game went 13 innings and I burned through my bullpen. Bosch hit a 12th inning liner to right but the runner on second was gunned out at the plate. In the top of the 13th, a game winning ground rule double by Butler scored their runner from second. In the bottom of the 13th, I failed to get the runner home from 3rd giving the victory to the Royals.

So once again, sliders are playing great. But dang, the Tigers fielding is killing me right now. Last 3 games I've been plagued by errors.

GAME #62 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Josh Beckett vs. Mark Buehrle)

The Red Sox and Marlins begin a three game series in Miami with a battle of veterans on the mound as Josh Beckett opposes Mark Buehrle. The Red Sox got off to a quick start in the top of the 1st when Adrian Gonzalez singled with two outs and Kevin Youkilis crushed a high fastball from Buehrle 416 feet for a HR to give Boston a 2-0 lead. The Marlins had runners at the corners with one out in the bottom of the 2nd for Omar Infante who ripped a groundball up the middle but Mike Aviles made a great diving stop and flipped from his glove on his stomach to start a highlight reel 6-4-3 double play to end the inning (easily the best defensive play by my team so far this season). The Red Sox loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the 3rd on back to back singles from Pedroia and Gonzalez and a walk to Youkilis. Jarrod Saltalamacchia ripped a single to LF to score Pedroia and make it 3-0. Will Middlebrooks was up next and he unloaded the bases with a grand slam as Buehrle hung a curveball and Middlebrooks crushed it to give the Red Sox a 7-0 lead and knock Buehrle out of the game as Ozzie Guillen brought in Chad Gaudin with nobody out in th etop of the 3rd. Boston added another run off Gaudin on an RBI double by Ellsbury and had themselves an 8-0 lead. Beckett retired the Marlins in order in the bottom of the 3rd and it was 8-0 Boston heading into the 4th. The Sox added two more runs in the top of the 4th to make it 10-0 and the rout was on. Josh Beckett was cruising and had retired 9 straight before a single by Omar Infante and the Red Sox had a 10-0 lead heading into the 6th inning. The score remained 10-0 heading into the 7th as Beckett had limited the Marlins to just two hits through 6 innings. Matt Albers replaced Beckett to begin the bottom of the 8th with a 10 run lead and gave up 2 runs in the inning as we would head to the 9th inning with the Red Sox leading 10-2. The Marlins were down to their last out in the bottom of the 9th when Rich Hill had to leave the game with an injury and Scott Atchison would come in and record the final out as the Red Sox win this one by a score of 10-2.

* The Boston offense busts out of their recent offensive funk in a big way as they busted out for 10 runs in the game

* Will Middlebrooks continues to produce for the Red Sox as he went 3 for 5 with a grand slam and 4 RBI in the game. The Red Sox are likely to trade Kevin Youkilis before the trading deadline and hand the 3rd base job over to Middlebrooks full time.

* Rich Hill left the game with an injury and was placed on the DL with a Sprained Elbow Ligament (3 to 4 Weeks). Mark Melancon was called up from AAA Pawtucket to fill the vacancy in the Sox bullpen.

I personally watch each hitter and see how they attack the zone. If I have them at 0-2 or 1-2, and I see they are struggling to catch up with the fastball, I will target the upper inside corner and throw a fastball or cutter that tales into the hitter.

If they are being super over agressive, that's a good time for a well placed change up.

If I have a hitter 0-2 or 1-2 and they seem to have me timed on the inside pitch, I will throw a slider low and outside going away from the hitter setting it outside knowing it will most likely be a ball and then will follow it up with another slider to the same spot but just a little more inside the strike zone. Sometimes I set up the slider low and away with a high middle fastball out of the zone to change their eye level. Or if they foul off that first slider I throw, I strike a lot of guys out by following it up with a low outside fastball on the black.

GAME #63 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Clay Buchholz vs. Anibal Sanchez)

The Red Sox and Marlins get back at it in the second game of this series with Clay Buchholz throwing for Boston against Anibal Sanchez who came up through the Red Sox minor league system before he was part of the Josh Beckett trade in 2006. The Marlins had runners at the corners with two outs in the bottom of the 2nd and Bobby Valentine would call for an intentional walk of John Buck to load the bases for the pitcher Anibal Sanchez. The move paid off as Buchholz would get Sanchez to fly out to end the threat and we would go to the 3rd inning tied at 0-0. Anibal Sanchez would record the 1st two outs in the top of the 3rd before the Red Sox would load the bases for Adrian Gonzalez and he would deliver a single to LF to score two runs to put the Sox on top 2-0. Jose Reyes led off the bottom of the 3rd with a triple and he would come in to score on a sac fly by Bonifacio to make it 2-1. The Red Sox still had a 2-1 lead after 5 innings of play as both pitchers settled in to the game and were throwing well. Will Middlebrooks hit his 6th HR on the season as he went deep for the 2nd day in a row with a solo HR to the opposite field down the RF line to extend the Boston lead to 3-1 in the top of the 6th. Buchholz would pitch around a walk in the bottom of the 6th to finish his day strong as he gave the Sox 6 strong innings on the mound and we would head to the 7th inning with Boston leading 3-1. Andrew Miller relieved Buchholz for the bottom of the 7th and pitched a 1-2-3 inning to send the game to the 8th inning with the Red Sox holding a 3-1 lead. Ryan Webb retired the Red Sox in order in the top of the 8th to keep the Marlins in the game at 3-1. Mark Melancon came on to pitch the bottom of the 8th and gave up a leadoff single to Bonifacio who would steal 2nd base to give Miami a man in scoring position with nobody out. Melancon would battle back to retire Hanley Ramirez by strikeout and Giancarlo Stanton on a groundout to bring up Logan Morrison with two outs. Boston skipper Bobby Valentine would bring in Franklin Morales for the lefty lefty matchup and Morales would freeze Morrison with a nasty 95 mph fastball on the outside corner to end the inning and we would go to the 9th inning with the Red Sox leading 3-1. The Red Sox went quietly in the top of the 9th and we would head to the bottom of the 9th with the Marlins needing two runs to tie in their last at bat. Boston closer Alfredo Aceves would make his way in looking to slam the door in the save situation with a 3-1 lead. Gaby Sanchez would leadoff the inning and he hit a rocket line drive that Will Middlebrooks robbed with a nice leaping catch at 3rd for the 1st out. Omar Infante singled with one out and the Marlins would bring the tying run to the plate. Chris Coghlan pinch hit for John Buck and he would rip a groundball right to Adrian Gonzalez at 1st base and he started the 3-6-3 double play to end the game as Aceves picks up the save and the Red Sox win 3-1.

* The Red Sox have taken the 1st two games of this series and will look for the sweep tomorrow as they send Felix Doubront to the hill against Carlos Zambrano for the Marlins. Boston has now won 4 straight and has pulled within a half game of the 1st place Yankees in the AL East

* Clay Buchholz picked up his 7th win of the season as he pitched 6 strong innings for the victory

* Adrian Gonzalez picked up his team leading 50th RBI of the season as he continued to rake as he has done all season and is now hitting .312 on the season.

* Will Middlebrooks continues to push for Kevin Youkilis job as the starting 3rd baseman with another HR

i have been playing alot the last few days 9 (10-15 games) and would say TNK sliders are really good but for me i made a few adjustments

contact 5
power 4
timing 5
solid hits 4

everything else i left with TNK what do ppl think?

If it works for you.....great!!

I would suggest to others to stick with what's working for you.....don't make changes because someone else has though unless you are having trouble and need to make that adjustment

When TNKNGM’s v1 set came out, I was reluctant to drop solid hits to 4 (from 5) but eventually bought in. When v2 came out, dropping solid hits to 3 seemed insane to me! I played 143 games (simming every ½ inning & only batting) using v2 with solid hits at 4. THOUGHT these sliders were perfect for me until patch 1.21 came along & wiped out my KC franchise!

Soooo… I went back to the drawing board using v2 (no adjustments) & I just couldn’t get anything going? I wasn’t quite good enough with solid hits @ 3, a little too good with solid hits @ 4 it seemed? I spent countless hours trying to find a happy medium until “Rochopper” suggested upping human contact one click to 7 (from 6)… PERFECTION! Perfection for me anyway…

Do what you do, we’re ALL different… But, the bloopers & balls falling between your 1B, 2B & RF just won’t happen with solid hits @ 4. Every extra base hit now feels earned IMO. Sure makes those “Magestic” HR’s a little more special too.<O

ok guys thanks for the input, TNK,GW

the problem i'm having is not getting enough extra bases and MOST of mine and the cpu runs come from HR, and need to produce more (rbi runs ie getting players all the way round)
but will put solid hits back to 3

so i'm getting enough runs just the too many HRs (thats why power is down to 4)

so what do you suggest i do? cause doesn't raising contact help hit HR as well?

And lastly TNK and others would the sliders work for the next difficulty up?

Raise your contact and timing - give it 10 games before making any other changes

You need to stick with a change for 10 games to get a true feel

GAME #64 of the season (Pitching Matchup - Felix Doubront vs. Carlos Zambrano)

The Red Sox look to complete the 3 game sweep of the Marlins in Miami as they send Felix Doubront to the hill against Carlos Zambrano for Miami. Boston took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd inning after Kevin Youkilis walked and Kelly Shoppach hit an RBI triple as he lined a ball into the gap that got past the dive of Bonifacio and rolled to the wall. Zambrano would strand Shoppach at 3rd as he got Punto and Doubront to end the inning and the Red Sox had a 1-0 lead. Miami answered back in the bottom of the 2nd as John Buck hit an RBI double with one out to tie the game at 1-1. The Red Sox had runners at the corners with two outs in the top of the 3rd and Kevin Youkilis came through with an RBI single to make it a 2-1 game. Felix Doubront got Giancarlo Stanton to pop up with Ramirez in scoring position to end the 3rd inning with the Red Sox on top 2-1. The Red Sox went to work with one out in the top of the 5th as Pedroia and Gonzalez singled, they were followed by David Ortiz who ripped an RBI single to RF to make it 3-1 and setup runners at the corners for Youkilis. Zambrano would get Youkilis to bounce into a 5-4-3 double play to escape further damage and keep it close as the Sox had a 3-1 lead. Chris Coghlan drew a leadoff walk in the bottom of the 6th but Doubront would bounce back to get Hanley Ramirez to fly out for the 1st out and Stanton would line into a double play as Coghlan was running and Stanton lined the ball right at Ortiz at 1st base who made the catch stepped on the bag to to end the inning and send the game to the 7th with Boston leading 3-1. Steve Chisek replaced Zambrano on the mound to start the top of hte 7th. Doubront's day was finished as Will Middlebrooks pinch hit for him to begin the 7th and Middelbrooks stayed hot as he lined a leadoff double down the LF line. Ryan Sweeney would beat out an infield single on a chopper over the mound to setup runners at the corners with nobody out. Marlins skipper Ozzie Guillen would bring in Chad Gaudin from the pen and Dustin Pedroia would make it 4-1 with a sac fly to LF to score Middelbrooks. Edwin Mujica would would come in to replace Gaudin and Adrian Gonzalez followed with his 4th single of the game. David Ortiz would strike out for the 2nd out but the runners would move up to 2nd & 3rd when the ball bounced away from Buck. Mujica intentionally walked Youkilis to load the bases for Cody Ross with two outs and Mujica would get Ross to ground out as the Red Sox leave the bases loaded and had themselves a 4-1 lead. Vicente Padilla would take over on the mound for Boston and gave up a leadoff walk to Gaby Sanchez and Donnie Murphy would single with two outs to setup runners at the corners. Jose Reyes would be called on to pinch hit in the pitchers spot but Padilla would throw all sinkers and get Reyes to ground out to Punto at SS to end the threat and we would go to the 8th inning with Boston leading by a score of 4-1. Ryan Webb pitched a 1-2-3 top of the 8th for Miami. Mark Melancon took over on the mound for Boston in the bottom of the 8th and would pitch around a single by Hanley Ramirez to send the game to the 9th inning with the Red Sox leading 4-1. Webb retired the Red Sox in order in the top of the 9th to give his team a chance in the bottom of the 9th trailing by 3 runs. Red Sox closer Alfredo Aceves would come on with a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the 9th looking to close the game and pickup the save. Aceves got Gaby Sanchez to ground out to begin the inning for the 1st out. Omar Infante would reach base on a single but Aceves would strike out John Buck for the 2nd out. Donnie Murphy was the last hope for the Marlins and he would pop out to Punto at SS for the final out as the Red Sox win 4-1 and complete the 3 game sweep in Miami.

* The Red Sox sweep the three game series from the Marlins and will enjoy an off day before they start a much anticipated 3 game series at Wrigley Field in Chicago against the Cubs and former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein. The Red Sox will be sending Daisuke Matsuzaka to the mound for his 2nd start of the season against Travis Wood for Chicago in the opener
