Ya I figured as much. I was just wondering if striking out too much was a common problem or something. I probably need to learn how to contact swing more, as I typically only save that for when I need to protect the plate.

Learning how to read the pitch right out of the pitchers hand is critical to really becoming a good hitter. Once you get that down....your on your way.

I only use contact in 0-2, 1-2 counts. I never....ever really use the power swing...in fact I think I have used it half a dozen times over the course of The Show 11,12 and now 13. It is so rare.

hey armor, how do you go about picking up the pitch right out of the hand...sometimes i have a run where i can read it well, then i'll go on these slumps where i just can't pick it up for anything. i play with pitch speed on 0. do you have any tips as to where to focus pre pitch?

Knowing the pitchers release point is everything. So take some pitches and watch where in his motion he releases the ball. Sometimes I have a hard time with some pitchers release points.....therefore have some struggles at the plate.

          Ahhhh the beauty of baseball.

Man, the release point is such a simple suggestion, but I didn't think about focusing on that specifically. Big help.

I want to share another thing I tried that has helped strikeouts BIG TIME.

It's also simple: use the Contact Swing more. It's cut my strikeouts in half, literally.

So with leadoff types I use contact swing in 0-0, 0-1, and obviously 0-2. I also use it in 1-1. I will use Regular Swing only when I'm at 2-1 or better, and have largely reserved Power Swings for 3-0 or 3-1 counts.

I even use a modified version for power guys. This has helped me go from 8-12 K/GM to 4-6 K/GM. And I'm still getting power production since I'm reserving the contact and power swings for counts where I'm very likely to get a pitch over the plate or am likely to get a wide pitch that I can easily lay off for a ball.

Implementing this strategy for me goes:
              Crisp: Contact
              Lowrie: Contact, Normal vs. LHP
              Cespedes: Contact early, normal ahead
              Moss: Contact early/normal ahead
Reddick: Contact early, contact even, power ahead
              Sizemore: Contact straight through
              Donaldson: Contact straight through
              Jaso: Contact Straight Through
              DH: Contingent.

There are exceptions, but this has added a lot more consistency to my offense by reducing strikeouts and increasing the chance of getting singles to get guy s on base.

Hi Armour and fellas. quick question. Im playing a Reds franchise, using your sliders and they are great. Im only playing 1 yr.,not multiple seasons. I play 1 game, then sim 5,so I will only will play 30 games or so. wish I had time for more, but I don't. I have injuries on 5,but see you boosted them to 7. Considering im playing just 1 season, should I leave injuries at 5,6,7, ??? I don't want devastating injuries, but some injuries would be cool over the yr....any advice guys ??? thanx

I bumped it to 7 to get try and get a realistic amount of injuries over the course of 162 games...whether you play all 162 or sim some or even all your games.

So give it a go at 7.

Well after a month with these sliders I figured a little feedback in the way of stats might work. My walk rate has dipped tremendously as Ive become more aggressive at the plate which had led to more runs but fewer walks, anyways here are my stats through a months worth of games with these sliders....

How are folks doing with HUM control and strike %?

For the longest time now, I've been having issues with getting out of any inning with less than 20 pitches. I've been hitting 58-64% and have routinely been at 75+ at the end of the 4th. This means that I'm really pressing to get even through the 7th with high-stamina starters.

                          Suggestions or thoughts?

Sounds like your trying to paint the black and are trying to pin point too much. try to induce more contact and trust your defense. I am not saying throw every pitch down main street but you may be trying too hard.

Normally I am either getting a high number of strikeouts when I have guys in a high pitch count early...or getting bombed. I typically am around 10-14 pitches per inning. But sometimes I get chased early...sometimes I go deep with a pitcher above and beyong when he is already tired. I feel things and go with my gut when I have a guy pitching a gem or just flat out dominant.

I really have no suggestions as far as the slider settings as they IMO give you a realisitc resutls you want long term.

It could be a number of things. Is the CPU hitting too many foul balls? Are they not chasing out of the zone enough? Are you giving up too many hits? Or maybe your control really is too low?

It could also be something to tweak in your approach as A&S said. Maybe you are nibbling too much? Maybe you are throwing too many "waste" pitches with two strikes?

For some context, I haven't changed any of A&S's settings. They're basically perfect for my skill set.

My sample size for this issue is 50+ games, which is decent but not comprehensive by any means. I've used several teams, all with good rotations.

The pattern seems to be two solid outs and then a shelling which keeps the inning alive and puts me in the 25 pitch range. I never have a 15 pitch inning, much less a 10 pitch one, which is fine because the latter are rare. The former should happen with some regularity as this is the normal average in real life, I believe.

I think I may be nibbling and trying to set up batters whom I should probably just attack. I'm going to try to make that adjustment and see what happens.

The sliders work too well to warrant a tweaking; I was just curious if others were having this issue consistently and how they dealt with it. I'll report back after working on this adjustment.
