Re: Mike Lowe MLB The Show '17 Sliders

SO. Because my previous Braves franchise was run off OSFM v. 1 not 1.5, and because I had over 20 hits but only 2 extra base hits through 5 games, I thought I would start over and, given how excited Mike was about the 1.6 set, I thought it was a good time to do so. Below is an abbreviated box score for the game. Teheran was walking the tightrope the whole time, including a bases loaded one out jam which he escaped through striking out Syndergaard and getting Walker to pop up.

Braves registered their first hit against Syndergaard in the 5th with a double and got one more hit in the 8th.

I'm definitely not doing this every time because it takes ages but...on Mike's 5 key stat points:

Mets pitchers threw 64% strikes, Braves threw 71%
    Mets first pitch % = 78%, Braves 71%
Mets BABIP .385, Braves BABIP .080!!!
    Mets miss+K =23%, Braves 19%
    Mets fouls = 19%, Braves 16%

Mike, correct me if I'm wrong, but EVERYTHING apart from my BABIP and the first pitch numbers looks excellent! (my own strike % is me getting p****d off after I gave up the hr in the 7th and starting slinging everything in there!)

I am playing with power on 2 but everything else as is on your set, so don't want to mess with anything at this point, but if I am still stinking up the place after a week, I will look at solid hits to 6 rather than contact, already not striking out much so don't want to close that window even more.

Anyway, congrats pal, these look super.

Second. I dont feel like I'm giving up enough walks. Averaging about 1 a game. Any tips for making it a little more difficult to hit the strike zone
Yeah, try dropping to All-Star for hitting and see how it goes. I'm having similar struggles; all of my games I've had a low BABIP and we have a pretty bad offense right now.

As for pitching, you have to be honest about really trying to paint the edges. If you want, yeah you could go all season long and hardly walk anyone--that's just how this game is, unfortunately. If you really try to pitch cautiously in places, you'll see walks. I still get walks when I'm not even trying to, and I'm around 18-20 in the league in walks against while pitching so far.

Ok cool man thanks, I'll drop to All-Star and report back. As for pitching, I hear what you're saying. I do give up a fair few hits so maybe I'm just not being careful enough with placement. I'll try being more cautious and see what happens. Appreciate all your work.

With aces on the mound like you'll see on Opening Day, those strike % are fine. Your aces will throw closer to 70% than 60%.

Yes, the offense is a struggle for all of us right now. I guess we could try solid hits at 6, or even hitting on All-Star (gasp). ALLLLLLL we need to start seeing is more BABIP for us users, while not affecting anything else. That's it. The rest is beautiful!

Perhaps if solid hits doesn't help, we could try power at 0 and contact at 6. I'm also not drawing as many walks as I normally do, so I wouldn't mind bumping contact up to 6...but I started CRUSHING balls for HRs, hence the reason to perhaps try user power at 0 if we go 6 for contact.

Sitting tight for now. Thanks for sharing the results. Even the AI might be a bit too high with their BABIP, but the challenge has been great. I'm 1-4 so far, and every game has been 1-run, aside from this last game I lost 4-2. Still, we want to get their numbers right, so we need more games to know what's going on for sure. I think the AI is fine, actually. I might bump their foul ball back down to 1, but want to hear what others are seeing. That's the only change I'm considering for AI at the moment.

And quit starting over! You'll drive yourself nuts

How can you hit so good without seeing the PSI? Every time i move the PSI i hit under or on top of the ball

Yeah, quite tempted by solid hits at 6 but will give myself the chance to battle back into it. It's so hard to find the balance where one night you can be two but the next night erupt, than go back to nothing again (as in real life) without feeling the inconsistency as a problem! I'll monitor the babip (first time I've given up double digit hits so I'm ok with it) and see how we do.

And don't worry, first and last restart!
              Currently playing MLB 23

Pipe dream: a good cricket game! (still)

Would having pitching on legend make pitching any harder

Truthfully, by originally having the cursor visible while playing. I got used to how it responds, and how it "whips" back to the center (mistake pitches) if you just let go. Find a SIMPLE pattern/thought process, and stick to it. Don't over complicate it, and just practice, bud.

I originally used to play with directional hitting, but I really like hitting with zone, and am quite impressed with how responsive it is while still keeping hitters unique from one another, and not all just matching my style of play. Well done by San Diego Studios!

I think it would make pitching harder by making the AI hitter that much better. So yes.

Going to stream now w v1.6, but with two tweaks I'm investigating:

                        1) CPU foul frequency -1 to 1
                        2) CPU pitcher control -1 to 4

With the latter change, I'm hoping we can bump up the user offense some without inflating anything else.

Stream will be up shortly on YouTube.

Hey man your sliders sound interesting! I've been playing The Show for years but HoF difficulty is not something I'm confident that I'm ready for. Could I still use your sliders on a lower difficulty?

Yes, as I've mentioned before in the thread, I would give it a try and report back for others who may be wondering the same thing.
