Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

Just thought I would chime in with my take on Directional. I don’t tend to say it’s made me a better hitter instead I relate Directional to my players. It’s works for some players better than others. For example 3 of my best hitters from last year were JD, Xander and Christian Vasquez. Of course it was pull influence with JD in important spots and I hit a lot of HRs! Xander was mainly no influence and got a lot of hits/variety. I turned Vasquez in to a reliable hitter by using push swing exclusively and squeezed so many singles through the infield. The game is so nuanced I just love going through a season and trying to improve my hitters with any tool at my disposal. For me the other big reason to use Directional is to stay out of the dreaded double play. I was at the lower end of hitting into double plays in the league for the first time last year. I managed to do this by using diagonal push or pull in a lot of double play situations. WarmWinds guide is a great resource for anyone interested in delving deeper into Directional.

Absolutely love this game and these sliders
Currently everything is as per the OP except:
      Baserunning Speed @ 5
OF outfield arm strength @ 6

Those are the ones that A&S is testing.

Same with me using the Yankees. Judge, Stanton and Sanchez hit a ton of homers for me by influencing their swings to pull and hit fly balls. Judge also led the league in doubles for me because I’d go the other way against the shift and slice liners down the right field line.
There’s also a high degree of satisfaction when you intentionally hit a sac fly with one of your weaker hitters by influencing a fly ball swing.

Jeez I’m tempted to play with that lineup Seriously though I know what you mean the push swing against the shift is a thing of beauty when it comes off! Just last night I started a 5 run rally with Mitch Moreland on 2 strikes with 2 outs and swerved a beauty through the gap that dropped into the left corner at Tropicana.

It always amazes me how many actual major leaguers don’t try hitting against the shift.

I just wish the CPU used the shift more, especially the slight shift. Having parity with the CPU is important to me, but it's impossible without them playing the shift.

I would guess that my star player would lose 50 points or more on their batting average if the CPU just shifted a little to the left. He hits way to many hard grounders down the baseline and through the 3B/SS gap for them not to.

I've even tried switching sides mid game and setting the shift for them, but as soon as I go back, they go straight up again. FML.

I’m seeing an alarming rate of simmed complete games and shutouts in the first month of my Dodgers Franchise. Does the Starter Stamina for the CPU have anything to do with this or is that simply for gameplay??

WW, do you happen know what triggers the CPU manager to shift. For instance is it linked to certain players or is it ratings based?

As far as I can tell, it's a combination of two factors: a particular team's predilection to shift, and the batters spray chart vs that handedness of pitcher.

I have a random created player who, when he first broke into the majors, got played straight up. After about a year, he got played to pull, and his average vs righties plummeted, so I adjusted my batting strategy with him. Now he gets played straight up with a righty pitching, but still to pull vs a lefty by all but the most stubborn of teams.

I do think some real life players have hard coded shifts though.

This has always been the problem for years. Ill give my opinion. Its possible to change sliders in order to get a realistic swing and miss % and somewhat competent CPU challenge, however once you go down that road you will never get the great balance necessary for the organic experience these sliders are offering. Its a trade off. I personally prefer the gameplay these sliders are giving me over losing myself in tinkering with sliders.

I’m with you man. That’s the only change I’ve made so far and I like it. This has always been an issue with the show. It’s fixable through editing pitchers. Checkout your starters k ratings. They’re all way too low and that’s where the problem lies I think.

Right?! I dont wanna highjack this thread on this topic, but the main message is "Dont lose yourself in sliders and ratings." I wasted an entire year of The Show doing that and never had fun playing the game. Just keep it simple and play.

This is probably the only sports title that we can do this with. Couldn’t come close to keeping sliders simple with an EA Sports game. And believe me, I’ve tried.
