Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

Hi Armour. I apologize in advance for asking you questions as I know you are busy and flooded with questions. But I have 2 more

I’m about to start my franchises. Are you pretty locked in with the sliders on the OP or are you still testing?

I use 30-team control. Everything is on auto for my cpu teams except for lineups/rotations, 40-man roster and injury management (MLB only). So if a cpu team signs a guy like Keuchel and assigns him to AAA, will the team eventually call him up to the majors and make corresponding moves or do I have to do that manually?

Thanks and thanks again for your sliders this year. Couldn’t play the game without them

To all those who have been talking about a lack of pitching strikeouts:

I'm not sure what mode you all are playing in, but for me, weirdly, the issue seemed to resolve when I started franchise mode.

I was playing exhibition games while waiting for Full Minors roster, and that's where I kept seeing the issue.

I struck out 12 on Opening Day in my Franchise, and don't remember exact numbers, but relatively high strikeouts in the next 3 games since.

Not sure if there's a reason for this or just a coincidence/anomaly, but just wanted to share that.

Fewer foul balls. That's my goal at least. Whether it means more swings and misses or more in-play batted balls is yet to be determined.

I have played 5 games in my brewers franchise so far, I have been averaging about 1 strikeout per inning. I can't complain about the strikeout numbers overall, however, they foul off some ridiculous pitches. I threw a slider away at least 2 or more feet down and away that was fouled off. Unless he dove out of the batters box, I don't think anyone could reach that pitch. Even pitchers have fouled off a ton of balls. (FWIW, I know this is still a small sample size, just offering my experiences so far.)

They will not cut a player from the 40 man to make room for him because you have that set to manual. So you will have add him tot he 40 MAN and make a cut.

I was initially peeved about ridiculous foul balls as well, but I was watching the Rangers play the As a few days ago and noticed Josh Phegley foul off a ridiculous breaking ball that was basically at his shoe tops.

These are major league hitters, sometimes they’re able to get bat to ball on pitches that seem impossible to even chop foul.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

I want to start off by thanking Armor for the tremendous work he does every year. I'm not only talking about his MLBTS sliders, but his sliders in every other sports game as well. I use his sliders for my base in pretty much every single sports game I play, so a big thank you for that.

Again this years base is really really good. Only one problem, even though we both get a year older every iteration, it seems like you get better at this game, while I somehow get worse.

My issue this year was that All Star was still too easy for me but Hall of Hame with these sliders was too hard. Below I'm going to list a few things I was having trouble with. If you're having trouble in these areas as well, but want to stay on HOF like I did, then give these tweaks a try.

                  Batting
Problem: I had trouble timing almost every single pitch, especially fastballs 95+. If a guy had a FB of 95+ then you could forget it. I was always way too late on the FB and way too early on the off speed. I was lucky if got "good" timing on maybe 10% of my swings. I was striking out a ton and never really walking.

Fix: Raised Human Timing to 6. This did two things for me. The first thing it did was the obvious, it helped my timing. I now get "good" timing on more like 35-45% of my swings. Trust me I still get plenty of way too early's and way too late's. I'm also still striking out 7-12 times per game (This also has alot do with being way more patient, and being willing to take a 3-2 pitch for strike 3, trying to draw walk). The second thing it helped with was my confidence. Before I knew my timing was going to be off, now I step up to the plate with confidence I'm going to put a good AB together.

Problem: 75% of the balls I hit hard are right at someone or chased down fairly easy. Even when I had good timing on a pitch right down the middle, more often than not it was an out. I also was rarely hitting the ball into the power alleys. All my XBH were either HR's or doubles that were bloopers down the line, not even line drives.

Fix: I raised solid hits back to default 5. For many years now I've had the belief that no one truly understands what the solid hits slider actually does. In my opinion, which could be totally wrong by the way, it's not solely a slider for how often you hit the ball hard. Rather it's more of a slider for when you do hit the ball hard, if it will be fall down for a hit. Aka why its called solid "hits", not solid "contact". If you want to make more solid contact than I believe you want to change the contact slider. The reason I say this is because with solid hits at 5 I still see a lot of the things I saw with the slider at 4. I'm still able to swing right through a pitch that's right down the middle if the guy has poor contact and/or vision. I also still hit weak ground balls and pop ups on good timing swings, on good pitches. The biggest difference on 5 compared to 4 is that those balls in the gaps are actually getting to the gaps now, and I'm actually hitting some hard line drives rather than a ton of looping singles over the Second Baseman and Short Stop. I'm also able to get solid hits on balls just outside of the zone with really good hitters only. It's so frustrating only being able to get a hit with someone like Freddie Freeman when the ball is very hittable. With Solid Hits at 5 you can really see those true offensive gems stand out.

                  Pitching
Problem: I couldn't strike out more than 8 guys on average and I was leaving a lot of meatballs over the middle of the plate. I was also having trouble throwing pitches in the dirt with a 2 strike count.

Fix: Raised Human Pitcher Control back to default 5. Now I cant actually hit my corners on a more consistent basis with good pitchers, and can now throw 2 strike pitches in the dirt on more consistent basis. Trust me I still serve up plenty of meatballs.

Problem: CPU wasn't dangerous enough when I left a hanger over the plate. With Human Pitcher Control at 4 I was throwing a ton of hittable pitches, but wasn't getting hit that hard. It was resulting in a lot of games where I gave up less than 4 runs but only would strike out maybe 6 guys. The CPU was putting everything in play but wasn't getting many hits. When I decided to move Human Control to 4 I knew I definitely needed to up the CPU offense.

Fix: Moved CPU Solid Hits back to default 5. The reason was less hittable pitches with with Human Control at 4, as well as all the same reasons I changed Human Solid hits to 5 (See Above).

Once again want to thank Armor for his tireless efforts with this game and every other. If you're having any of the same problems give my potential fixes a try. Or you could just try to get as good as Armor and alot of other guys on here (Good Luck ).

Anyone interested in seeing these tweaks in action, I'll be streaming on a test franchise for the next couple hours. Link Below.

Great tweaks and an outstanding post explaining. And like I always have said...use the base..play a ton of games, and tweak it to your skill level.

I am loving the elevated challenge of HOF this cycle. It is not 18's HOF level. 4th and 5th starters will be punished for hanging or leaving pitches up in the zone.

I hit 66 HR's with Aaron Judge last season on 18.....I do not think that will happen this season. I predict 40-45.

I will finally have a free evening tonight to sit down and play a bunch of games. My Middle School season is coming to a close tomorrow (as we go for a 8-2 record on the season and we are facing Team USA's #2 14U pitcher). Pumped for my boys tomorrow. We have a game plan to handle him (I hope lol).

Just will have 14U travel through June and then I am off for a long while. My son will be a Freshman this fall.....I will be watching from the other side once again....and I will miss the grind I have had of coaching for many many years...it was a heck of ride (will still probably do a Fall 16U tourney team for some fun) but I will enjoy just simply sitting back and relaxing and watching my son continue to grow as a young man and ball player.

So I will have a lot more time to play The Show 19 big time very very soon. In fact when Middle School is done that opens up 3 days a week for me. Right now I am going 6 days a week with coaching......yeah I am a little tired. LOL.

Ok so I'm confused. I created a 2nd profile. Assigned it to all the teams I'm not controlling yet it still says auto or manual for every team in franchise. Hitting square changes it for every team. Is it broken this year?

I just read in another forum that others are having this issue. Can anyone confirm or deny if it's broken in 19?

Assign the “CPU” profile to 29 teams and assign yours to your team.

When you advance into Franchise the Orioles comes up. Set all three tasks on that screen to manual, advance.

                            Trust me. Just do that.

Then when you get into franchise go check your profile and make sure it is all manual, then check the CPU profile and see if everything is set the way you want.

If not make your changes and apply.

                            Done.

                            Nothing is broken.
