Re: Armor & Sword & Marino’s MLB The Show 19 Classic/Directional Simulation Sliders

I very seldom post on these boards, however, I have to say this is the first time in a long a time I found a slider set that gets me excited to play a game again. At first glance, turning off the fielding/strike zone/visual aids etc... I was ready to ignore this set. Then I figured, nothing else was working for me why not give it a try?

I absolutely love the clean screen and the way the game plays now! I don't feel cheated by the CPU, I feel that each game tells it's own story. I have had my ace throw 3 good starts and get blown up in the 5th inning in the 4th. I've had my 5th starter consistently getting shelled, however when he finally throws a quality, 3 run 6 inning, start that itself feels rewarding. I've gone innings on offense with solid line drives to no avail but finally in the 8th or 9th inning was able to come through with some clutch hits. There's just something special about this slider set and if you are like me and think the idea of the whole set sounds crazy, please don't pass it up and give it a try first!

I would say if you play online, this set would change the way you play. I am an offline gamer (Franchise mode mainly) so I don't mind playing the game differently from most.

Thanks for breathing some life into the MLB The Show series for me!

I know this is not a massive sample size but I do feel like I need a slight uptick in challenge. The changes I HAVE made are I kept human solid hits at 4. Put human timing to 4 as well. Pitch speeds at 7 and 7. Other than that every single thing is identical to what you have in the OP. I’m even using the clean screen approach (amazing)

      Any help I’d greatly appreciate.

I have a smaller sample size this season but a similar experience. However, I’d definitely just say to keep playing. Reason being is because my firsts 3-4 games I was demolishing the ball. I even went into options to double check I was still on Hall of Fame. Just crushing the ball everywhere. Last couple games have been a different story. My bats have definitely cooled. I’m really hoping the same occurs with my strikeout totals. They are pretty far off from where they should be right now.

That’s encouraging! I’ll keep at this then and simply appreciate my hot start. I’ve been kinda following your strikeout issues, and I think those will come too. I’ve seen you in this forum for as long as I’ve been a member so I know you know your stuff. I had 10 strikeouts through 4 innings with Bauer this morning! I think those will come. And as silly as it sounds I’ll be waiting for my bats to cool off. Lol!

Has anyone else noticed since patch 1.07 (two patches back) that every time the CPU dives for a ball in the outfield it bounces right off their glove almost every time? I'm hoping its just a crazy coincidence as I obviously don't have a huge sample size. I'd say it's happened at least times 5 in a row. Again since it doesn't occur that often this was probably over a 20 game sample size. Hoping that no one else is seeing this and it's just a crazy fluke. Though this wouldn't be game breaking for me, I would miss the CPU being able to make diving plays in the outfield.

I was having the same Strikeout issue, couldn't get more than 5 with my starter and like 3 with my bullpen thru 6 games. Then bam, an 11K complete game from Nola on his next game against the Twins.

So it seems like it was just a factor of the CPU teams I was playing.

Ten K’s through four is pretty solid. Ha. I’ve struck out myself that many times, but never the CPU. I’ve had one game through the first 10 when I struck out a total of 10. But usually I’m around 4-6 a game. The problem is (especially starters) strikeout numbers and my overall team ranking. Which, again, I’ve never had the issue before. I’ve always been around 10 or better in team strikeouts. And yeah, I’m one of the longest standing members on this forum, been around a while... since 2003.

But like I’ve said, ultimately if other people are getting good strikeout numbers then I’ll just let it roll. I always have sliders very close to (if not exactly) where Armor is. I’m going to try to give it until the end of the month on k’s but I am still feeling like bumping CPU solid hits back to default (5) and moving CPU timing down one click (to 4) would likely address my strikeout issue.

                Those having strikeout problems:

Are you playing with vibration on or off?

I've played with it off since 17 but I'm gonna try to turn it on and see if it makes any difference.

Vibration off + ball marker off + strike zone off is probably the maximum pitching challenge.

That’s exactly how I play and absolutely love it. Always felt like keeping vibration on had me throwing into the zone too often

Ditto for me, it may not work for everyone but that rumble was such a mental block for me.

Yes I have played with it on and off and “on” works for me. I use the vibration as where I want my front foot to land (locate pitches).

I'm really confused/frustrated about Classic Pitching, specifically how long to hold X button. I've played this game for 10 years but always been a meter guy. But I like the concept/aesthetics of Classic Pitching but I'm getting shelled every game. Playing a Braves Franchise and it doesn't matter the pitcher but I'm giving up 15-20 hits a game and 8+ runs a game. I've read through the thread on classic pitching you posted but I've just seen different views regarding the timing of the vibration, etc. I've used your sliders with meter and pulse pitching for 19 and they are great. I have very competitive games avg 4-5 or so runs for each team. So that's my backup plan but it just bugs me I can't figure out Classic. My pitch strategy/location is the same for pulse, meter, and classic so maybe I need to change things up. Any thoughts/advice? Thanks

Questions for Armor or anyone who wants to answer. I'm a big NBA 2K franchise player and in that game I liked to keep the rosters accurate to real life the first season. I'm talking trades, lineups, injuries, etc. Is there a good way to do this in The Show that anyone can recommend? There's a lot more daily transactions in baseball and it seems like it could get overwhelming. With this game is is it better to not be anal about that stuff? Baseball isn't my main sport so I'm a little more willing to let it be fantasy if I'm gonna have to spend hours adjusting lineups and doing call-ups/send downs.

My opinion. You will kill yourself trying to maintain real life. I tried so many times for so many years I never enjoyed the game. Let the game be it's own universe. If you see a injury or hear of a trade and want to mimic it here and there, cool, but just let it play out. I've enjoyed the game so much more taking a more open look to it.

This is how I play as well. I run 30-team control as to avoid reality dumb trades by other teams. However, if there’s a trade in real life and it’s within a reasonable time frame of my season, I’ll make it happen on the game.

I think that's what I'm going to do. The micromanaging in 2K wears me out at times so I don't think I wanna do it in The Show. The game needs a trade approval option like 2K. That would really help when a dumb trade comes along.
