Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I’ll start out by saying that no I’m not a distinguished member of the Operation Sports community. However I have played this game since the day it was released 16 years ago. So I know what works for ME and I know what I’M looking for.
Josh, I’m happy that some of my results helped influence your decision. If I could influence my wife as easily I’d be really happy. What you saw was a nine game sample. What you didn’t see was the nearly 30 games I played for “testing” on default. Resulting in ridiculously low scoring games.I’m playing with two franchise’s as well. There seems to be a lot of flip flopping with the sliders this year with this particular set. Including ME stating going to default would be supported. But the reason I started using the “Maximizing player ratings “ slider set and have been for nearly three years is that they were “very close to default “ however in the test games and what the final scores don’t show is the actual in game scenarios. Such as...
Solid hits at default cause for ME and the cpu to have persistent rockets for outs, deep fly balls, and hard hit ground balls. Which results in lack of hit variety which we all know.
Pitcher control at default causes pitches to drift over the hart of the plate or on the corners cutting down dramatically on walks and pitch counts.
I think everyone has been saying how much more difficult this year’s game is compared to last year’s and previous versions. For ME it’s not that dramatic of a increase in difficulty. It’s actually welcomed. And it’s not so much of a challenge that I’m willing to give up on what’s been working for me for a few years. It might very well be that going from all star + to all star is enough to return to the standard sliders that have been used for nearly three years by this sets community. Or it just might mean you don’t hit, pitch or win/lose as much as usual. But count me out.
I’m going back to the set that was used in 19 and 20 and was described in this thread just a few weeks ago. If that’s not what this community is going to lean towards that’s perfectly fine with me. I can say for ME that I’ve been way to quick to make changes looking for permanent results. I’m not willing to drift away from what I’ve learned from my experiences while using this set.
I also get a good variety of hard and soft hits, towering HRs and flyballs and solid and bloop hits and outs.
So although my sliders are slightly different from Josh and my level is slightly higher, my point is my sliders are pretty close to default. The gameplay out of the box this year is the best ever.
I think the key is to be patient at the plate. Look for your pitch in the place you want it..keyhole... and don't be afraid to take a strike or two. For pitching, particularly with the big boppers, aim outside the strike zone or on the corners. The pitches really move in the game this year. You will be surprised how well you can pitch that way (if you have a good pitcher) and how few hard hits the CPU will get. I have limited CPU to as few as 1 perfect-perfect in a game, and yes it went a long way...lol.
Good luck!Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
The Reds bullpen is brutal. After 4 games, we are 2-2 with 4 blown saves. It is nice to get some hits with Allstar.
Game 1 vs Cards: Won 3-2 - bullpen blew a 2-0 lead in the 7th. Reds scored a run in the 7th to take the lead for good.
Game 2 vs Cards: Loss 3-2 - had a 2-1 lead in the 9th inning and Doolittle blew the lead and gave up 2 runs.
Game 3 vs Cards: Won 10-9 - had a 9-5 lead in the 9th inning. Romano gave up 5 hits in a row to make it a 9-7 game with a runner on 2nd. Brought in Doolittle and he blew the save. We won it with a 2 out game winning single in the 10th.
Game 4 vs Pirates: Loss 3-2 - had a 2-0 lead in the 9th and Sims blew the save. They won it with a 2 out single in the 10th.
Reds really need to get their bullpen figured out. Osuna and Greene is available but don’t want to go that route yet.Follow me on Twitch

I'm currently there too. All Star+ in pitching and veteran at hitting (needless to say I'm not a very good hitter yet) I'm planning to just play it out and figured it'll even itself out soon enough

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 21 Sliders
I went completely against the grain (relative to my earlier "short list") in my team selection. Going with the Miami Marlins. I love their mix of vets and young players and feel like they can contend in season 1 (without being an obvious slam-dunk playoff team).
Also switched back to my normal camera (retro) for hitting and decided to ride-out AS+ (default) with 6/6 pitch speed. Played the opening day game vs Tampa last night; a 5-4 loss in the 11th. I'll be incredibly curious to see how things shake out with this team.
I doubt I play a ton for a bit with the Mass Effect remaster coming tomorrow; but I'm going to eventually dive into this one.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

That’s pretty funny Josh. When I did my “test franchise” I just randomly picked the Marlins. After playing a handful of games with them I fell in love. I love how their lineup is solid 1-9 but no one special, you really have to grind out some good at bats. I also finished game 1 last night against TB. It was an 8-6 win with TB putting some pressure on us late. It was probably the best game I’ve ever played in MLBTS on any years version. It just felt like anything could happen at any moment. There was so much traffic on the base for both teams, every pitch truly mattered.Last edited by tc020791; 05-13-2021, 09:39 AM.Comment

I love the Miami pitching staff. Chisholm of course and then you got Bleday waiting in the minors
