Re: The "positive little things" thread

      Well,
Just finished one of the best games I've ever played on in any genre.

This game plays so well and the games are extremely competitive. This game captures the big moment better than any game has to this point. The intensity of going against Eric Gagne with two runners on and the crowd going wild is perfect. I ended up getting a double off him to knock home two runs because I worked the count and got him "tense".

Then, because my manager got ejected for argueing a call, i was stuck with Ramiro mendoza to try and save the game. They got hits and drove a run in to make it 5-4. Man on 2nd and third with 1 out. I walk the batter to load them up to get a chance at the double play. Morgan comments that it was the right thing to do.

Going against Melvin Mora, he doesn't bite on the first two offerings and Mendoza is falling apart on the mound with the intensity of the moment. He somehow musters up enough composure to induce a sinker ball grounder to 2nd base. My 2nd baseman runs to the bag, avoids the takout slide and throws the runner out to win the game!

Simply awesome. This game is so friggin' good it is not even funny. Those who gave up on it are stupid.

        Couple more awesome things:

-Tons of year-end awards: MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, Gold Gloves, and Silver Sluggers. Now if only it had Manager of the Year, heh.
-The really classic unis are awesome, complete with silly puffy pants.

          - I know this was in the game last year, but I just finalized all of my Custom Soundtrack things (for menus, in-game situations, and player intros), and it's really making everything feel very authentic when playing.

          - Player morale is very well done. I also like the Team Meetings that you can call, and the ways that it varies between the players. For instance, this just may be coincidence, but I had Winn start and bat leadoff every game for about 2 weeks, and he was batting about .230. I benched him three straight games, and his morale started to drop in the Overall, Role, and Manager categories. Then I called a team meeting about how I needed some players to step their games up. Winn's morale shot up more, saying how the meeting was needed. His average is now around .290.

          - Rain delays, fanmail questions, home run innings, trivia questions, clutch situations, day progression, possible pickoffs, player collisions, baseburner mode very well redefined (although players pop up bunts way too much), etc.

          - And then the four: Payoff Pitching, Swing Stick, Inside Edge, and Momentum!

            Surprise/delightful finding of the day:

While playing the game, pause and go to "Game Summary", then "Game History". Inning by innings, they give a short description of the each play. You can L trigger or R trigger to move backward or forward of each innings.
Click on one of the described plays(I usually click on scored plays), and you can watch the replay of that play! Any angle, zoomed in, out, moved further or inward, rotated, everything you'd get from normal replays.

I was shocked to find this gem. I found the in-game save feature the other day(YES!), I'm sure there are more hidden fun things in the game that I haven't found yet. This game is *CHOCK-FULL* of features that can easily go unnoticed..

Awesome find Alai! I knew about the game summary thing, it reminded me of ESPN.com and MLB.com's "Gamecast" type of things. I didn't know you could actually watch every play of the game though, sweet. Just another reason why I'm glad I got this for Xbox instead of PS2.

I've played about 25 games so far and am STILL hearing new commentary! Best commentary I've heard in a game.

                  I agree.

I was amazed when i was pitching and I changed the TV to watch a real game for a bit, when I clicked back to the game, Morgan was in the middle of a long lesson on the infield fly rule and the intricacies of it.

                  I was like, "damn."

Om my GOD I almost choked on my water.Jistic I like this game and will probably get the 360 version, but the commentary is a joke.I just love hearing that my hitter didn't have any home runs last year. Then two seconds later Miller says he didn't have any rbi's last season.Yeah Ok as AROD walks to the plate. They say it for just about every batter and it does get annoying.

The show's commentary kills this game .I actually think the commentary took a step back this year on the xbox. Most of the lines were from last years version, haven't realy hear anything new.

Yes it does stuff wrong no questions. But the positives WAY outnumber the negatives. To me I'd rather hear the mistakes and get all of the other great varied commentary than hearing the same 10 lines over and over.

If I'm not mistaken, in exibition games you'll hear the 0HR &ORBI comment, but if you go into Season or Franchise that doesn't happen. I actually think they quote last year stats. Confirmation por favor....

Same thing in franchise mode. They don't state what the 2005 numbers were. I'm curious to see what they say when I get to the second year of my franchise. If they quote the previous year's numbers, I will be happy. I might just sim a franchise and see.

Last year they had it fine. Don't know why that happens this year.

It's not a problem on Miller's and Morgan's part, marino13. I can't say that it detracts from their awesome commentary, as I'm sure (well, I hope) that they announce correct statistics in following years in your franchise.

This is wierd. I'll have to pay attention to it next time I play, but so far I haven't heard them say the incorrect stats. I know when Andruw Jones came up they mentioned his 51 HR's, and that he led the Majors in that and the NL in RBI's.
