yeah, great post shogun! you gotta think like a real hitter...working the counts is key. I actually drew 6 walks in a game i played today, the most i've ever had. it takes GREAT patience to sit back and get YOUR pitch, but they'll throw it.

also, be sure to foul off pitches you don't want. you gotta be able to read the pitches, but the more you play the more you'll get the movements down. i still struggle mightily with sliders - most impossible pitch for me to hit. but when you pull one that's low and inside over the fence you'll feel pretty good...

the patience part is the toughest for me. i do draw a walk of two each game but that is after i swung at every pitch for an inning or three. sometimes it feels like "i have to go to bed so i need to finish this game in a half hour". i need to remember i can save the game.

i am in a slump right now scoring runs but i know it is my own fault because i lack patience. i am not hitting a lot of HRs right now, but i think those will come in bunches like real life.

I can't play this game more than 1 at a time. That is what I love about it. Hockey, I can rattle off 8 games in a row, no questions asked.

Baseball, to play the correct way, you have to sit down with patience and battle. I think I drew 5 walks last night in my game vs the computer. Huge too, I am .5 out with only 7 games to go.

It was 6-4 me in the top 9th (I was away) and I rattled off a hit, drew 2 walks from a reliever that was nibbling, but some of the pitches were CLOSE!!!!! Bases loaded, struck out, pinch hit for pitcher and popped up. Then Ricky Weeks hit one down the right field line scoring 3 but he got hosed at 3rd.

We won 9-4. But what a game. As much as I wanted to play again I knew that I'd be swinging at everything.

Quote from my old college hitting coach that is so true in real life and in this game, "IT'S HARD TO HIT A BAD BALL GOOD"

yeah, slumps happen. i went through a stretch a week ago where it was like i forgot how to pitch. was getting SHELLED. but i let the game sit for a day and when i started up again, i took my time and focused more on individual matchups.

played a game last night - astros (cpu) at reds (me) using yesterday's actual lineups. it was 0-0 in the 8th when the astros got 2 runs. bottom of 9th i got 3 runs off Melancon for the win. i had 13 hits in that game, but seemed like each time i had guys in scoring position my worst batter would be up. LOL!! So keep with it...this is a REALLY FUN GAME!!!!

like shogun, i can only play one game a night.

in my three game vs the pads, i lost 1-0, won the next 3-0 (1 hitter using Cueto) and lost the next 4-0 (1 hit by SD).

i thing i am always pushing up on the right stick.

one thing i am still not totally sure on with hitting:

is the classic like the old MVP hitting system or something else? i don't quite get the way it works.

classic hitting is NOT right stick... it is ONE BUTTON hitting. there is no "contact" swing or "power" swing, but rather timing up your reflexes by using (360) the green A button. the right stick does nothing. There are sliders out there for "hit stick" hitting, but mine are not for that. you may use the left stick for directional purposes, but i do not use it. just wanted to clarify...

NOTE: my point is NOT to say that one is "better" than the other, only to state that I use the classic / one button hitting option.

I use these sliders with Right Stick Swing. I love it. I play as the Brewers (I am from Boston and sick of using the Red Sox so somehow the Brewers are my new baby) and with:

Power Hitters I use power swing, more often than not, unless I really need to move the ball and can't risk the strikeout.

Moderate Hitters I use power swing in hitters counts, 2-0, 3-1, 3-0 (if I get a 4 corners fastball, which is what I call a pitch in which the whole strike zone lights up)

Contact / Weaker hitters I 90 percent of the time use Contact Swing. But you gotta get a good pitch to hit and you can't miss it.

But I do find it like 05. Which is like real life. You contact an inside pitch in front of home plate.

An outside pitch behind the front of home plate.

Middle pitch on the top of home plate.

Anything off of those spots, much like real life, will result in less chance of a hit.

thank you very much. i was wrong with my post. i use the left stick for directional.

about to play a game. i will try everything now.

had to stop after three innings, but started the game with a walk, a double and then a 3 run HR.

gave up one HR myself and then got another run on a two singles, ground into double play and then an RBI single.

thanks guys for the help and the sliders and rosters mkharsh.

this game is seriously fun. i love the announcing and the feel you really are in a franchise.

when using classic hitting, do you need to direct the hit at all? or is just clicking A button when necessary?

I personally do NOT use directional hitting, but you can if you'd like. What I LOVE about 2K11 is the bat-on-ball physics. There are times when I try to pull a pitch and there are times when I try to slow down my timing to go opposite field. I don't use the directional stick because I like the naturalness of the gameplay itself... But do as you like!

had to bump outfield speed to 45 for both other than that these sliders are 100% perfect thanks man

yeah, that's one of those sliders that I wish had a 42.5

problem with bumping it up is that you start to see fewer doubles or even triples.

i haven't posted any details lately because they are really irrelevant at this point, but i played some insanely FUN games lately that have been the sweaty palm variety. the more I play this game the more I really enjoy it...

Really? I have mine set at 30 and am still seeing a very realistic number of doubles. I shift the OF and INF a lot though, so that's part of it. Anything higher than 40, the OF is unrealistically fast; they cover way too much ground. I play with the Cards and at 40, Lance Berkman gets to a lot of balls he has no business getting to. JMHO

I think I have my OF speed set to either 30 or 35 as well. What a difference between outfielders. I have a stud defensive centerfielder and he catches everything.HOwever, when I give him a day off, doubles galore. Love it!
