    Re: Official Slider Discussion

    thanks a lot wildcat,

i have in fact tweaked the sliders a bit, mostly in regards to cpu hitting. my main issue was their uinwillingness to take a walk, and also i wanted them to hit the ball harder. what i did was to inversely tweak the hitting sliders. basically i gradually lowered hitting skill and raised power. i wanted them to strike out a little more. here are the adjustments:

    CPU Hitting Skill: 53
    Power: 57
    Contact: 50
    Take Ball Behind: 53

I also lowered CPU Change Pitch Speed to 70, not to make it easier, it just makes them throw more fastballs, which has made it harder overall. Also raised Throw Strike Behind to 53, I was getting too many easy walks.

One other thing, I put injuries back to 50, I was having way too many games where the starter would go out with a blister or something, thus ruining my good pitching matchup. Even at 50, I still get about an injury per game.

I'm in the playoffs now and just had a 16 inning battle with the red sox that I won 9-6. In the 13th I went up 6-3 and I blew it. I struck out 25 times, which was bad.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback. I'm surprised more people haven't tried my sliders, they're working great for me.

      Re: Official Slider Discussion

Dork - I tried out your sliders last night (was using the ones I posted a page or so before). I use Boston and I was against TB in my Franchise. Schilling vs. Abbot (??).

Anyhow, just a few thoughts. I had been getting a lot of 2-1 or 3-1 games in the past with my sliders, but I was always winning and found my record to be 17-4. So I tried yours.

I won 16-2. I had 5 HR's (typically I get 1/2 per game) and Schilling got the CG giving up 4 hits and 4 K's. One thing I noticed was that the CPU pitcher with your sliders throw a lot more strikes. I was able to tee off a little more than I had in past games.

I wasn't able to K the CPU as much as I'd like to with Schilling, but one game isn't a good indication. I throw at corners in and out and up and down all game, but the CPU didn't chase much. I'm not sure how to fix this (even with my intial sliders) by getting enough K's, but also having the CPU knock my starters around a bit.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. I'm going to play another game tonight with them and see how that turns out. I might've just had one of those breakout games that happens every once in a while. 1 game certainly isn't a large enough scope to base a good opinion on....

            joeboo,

striking out the cpu is tough with my sliders, but you might find that you'll get them out on pitches you really didn't think they would swing at, i've begun to really re-think my strategy and so far i'm still averaging around 1 k per inning, and with rivera yestrday i struck out the side, you also have to be willing to give up walks, i throw a ball on 3-2 counts often, and half the time they whiff, if you want to change anything i would suggest lowering "Take Ball Behind" a notch at a time until you are comfortable with how the CPU is hitting, the major complaint people have with tough sliders like these is that the CPU batters don't "chase" enough, but after watching like 600 baseball games in my life, you don't see a lot of batters swing at bad pitches, sure it happens but most strikeouts are on balls that are swung at that are in the strike zone, not out, and it's either because it was some heat, a good breaking ball, or the pitcher changed up on the batter, and a lot of strikeouts are called, strikeouts do not generally happen by chasing bad pitches

as for your homeruns, it all depends, like i said in my slider posting, human power is really up to the user, i like 45, but you may be a much better hitter than i am, and if you get to a pitcher early on and wreck his confidence you'll crush him

i get good challenge with these sliders, and a lot of games i don't even hit a single homerun, by the way do you have Confidence on? these sliders are meant to be played with confidence on, i specifically made them to balance some of the drastic effect confidence can have on the game

oh, and it's important you lower Change Speeds to 70 for CPU pitching, ever since I did that, hitting became a lot tougher for me

Dork - No I actually don't have confidence on. I'll try turning it on. I turned it off when I first got the game (since I was really bad and everyone had low confidence) and just never turned it back on. I'll have to try that tonight...

Dork - Alright, I tried out the game with confidence on. I totally forgot about that feature. It definately adds a little something extra to the game. Anyhow I used your same sliders and had a real good game (won 3-0 against TB).

It was 1-0 most of the game except David Ortiz hit a 2 run HR in the 8th because he was 3-3 in the game and his confidence was sky high. It was a real good game.

I guess my other blowout was just a good offensive game for me or a bad pitching performance by the CPU or due to the confidence meter being turned off. Anyhow off to play a few more.....

                              good to hear it joeboo,

i went into total tweaking mode today with the cpu batting sliders because i have some issues

it definitely is too hard to strike out the CPU batters with my sliders and i also gave them too much power

also, the CPU does not hit enough foul balls and i don't know what sliders affect this, they put everything in play unless it's a changeup which they occasionally foul off

anyway, i hope to have a new set soon because right now it just doesn't feel dead on, but it's close

also, i should have asked you what your game settings are, for example:

do you use the one-button swing or the one with the "power" swing? i use one-button, and do you use true-aim? cause these are specifically for true-aim batting

i also have the strike zone off but i have the pitch cursor on, and i absolutely NEVER look at the batter's hot and cold zones, it's cheesy in my opinion, it's easy to ignore cause it's off to the side anyways

also make sure BOTH teams are set to Legend difficulty by hitting X in the team options menu

anyway, i can't do any more testing today, i had the day off and i wasted it playing ESPN baseball, now i have to watch the yankees beat the stuffing out of the mariners, although so far it's not going good, then i'm off to play Rainbow Six until the sun comes up

another thing about David Ortiz, you're better off walking him if he's having a good game

some people may not like the confidence meter but i love it, it really is like real baseball sometimes, there's usually one guy that has a really good game at the plate most of the time and that's the difference in the game, the exception to this is when there's like a 15-2 score, which means everybody had a good game, but then there's always that guy in the lineup who didn't get a single hit the whole night, his confidence was down
