Re: More Barry Bonds steroids stuff on ESPN radia right now
Bonds should go ahead and change his name to "Asterisk".
Looks like this embarassing blemish on the game will finally be put in his place.
It actually says in the book that Bonds had people pay AIDS patients for their steroids. Wow.Comment

Originally posted by USF11Nobody brings up that point. STERIOIDS WERE ILLEGAL before testing. Meaning having them is crime. Is murder a bannable offense in baseball yet? Liberlism is a mental diease. Try to justfiy everything in the name of compassion. Sickening
The differance in that there was a clear, pre-existing rule in baseball that any betting on the game would lead to to a lifetime ban. Steroids were not banned by the MLB so technically they cannot deny Bonds admission to the HOF on that basis. Yes they were illegal in the United States as a controlled substance. If you're going to start denying admission to the HOF based on crimes which have been comitted or on the basis of having/using a controlled substance there are a number of guys who should be taken out. Of course steroids are a different matter because they enchance performance, but if you look at Barry's numbers before he started using they're clearly HOF worthy. I just dont think there's a solid basis here for denying him admission to the hall.
My hope is that the writers will take a stance and not vote him in, however I dont think that's going to happen."Darth Vader doesn't cry, Peter."

Originally posted by joeboo- There was an excerpt from the book where they talked about how Bonds came to the park one day during the Mac/Sosa HR chase. They roped off the batting cage area when McGwire was hitting because the media circus was nuts (you'll know exactly what I mean if you ever saw Mac hit BP during that time).
Anyhow, Bonds asked what it was all about. They told him and he replied "Not in my house" and then stormed over to the ropes and tore them down.
I thought Barry didn't care what other people did and thought? What a spoiled little baby."Darth Vader doesn't cry, Peter."

Originally posted by BGarrett7To be fair, I don't think it ever says Bonds had people buy steroids from AIDS patients, but that it said Greg Anderson used to do that before he came back into contact with Barry. Now, that's not saying that Anderson didn't acquire some of Bonds roids from AIDS patients, but I don't think in the write-ups on SI.com it explicitly states that.Comment

Originally posted by DGetzHis frustration is understandable. For example: imagine you're one of the smartest kids in the class and these two other kids start scoring way above and beyond you and have all sorts of praise and awards lauded on them, but you know they're only doing so well because they're cheating, wouldn't you resent them? However just becaue his resentment and frustration are understandable it doesnt excuse him throwing a hissy fit temper tantrum.
To be honest, I probably wouldn't care if someone else was cheating in a class I was in. I saw it in HS and college and it didn't bother me then. I just worried about what I had to take care of and let the chips fall in place.Comment

I've been listening to WEEI all day and they've been talking about this quite a bit with callers. The funniest thing I find about the Bonds supporters is that 90% of them didn't even read the SI article or any associated information but they'll still defend him.Comment

That makes sense because I dont understand how anyone could respect or defeing Bonds as either a baseball player or decent person after reading that article. As for the other 10% . . . I'm curious as to what exactly their logic was for still defending the man.
If anyone is interested CNNSI has a photo gallery up documenting Bonds through his career and it shows how much bigger he got so much quicker after starting the roids: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/mul...e.html?cnn=yesLast edited by DGetz; 03-08-2006, 01:12 PM."Darth Vader doesn't cry, Peter."

paraphrased quotes:
"This is credible information and should be taken very seriously"
"He's basically flipping off the world, it's utter defiance"
"Bonds and the Giants front office declined to be interviewed for the book"
"If he can stay off the DL, we'll see the same defiant Bonds as always"
