Better to just turn off the tv, becasue if there is money involved there will be cheating. Some of you need to take a few steps back, and put this into perspective.

Am i wrong to think that these espn reporters are idiots? Dont get me wrong i think he did/does steroids but so doesnt alot of people. Its not like he failed a drug test, or just came out of nowhere skill wise. Just because you take steroids doesnt mean you will be good. Look at all the scrubs that got caught. I just think its funny how someone can say that there not voting for a player just because of a book that two reports wrote! Hewas a hall a famer never the less and i just think its dumb how they are making such statements over a book.

Was Bonds a very, very good player before the offseason of '98? Without a doubt. Well on his way to a Hall of Fame career.
But that's where everything changes.
When he injected himself, took growth hormones, applied the Cream, etc... He became a cheater. Plain and simple. There are court documents, hard evidence, and statements by Bonds himself which prove this.
And all those who happened to take steroids as well, but not have the same success? Still cheaters. I don't care whether they went out and hit 50 homers or none at all... They used illegal substances in hopes of improving their abilities.
Look, here is an analogy for you: Let's say that I've got a huge test coming up. Overall, I've done relatively well in the class, but there are still those who are performing better than myself. So, along with my studying for the test in question, I come up with an elaborate scheme to cheat on the test and try to make myself appear better than those who were already doing better than me. Come test day, I end up getting caught. When the professor goes back and grades my test, do you think that my academic integrity will come into question regardless of whether I scored a 100 on the test, or a 38? I was caught cheating. It's pretty cut and dry. My achievements, or lack there of, are irrelevant to this fact.Comment

Bonds once said that steriods can't increase your hand eye coordination or ability to hit the ball. This might be true but mass+speed=power. So take a guy that routinely hits .300 and then give him better bat speed and add on 40 lbs of muscle. Those balls that made it to the warning track or 20 feet short are now going over by 40 feet.
And BGarrett7, you're right. Some people will still look at Barry like he's a saint no matter what. I think you could find a video showing him injecting every illegal substance into his ***, with him narrating it, and they would still say "I don't beleive it", or "this doesn't prove anything".
People care about Bonds over the lesser scrubs or bums because he was already a superstar and becaue he's going after the greatest sports record of all time!.
This guy won't make the HOF and he shouldn't. It's times like these I'm glad the writers have as much power as they do. Finally they can get back at him for his stuck up, self centered, posh, silver spoon attitude he's shown so many people his whole life.Comment

SI.com: Will you cast a vote for Bonds on your Hall of Fame ballot?
Verducci: No. Not in any good conscience could I vote for someone who used performance-enhancing drugs for so many years. We're not going to have to vote on Bonds for at least five or six years, and I'm certainly open to any new information that is presented until then, but with the evidence we have now, there is no way I could vote for him.
For those who argue that Bonds was a Hall of Fame-quality player before he started using drugs, I don't think in baseball you can build up a resume to a lofty point and then do anything you want to the game. Cheating the game is nothing that can be forgiven, whether it happens in your first year of baseball or your last year, like with Rafael Palmeiro. The 411 home runs, which is what Bonds had through 1998, don't give you carte blanche to do anything you want in baseball, including being a drug cheat.Comment

Also, while numbers don't tell the whole story, in this case they're pretty compelling. Anybody who thinks steroids didn't have a very significant effect on his performance is being extremely naive. Nobody improves this much at 34 years old.
Bonds before 1998 (the year the SI piece labels the beginning of his steroid usage):
.288/.411/.551, 374 HRs (6069 ABs)
after '98:
.323/.506/.730, 334 HRs (3071 ABs)Comment
