Jayson Stark is reporting that the Nats are interested on sending Soriano to to the Mariners for a package centered around prospect Adam Jones."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

I like Jones. I like Soriano. And I like Meche. We would have to include at least 2 of the these guys in the deal and its absolutely not worth at all.Comment

Originally posted by CWood2Ravech actually said "Jake Peavy...?", but I think he was being sarcastic. I don't see how any package the Sox put together could reap Peavy, unless Lester and Lowell were the base with more involved. Even then I couldn't see him getting traded, so I hope the injury to Wakefield doesn't force us into getting another arm for the sake of an arm."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
I don't think there is anything to the Lowell to San Diego rumors. While the Padres need a Third Baseman they have no pitching to give and i can't see the Red Sox giving Lowell away unless Theo has something else up his sleeve.
Buster Olney (man do i miss Peter Gammons) reported this rumor and also reported that the Mets are considering trading Lastings Milledge to the Phillies for Bobby Abreu. If the Mets wouldn't part with Milledge for Manny Ramirez why the hell would they part with him for Abreu !?!.
The Luis Gonzalez era may be coming to an end in Arizona. Gonzalez was benched for tonights game against the Dodgers in favor of rookie Carlos Quentin, Quentin did not disapoint going 1-4 with a 2 run HR. Diamondbacks Manager Bob Melvin said "It's going to be a one day thing" and "Gonzo will be back out there tomorrow". Gonzalez does not see it that way saying "the writings on the wall". Gonzalez is in the final year of a three year contract and it is unlikely the team will pick up his $10 million dollar option for next season.
If Gonzalez does become available i would expect to see the Cardinals take a chance on him. A move to St.Louis revitalized Larry Walker and could do the same for Gonzalez.Comment

Originally posted by JJLinnA new rumor in the Baltimore Sun is Rodrigo Lopez and a mid-level prospect to the Phillies for Abreu or Burrell. The Sun says money is the hangup, while Jim Duquette said on a radio station it was the no-trade clause.
I swear, if Peter Angelos f*cks this up because of money concerns, I'm done with baseball.
The Phillies and Orioles are discussing a deal centered around leftfielder Pat Burrell and righthander Rodrigo Lopez, and one high-ranking official involved in the talks believes it will get done, despite the fact that Burrell has a full no-trade clause.
The Phillies are believed to be interested in trading only one of their corner outfielders, meaning that Abreu will likely be off the market once the trade is completed.
That's from Newsday today. Washington Post says Lopez could be gone soon.
And as far as the Orioles being "buyers", just because they're in 4th doesn't mean they can't improve the team for the future. A league average pitcher and some cash for a good LF entering his prime? Yeah, they should pass because they're in 4th.Comment

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
rumored trade:
Dontrelle Willis to the Cardinals for Anthony Reyes, Colby Rasmus (top position prospect, CF), Chris Duncan, and Cody Haether (good prospect...probably would be a 4th OF.)
this is from Bernie Mikilus from the Post-Dispatch. I think it was in Wednesday or Thursday's paper.Comment

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
Listening to WNST with some O's trade talk. Seems the O's had 2 deals completed already (no teams or players were named) but by the time Angelos could approve them the other teams had pulled the deal because of waiting on Angelos. Said that about half a dozen teams in MLB won't even talk to the O's because of Angelos.Comment
