    Torre in Tampa

Saw on ESPN.com that the NY Post is reporting that Torre is in tampa to meet face to face with Yankee's officials.

Any guesses as to what this means?

    He's going to re-sign.

George doesn't have the guts to get rid of him, that's why I lauged at his "ultimatium". It was such an empty threat.

Yep, he's probably going down there to work out the deals on a new contract. They wouldn't ask him to come down if they didn't want to offer him a new contract.

Apparently it's a one year deal with a second year team option.

I bet they resign him, 2 years 4.7 million or something like that.

Interesting. Any chance they could make an announcement today?

Honestly, I think any manager who steps in Torre's shoes next year is going to have a brutal year. The team really seems like it needs a one year reboot where some of the young guys start to take over for the old guard and subjecting a new manager to that really isn't ideal. The guy could pretty much guarantee he wouldn't be around for 2009. Torre is a little bit similar to Francona in that while he's not perfect by any stretch he's definitely above average and tends not to be recognized it because there's just so much media scrutiny sometimes. That and I don't know who could be found to replace him... I don't see La Rusa really wanting the job.

Truer words were never spoken. He'll be back. I think he will retire when he's done with the Yanks. Hopefully he'll be back along with Mo, Arod, and Bobby Abreu (in a short term deal).

That wasn't what I was expecting to hear with this conference call.

Nice report, Outside the Lines. For the last 10 minutes they've been saying that he'll be returning and accepted the offer.
