    Re: Torre in Tampa

Joe Torre probably felt disrespected when he received that semi-serious threat of getting fired from a week or so ago, and he likely didn't want to come back at that point. Torre didn't do or say anything about his thoughts about it, so no one really knew. Then he waited until he could say "no" right in George Steinbrenner's face to rub it in, LOL. Go Torre! Now that's how you go out in style.

That's what Steinbrenner get for trying to test someone's manhood and take away his dignity with threats.

Not surprising. Steinbrenner has indirectly been a pompous *** to him. This is sort of a "PWN3D" on Steinbrenner's impending permanent leave from the Yankees, which is a sadistic truth.

Na Na na. Hey Hey Hey. Goodbye.

Joyous day for Yankee fans that are sick of the complacency that Torre has brought to the Yankees. Don't get me wrong, he's a HOF manager, but sometimes you need to make change for sake of change. After all, how many managers coach for 12 years? Can't think of many.

                  Late breaking news:

Torre just signed with the Mets to replace Rickey Henderson as their first base coach, FOR $530,000/yr!!!

                    Re: Torre in Tampa

Boy do I feel like an *******. I was listening to WFAN all afternoon and I had to stop in and see a client on my home from work. Right as I'm getting out of my car I hear Russo read the initial statement that Torre was coming back.

So I go into this office where the two owners are big time Yankee fans. So I tell 'em I just heard that Torre is back for a year extension with a team option for '09. They were excited as hell.

So then I get back into my car and the first words I hear are, "Again, the shocking words from Tampa, Joe Torre has rejected the Yankees' offer."

Moving on, good for Joe for rejecting this offer. 12 straight years in the postseason and they ask you to take a paycut and they can't even give him a 2-year deal to guarantee him one year in the new stadium. I'm glad you showed some balls Joe.

A-Rod is the least of the 3 affected by Torre most likely. I don't know where you get the idea that any of the 3 are more likely than not to leave.

And I doubt this had anything to do with Steinbrenner. Chances are most of the reports about Steinbrenner's condition are true, I doubt Joe takes anything he says to seriously.

I think the Yankees were pretty much split on getting rid of Torre or not, so they were only willing to go with a one year deal. If he accepts, he's back, if not, at least they can say they tried and didn't look bad. And I don't think Torre wants to only have a one year deal and then have to go through all of this again next year.

It is pretty comical. Dealing with the egos, media, etc. IN NEW YORK, winning 6 pennants and taking his team to the playoffs every year. Oh and dealing with a d-bag like Steinbrenner while getting a lowball offer for one-year this next season. Its pretty hilarious actually.

Good for Torre. He needs a long overdue break from New York.

I just said I think Rivera and Posada will be back. I don't think A-rod will be back because he will most likely opt out of his contract.

                                Re: Torre in Tampa

It's sad to see him go considering what he did as manager of this team but I'm also relieved.

I still believe it was time for the Yanks to move on and I feel Mo's comments were a perfect example of why. I think the regulars have become complacent with him in the dugout and that's why I want Girardi in there. But that's me.

I think Joe Torre did a great thing for his ego to turn down the offer despite it still having the highest monetary value in the league with incentives that could have pushed it above his pay last season. I can't see how the Yanks disrespected him with an offer like that.

Considering officials were split on him returning likely want to begin the Mattingly era as soon as possible, I can't see how Torre could have expected anything longer than a two year deal.
