Tell that to the Yankees front office since the team hasn't been profitable in 4 years.

I am trying to find a legit link but the Red Sox will add Ryan Kalish to their offer for Johan. He is 19 yr old outfield prospect.

edit: here is the link http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/...inter_meetings

info is coming from Peter Gammons

Lester will be nothing more than a #3 or #4 pitcher. Why does everyone know this but them? These others bums in the Red Sox deal had "so what?" years in the minors, hald of them wont even be ready for another couple years.

Ellsbury is one thing, at least he has a great future, but the Twins are foolish to take this deal. I still dont think it will happen with thse four. Ellsbury will be included if something goes down.

No it's not. If the budget was unlimited, Beltran would be in centerfield right now. It looks like next year is going to have a really good free agent class. Yankees are probably going to make a big splash next offseason and there are a lot of different ways they can go.

Latest on the Johan Santana trade front via ESPN.com

            4:49 p.m., from Jayson Stark
            • The Twins and Angels continue to talk about a Johan Santana trade. Many of the same players mentioned in the Miguel Cabrera sweepstakes -- Howie Kendrick, Brandan Wood, Nick Adenhart, and possibly Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits -- would be included in a package for Santana.

            • It is believed that the Angels haven't talked with the Marlins since last night, and Miguel Cabrera is off their radar screen -- at least for now.
            3:28 p.m., from Peter Gammons
            • The Twins and Red Sox could be getting closer to finalizing a Johan Santana deal. Boston has sweetened its offer by adding a fifth player to the trade proposal -- outfield prospect Ryan Kalish, a ninth-round draft pick in 2006 out of Red Bank Catholic High School (Shrewsbury, N.J.).

If Johan Santana would waive his no-trade clause to the Los Angeles Angels, we could get a pretty good deal out of this. If Jayson Stark's reports are accurate, acquiring those players mentioned above would really feel some holes for the Twins. Howie Kendrick would take right over as our starting second baseman, that is if he can stay healthy. Adding Brandon Wood would feel our biggest need at third base (or has he made a complete switch to being a SS?). Wood may not be ready this season, but he does have a huge upside. Plus he is a power hitter, which is what were lacking in our farm system. His strikeout to at bat ratio is kind of scary, but that'll be a risk-reward type of thing. I haven't heard much about Nick Adenhart, but from the info I've seen, it sounds like he's already having elbow trouble. At least according to the reports I saw, he's already had "Tommy John" surgery and he's only twenty one years old. Acquiring either Jeff Mathis or Reggie Willits would be icing on the cake. For one of those two players, I'd be willing to add in another player. I know I stated before that I wouldn't be in favor of doing so, but the possibility of adding this type of talent is a once in a MLB life time, type of thing.

Maybe not but each team still won because of pitching.

White Sox were ranked 1st in ERA in the AL.

Cardinals had Chris Carpenter (and he was a legit ace for three years) and he went 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA in the postseason.

The Angels were ranked 2nd in ERA in the AL, not to mention they had Washburn, Appier, Ortiz, and Lackey finish with ERAs under 4.00 during the season.

The Yankees don't necessarily need Santana so they could make the postseason but having Santana will increase their chances at winning postseason games - the ones he pitches.

Santana has a 3.97 ERA in the postseason with 32 K's in 34 IP.

He's also got a 1.35 ERA in the last 3 postseason games (in two years). Seeing as how that's right around the time he became a full blown ace, I can't see how he isn't lights out in the postseason.

I doubt it's Ellsbury, which will lead me to say WTF are they giving the BoSox a discount? Whatever, if this is true, this is not good for Yankees, but nothing is a certain just yet. I'll take my chances with the current roster.

If it's Ellsbury, the trade is just waiting for Santana's signature on the Red Sox's dotted line.

That rotation is just SCARY. The only team in the AL that comes close in terms of overall pitching staff are the Jays. They have a top 5 bullpen with a rotation with a lot of potential to be very good but could just as easily be mediocre.

If this trade goes down then it'd be very hard to say no to the Sox winning the AL East.
