Yup at this point it seems like the Red Sox know there are not other serious players. I don't believe for a second that the Twins are planning on keeping Santana. They're not going to compete in 2008 regardless, they obviously can't re-sign him and the Red Sox package is a lot better than a late 1st round pick and a sandwich round pick.

Seems to me like they're stalling in hopes somebody else gets involved.

I think that keeping Johan for the year is the worst thing that could happen. We have no shot at re-signing him and we aren't going to compete. It seems like we are likely stalling to see if either the Yankees or Red Sox panic and make an offer to "change" our mind. That likely isn't going to happen at this point which really blows.

True, like i said the Twins screwed themselves on this one if they have to keep Santana when thye could have accepted the Yankees offer.

Still not sure why you think the Yankees offer was better than either of the rumored Red Sox offers still on the table.

I didnt say that. The Sox offer was equally as good but by stalling and with the Yanks backing out the Sox probably dont have to offer as much now.

According to ESPN, Peter Gammons said that at this point, it appears that the Twins may have him for the season..

maybe it's their last effort to drive up their price for the Sox or Yanks. Yankees could always wait till he hits free agency and outbid the Mets for him.

Why are you so intent on ripping the Twins every chance you get? We get it, you don't like them and that is fine.

John Heyman is reporting on WFAN that the Mets and Twins are back to talking again. However, Reyes cannot be the centerpiece of the trade.

I can't tell you how much it pisses me off that people want to compare Ellsbury or Lester to Hughes. It's really not even close. Hughes is a much better prospect than both of them. Twins are really stupid for not taking up on the Hughes offer.

nobody is saying that the sox prospects were better than hughes. Hughes is the best prospect in the talks. I am saying that the whole package what the sox are offering is more complete trade for the Twins. The fill a lot of the holes they have with the sox trade.

Agreed about Hughes, but it's too bad for the Yanks that they have Hank blabbering his mouth every five seconds like a 10 year old whining in kickball.

It seems that way now but initially they thought they could use that to get Ellsbury and Lester from Boston.

Then, Hank opened his mouth and I think it hurt all three teams. It put the Yankees out of the running and makes them look bad if they get back in. It put the Twins against a wall because it's not up to the Yankees to force them to trade on a specific date. The Twins are an organization like the Yankees that are trying to find the best deal possible. And it gave Boston some leverage that may end up being too good for them because now the Twins are on this mindset that Boston should exceed what the Yankees were initially offering.

I'm not surprised that Gammons says that any potential deal is either dead or in a stallmate. Every team involved has a different agenda and no one is meeting the Twins demands.

The Twins weren't the ones that cut off negotiations. Cashman was not willing to deal Hughes.

Up until the weekend he wasn't but then the team decided to include Hughes.

What caused everything to implode is the Twins countering with Ian Kennedy being included. Cashman didn't want to give up both of his young pitchers in one deal.

That's when Hank fired back and said that the Twins need to decide on the Hughes without Kennedy deal by Monday or it's off the table.
