Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Thought we'd fire this back up
Tony Oliva
Dick Allen
Mike Mussina
Kevin Brown
Would you vote for any of them?

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Dick Allen - The man has a CAREER OPS+ of 156...that's insane. He had 8 full seasons where he posted an OPS+ of 150 or more. His 1972 season was INSANE. He should have been in a LONG time ago. Yes, I'd vote for him.
Mike Mussina - I already talked about him in this week's game thread...I'd vote him and Schilling in.
Kevin Brown - He's a notch below Mussina/Schilling, IMO, but he's a HOF'r and I'd vote for him."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring." - Rogers HornsbyComment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Dick Allen should've gotten in right after this photo was taken.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
Tony Oliva- No. High quality player before injuries derailed his career.
Dick Allen- No. Had the HOF peak, but not the longevity or counting stats. He also has way too much personality.
Mike Mussina- Yes. Both him and Schilling should be in.
Kevin Brown- Yes. Should have gotten more than one ballot. Might get a chance with the veterans committee. Mitchell report hurts him.
The standard for pitchers being elected to the HOF has been ultra high recently. If things continue, it is going to be rough going for the current generation of elite pitchers in the non-Kershaw category.Comment

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
If you think he's not a HOF'r for what he did on the field, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it...I won't argue that point. The second part, however, I have a problem with. What the heck does "personality" have to do with a man's HOF credentials? I want to avoid TOS violations here, so I'll stop here...but I have a problem with everything after the word "stats" in your statement."People ask me what I do in winter when there's no baseball. I think you can make a case for everyone on that list.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?
This is why I rarely comment on who I think should go into the Hall of Fame, as opposed to who I think will make it. There's no question that both (particularly older) writers and players alike consider "personality" when it comes to who gets in. Is it fair? No. Has it helped certain players make the HOF (Puckett, Vizquel in a few years) and hurt others (Belle, Brown, Schilling, Andruw Jones, among others)? Absolutely.
