Judging from the fact that people are even considering Dunn makes it impossible to figure out who's serious or not at this point.

Ding ding ding. Though I've been told that sarcasm translates poorly via text.

I don't really understand this sentiment. Yes, Dunn won't and shouldn't get in. No one is really making any case that he will/should make it in. But the guy will have 450 HRs by the time he's done so he at least deserves a vote/mention. I mean, sure Kingman is another 400+ HR guy who deserves almost no consideration, but Dunn is quite a lot better than Kingman was.

Besides, airing cases of guys that have some credentials (the HRs and BBs in Dunn's case) but that have fatal flaws (defense, strikeouts, contact, and longevity in Dunn's case) help people refine their criteria of what is actually important to them when voting on a guy. Is 500 HR a lock? Is 450 HR a lock? Are there exceptions? Do you need more than 1 stat? How many metrics do you look at? yadda yadda yadda

Dunn will go down in history as perhaps the worst defensive player of all time. Even if he didn't strike out like 30% of the time he still shouldn't be even close to a HoF player.

There is literally no chance a 1 way player like Adam Dunn will even come close to the hall.

Adam Dunn is this generation's Dave Kingman...and Kingman, despite his 400+ HR's, never sniffed the HOF. Same fate awaits Dunn.

Here's an interesting one that I thought I'd bring up. Ellis Burks. He had a pretty solid career. Always produced good numbers. Nothing jaw dropping but he was consistent.

He fell off the ballot after one year and I have no issues with that.

If Dwight Evans doesn't get the nod I don't see why Ellis Burks should.

Their are so many names in here getting thrown around for the HOF that just shouldn't be.

Re: Hall Of Fame: Yes Or No?

Ummm, what's the point of having a HoF discussion thread if only "approved" names can be mentioned? Some players might be closer to the HoF in one guys' mind than another's. No one has been inducted unanimously yet. Not Babe Ruth. Not Ted Williams. Not Lou Gehrig. So, I think there's plenty of room for opinion, and bringing up solid players like Burks, speed merchants like Pierre, and 450-500 HR guys like Dunn is not really beyond the pale. I figure if a player will go on the ballot at some point (or was on the ballot), even though they might only get 0.5% of the vote, what's the harm in discussing? At the very least we get to reminisce.

I was under the impression that guys like Adam Dunn were just obvious No's, I wouldn't even put Dunn or Bobby Bonds in the Hall of Very Good.

I dunno man, guys who end up not making the Hall with 450-500 HRs and have no hint of roid speculation (and a .368 OBP) are very rare breeds. You can count maybe 5-10 of them in baseball history. I think it deserved at least a glance, if not a look. Not saying anyone should vote 'yea'

                              Who cares? lol

It's a discussion thread. Give your opinions or give a name that you want to be discussed. There isn't a right or wrong player to suggest for discussion. If someone wonder's what people think about Adam Dunn's chances to get into the Hall, what's wrong with asking in here, even if it is a unanimous 'no'?

One thing that would be kind of cool would be marking down the unanimous 'yes' players and listing them on the front page. It would probably be a lot of work but just something I thought of.

Yea, but anyone with a career .239 BA is just a hell no, unless he was some supreme fielder, which Dunn is clearly not. His War is 23.5 LOL. The only thing Dunn can do is hit home runs or strikeout. He's just an unimpressive player all around.

And Bobby Bonds is a huge no too.
