    Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread

I don't know when the Braves will make a move, but I fully expect a new reliever in the bullpen fairly soon.

Frank Wren could not have seen the loss of Eric O'Flaherty, Jonny Venters, and Cristhian Martinez for the year coming in Spring Training.

Didn't this fall through because of a medical? I don't think that's the media. I hope the Cubs don't cave on their price because of this.

Yeah it's been reported it might have been Olt's vision problem or Ramirez's shoulder issues.

Well reporting that a deal is complete (or will be completed tonight...semantics) before the medicals have been reviewed is absolutely irresponsible journalism. We've seen several trades crash and burn on medical info. For Cubs, it was most recently the Marmol-Haren deal that feel through.

people have to understand, everything is fluid. A deal was most likely agreed upon but the physicals (which usually are a foregone conclusion) held up a deal that was done. So that doesn't bother me very much.

Back to trade talk: Ken Rosenthal said on FOX Saturday Baseball pregame show that the A's are looking at getting involved in the Garza talks. This isn't just a "drive cost up to make Texas give up more" ploy...this is said to be "extremely serious" interest.

That's the irresponsible part--journalists who blow off important stuff like that. Medicals are HUGE in baseball. Often the difference between a trade happening or not, or a 1-year contract and a multi-year deal.

Yea, A's are in on Garza "for the right price".
Hell, my beer league softball team is on Garza for the right price.

Garza doesn't really seem like a fit for the A's in the least, although I could see the Cubbies wanting some of that young pitching.

Colon suspension insurance and one of the big knocks on us in the playoffs last year was the lack of experience on the mound. The young guys constantly say how much they learned from Colon. Having another vet on the roster wouldn't hurt.

But yea, I'd rather see them go after a 2B.

                      Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread

To LAD: Chase Utley, Michael Young, Carlos Ruiz, Jonathan Papelbon, 1\2 to 3\4 of all salary

TO Phi: Zach Lee, Joc Pedersen, Dee Gordon, Tim Fedorowicz, Chris Withrow, Onelki Garcia

LAD are in win now mode more than any team in baseball...this trade fills the holes that the Dodgers have.

Philly needs to shed salary and restock with players that are big league ready, or close to it.
Anyone else think this is somewhat crazy?

Philly isn't getting nearly enough back in that deal, especially with the salary being eaten.

And I can see Young, Ruiz, and Utley being upgrades, but they don't really need Pap.

Not with Jansen they don't. You guys better hope the Red Sox or Tigers do something stupid cause he's declining.

I would actually be pretty content with that trade as a Phillies fan... aside from the fact they are eating salary. If they could haggle with LA to be clear of the salaries or at least not pay THAT much then that would be a good trade for them. But they should be able to get more than that for guys like Ruiz and Young.

I have also heard a rumor that the Rockies might go after Utley, but I doubt the Rockies really do anything at the deadline. Maybe add a reliever at the most.
