The White Sox would be crazy to turn down that trade. However, as a Braves fan I hope they do haha.

WTF? Why in the great man up there's name decline a trade that involves one of the best pitching prospects on the market, for an above average SS? I really hope that they really didn't decline it, because if they did, Chicago really needs to look into other GMs. (Not that they already should)

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
I think they should move him. He'd probably be the best pitcher on the market (only one close is Peavy imo), and I think he'd get a solid haul. They shouldn't be holding out for some ridiculous package or anything, honestly."Twelve at-bats is a pretty decent sample size." - Eric ByrnesComment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
If the Royals are smart, then they'll deal him sooner rather than later.. meaning they better trade him for a good package before a market for starting pitching develops. Teams will overpay big time for quality starting pitching and if someone isn't going to overpay, then we might as well hang onto him.
I've heard that sound 3 times... once was Babe Ruth, the second was Josh Gibson, and the third was Bo Jackson- Buck O'Neil

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
Problem for Dayton Moore is selling now basically confirms the mistake he made in the James Shields trade. I mean what are the chances they meet his asking price now?Last edited by WaitTilNextYear; 07-24-2013, 09:05 PM.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
If James Shields doesn't resign and the Royals trade Ervin Santana or he doesn't resign, we're right back to square 1 in 2015 with Jeremy Guthrie and Wade Davis leading the rotation supplemented by homegrown guys that will need time to adjust to the big leagues.

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
Yeah, my view is more in line with AC in that the Royals made a "one more piece" move (well actually 2 more since they got Davis too) when they were about 6-7 pieces shy of a playoff contender. And they paid a steep price in prospects (Myers, Odo, Leonard). Even, if it went well and KC actually made the playoffs, paying Shields and piecing together a competitive team for 2014 was always going to be a problem.
But, yeah, @royals19 I can see why you'd like James Shields as a Royals fan. He's good!
But, if you think about it, it was almost like when Jim Hendry dealt for Matt Garza when the Cubs were already on the downslope of their little playoff run there.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

With no Kris Medlen-to-the-bullpen now, I expect the Braves to add two relievers instead of one. Would be a good idea, anyway.Comment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
With the way the Phillies and Nationals have played lately, and now being 8 games and 9 games back respectively, neither team has any business being buyers. The Phillies haven't said so, but that poor showing against the Cardinals tonight put up the for sale sign in my book. I'd put everyone up for sale except Hamels, Lee, Brown, Revere, and Utley. Hamels, Brown, and Revere are definitely not going anywhere anyway, but just saying. Everyone else....have at it.Comment

I'd like to keep all the guys you said, and maybe Papelbon. I'm hoping if we do put him on the block we'd actually be able to get a nice haul, as opposed to what is being said about him (his contract makes him "virtually untradeable").
It was a good run, but the window is all but closing.Comment

Re: 2013 Trade Deadline Thread
right. I've just about given up now - with the team they have, there's no way they'd be able to compete with the NL's best teams (or even the AL's, honestly).

I wanted to keep Papelbon, but I'm at the point now where I have no problem making him available and seeing if anyone bites. Hard guy to trade with the way he's been pitching lately and that contract, but a desperate team may bite. Not to mention there is no point having a top closer when you aren't going anywhere.
I wouldn't mind seeing Rollins go. He is the biggest offender in my opinion of showing he isn't hungry to win anymore. Michael Young will most likely be the first one to go. I wouldn't be shocked to see him gone by Monday after the Tigers series is over. I think Ruiz definitely goes too. When it comes to Cliff Lee though, I would have to think the Phillies would have to be mind boggling blown away to move him. Gonna be an interesting week leading up to the deadline for sure, and it wouldn't surprise me to see a whole different team beginning Tuesday against the Giants.Comment
