Manfred stated he'd be open to continuing expanded playoffs but not with 16 teams, and by rewarding division winners.

I'd love a 7 team "pick your poison" format (its not rumored, just something I'd love to see)

1 seed gets a bye to the LDS

2 seed gets to pick who of the 4,5,6,7 seed they play.

3 seed gets to pick one of those 3 remaining teams to play

The 2 teams not chosen square off with the winner facing the 1 seed

So the best team gets a BYE, and the 2 other division winners get a reward for winning the division in the form of being able to choose who they play in round 1. That puts so much importance on winning division.

It would be cool to have, because you know winning the division guarantees home field AND for the 2 and 3 seed, you choose who you play. In baseball especially, matchups are so over analyzed. You know the analytics department would be hard at work seeing which team would be the best matchup. It's not just about record, it's about how your pitchers fare against the other teams that and vice versa.

And like I've said for all other sports when I bring up this "pick your poison" stuff, it builds rivalries. Twins vs Astros is one thing. Twins vs Astros where Twins CHOSE to play Astros instead of Jays,Cleveland,NY is a whole other story. Now its personal.

It's pretty insane to me that the Angels have never won a playoff game (not even a pennant or a series, but a single game) in the Mike Trout era.

I was as upset as the next guy, but never once did robot umpires cross my mind nor will it ever. In fact, I want them to get rid of the box during live pitches as I watch the game as well.

I feel bad for Slater's hat trick, though. All three backwards K's were out of the strike zone.
