Go to an NL Central/West team and get traded to the other division during the season. Then he could say he's played in every division in the league.

Good, I wanna see him pitching til he can't physically throw a baseball to the catcher accurately anymore.

BTW as for the Vladdy Jr. thing, did the PA go on and on about the Cubs and Kris Bryant? I don't seem to recall that. Yes, it's patently a business decision on the Jays part but other teams have done it. Unfortunately, I think this might be a case where the union and owners are going to butt heads about call ups and service time and this case is going to be prime example brought up.

I like the NHL system the best in terms of minor league rules/assignments. Even NBAs isn't bad either as it allows some guys to go up and down several times a year with no issues.

MLB with all these rules, options and so on seems too much.

Guys in the MLB can go up and down as many times as they want in a year as long as they have an option left

I think he's getting at service time though, I don't really know the other sports' policies on this but we all know MLB teams want to delay that service time to preserve options and arbitration rules and all that fun stuff

If the players want to get rid of service time, they can fight for regular contracts for minor Leaguers but we all know they won't do that. It would dip into their own earning potential.

And there is no reason for teams to give up service time control. Maybe players can instead focus on shortening the years until minor league free agency. Though I'm sure teams will work some 40-man magic and focus on players with versatility to avoid needing all 40 players unless injury strikes.

I also worry that if the players were to find a way to win and get a system more like the NBA or NFL, the MLB product will suffer for some time before adjustments are made.

Teams with no incentive to keep a player in the minors would promote all the promising ones. Imagine veteran MLB pitchers facing guys that should be in AA. Or the reverse of veteran batters facing pitchers needing more work.

                      The game would get ugly.

I wonder if they'd be willing to lower the time to free agency to 4 years instead of 6, or even 3, and add in a restricted free agency period for 4 or 5 years. The player's commitment to the team becomes 8 years as long as the team wants them, but they could negotiate with other teams and at least get paid in the meantime, get out of arbitration. It'll be interesting to see how the next CBA gets figured out.

The service time issue is going to be huge I think. I don't know how they'll come to a consensus or what that will look like, but something needs to be done. It's brutal for a guy to be under control for 6 years with no real chance to earn their value for at least 4 of those 6.

Speaking of the Metropolitans, they're activating David Wright on the 25th and he'll be starting against the Marlins the 29th, which is most likely his last start ever.

David Wright is the Mets version of Don Mattingly in many ways.
