Scoring isn't down? It's most runs we've seen per game since 2007.

HRs are well higher than any year in MLB history. I'd take it though. HRs are way more exciting.

Although what's not as exciting is the amount of strikeouts.

MLB today is almost literally a hit or miss game. HRs AND Strikeouts are at MLB historic highs.

2019 is on pace to break most strikeouts per game record set in 2018. Which beat out previous record set in 2017. Which beat out previous record set in 2016. I'm just comparing this season to 2000, which is the furthest back ESPN has a stat chart on.

This year the MLB team average through 81 games is 386 runs scored. In 2000 the average for the entire season was 832.

Take the shift example. Hitters would rather try to hit into a shift and hope they get a HR. All the have to do is put a bunt or line drive to the other side and if its out of the infield, they may even end up with a double. Hitters aren't even looking to just get on base.

The strike out numbers for past pitchers are really impressive when you look at what pitchers today do against the easier competition/approach to hitting.

I believe that. I'll still see some balls off contact from the BTP cam and say: "There is no way that ball is going out," only for it to just never let up at all and clear the fence by more than plenty.

Mets honored the 1969 Miracle Mets team and put 2 players that are still alive in the memorial montage. How does that even happen? Did they not do their research and just assume their dead? Was it not checked for mistakes first?

                Only the Mets.

Look at the NBA free agency, not necessarily talking about the drama and intrigue, but about how everything moves so fast and everyone can't wait to sign. For MLB it seems like a problem of: 1) supply and demand 2) and a strategical/tactical decision to nickle and dime (not that you shouldn't follow the optimal strategy for your endgame). MLB's free agency has become such a grind and it isn't fun anymore.

I don't mind it. Players don't change teams like they're changing underwear, things aren't prearranged and manufactured years in advance, there's an actual effort to not recklessly spend money so that teams don't get saddled with contracts that will only end up needing to be "stretched" or traded away to clear space for hostage-taking players to force their way to preferred destinations, etc. Not to mention everything "happening in one day leads to complete doldrums for months, as opposed to things being spread around over the offseason.

I'm good with the way things are. Baseball is a smarter game.

Baseball is the smarter game, but not the one with the most fun (I'm talking free agency).

The being "spread around" is an illusion, more like spread thin. You get some deals early. Then nothing. Then that useless Winter Meetings. Then a deal. Then nothing. Then an article about how slow everything is and how team/owners are colluding. Then nothing. Then another article about how teams are low-balling this or that free agent. Then nothing. Then we get to hear Scott Boras. Then nothing. Then an article about how Spring Training is approaching. Then nothing. Then an article linking what's happening in baseball to late stage capitalism and how it is microcosm for the political climate at large. Then a private Spring Training "showcase" for free agents. Then nothing. Then another article about how the Union is mad. Then nothing. Then players report. Then a deal. Then nothing. Then another article about collusion and how a strike is coming after the CBA expires. And then when so much time has passed for anybody to care and everyone is mad then a deal. Then an article about how smart it is for teams to wait on Y or Z free agent until 2 months in because of the pick compensation.

And in the NBA players signing so quick does nothing to tamper the enthusiasm, if anything it enhances the anticipation for the next season.

And yes, MLB could use some players changing teams. No sense in dying a martyr toiling away in an awful team wasting the rest of your prime (I'm looking at you Mike Trout).
