I wonder if they will try to move Chuck Swirsky to the booth? I know he filled in for Hawk a few times last season and they have a similar style though Chuck can at least be a little more balanced at times.

Man....I MISS old Tiger Stadium. Comerica has NOTHING on the charm that old park had.

My fave part of Tiger Stadium was playing home run Derby's in it on old school MLB games. Steroid guys killing 500ft shots there looked huge.

So I guess we should start the "Ortiz coming out of retirement to provide big bat" talk soon. Pedro basically pushed that angle when they were talking about the Red Sox needing that one final piece in the lineup.

With Harper back to his old self, one American League general manager told ESPN's Eddie Matz that Harper getting $400 million in a couple years would be "light."

“Four hundred million is light,” said the GM. “It's going to be more than that. If you could sign him to a 15-year contract, you do it. I would say something in the range of $35 million a year, maybe closer to the high 30s. It could approach $40 million a year.”

I cant wait for those negotiations to start. Just start the dude at a 10% stake in the franchise and go from there. Its gonna be great.

Nah, there's nothing there. Pedro even clarified that he was just talking about how good of a shape Ortiz was in still.

At some point in the not-too-distant future the TV money bubble is going to pop (for all sports, not just MLB). It's going to be hard for salaries to keep rocketing up when that happens.

This makes no sense to me. I can understand why a team might have to offer more than 10 years to win a bidding war, but why would anyone want to do so? Never pay big money for a player's age 35-40 seasons.

Boston Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy took bizarre exception to Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka being visited by Japanese translator Shingo Horie and pitching coach Larry Rothschild in the fourth inning of Tuesday’s game.

“I don’t think that should be legal,” Remy said. “I really don’t.”

“What is it you don’t like about that?” asked Dave O’Brien, Remy’s partner in the booth.

“Learn baseball language. You know, learn—it’s pretty simple,” Remy said. “You break it down pretty easy between pitching coach and pitcher after a long period of time.”

“I would say that probably, you know, they’re concerned about nuance being lost in some of these conversations,” O’Brien responded, trying to steer the discussion back to more inclusive ground.
This is 'Murica, speak baseball. You'd think after the whole Adam Jones debacle last month that a Red Sox announcer, of all people, would steer clear of expressing incredibly terrible, discriminatory opinions on air.
