What's up with Khris Davis right now? He's not batting .247 (entered today at .228).

    This is concerning.

A lot of people are calling for Alex Cora's head too. Which is....something.

We literally just had perhaps the greatest season the Red Sox have ever completed. And now that we might miss the Wild Card, Alex Cora apparently needs to be fired.

On the contrary. He needs to be batting 2th, 4th, or 7th.

Besides, he needs to hit probably in the .280's the rest of the year to get back up to that again. That's highly unlikely no matter where he hits in the order.

I say that because he has batted 5th a few times this season and is hitting .348 when he does. I wouldn't bat him 2nd but 7th sounds about right too.

especially considering the Cubs hadn't had back to back 90 win seasons since 1929-1930. I guess Chicago is the new City of Brotherly Love

Clearly you missed the two jokes in my post:

                1) Those numbers spell out 247.
                2) I'm surprised you didn't correct me on "2th," haha.

Yes, he probably does need to be batting 5th. If I stated that a player can't just bat anywhere and be successful, there are clearly some places that you should place them to be successful. 5th might be that spot for him.

So a Yankees fan making this comment makes me chuckle...

It's all about context and expectations. You build a juggernaut like the Cubs were in 2016 and then get a worse result every year afterward. Some fans want to give Joe Maddon credit for the team being loaded with good players. I like to think he was mostly in the right place at the right time. But here we are indeed.

I don't know, Maddon may not be a perfect manager, but there are a whole lot more worse options than there are better ones.

But you're making his point, just for the reason he shouldn't be retained. It's not about wins and losses, it's about not getting enough out of the roster as to why he shouldn't be back.

For Maddon, it's not about wins and losses, it's about his relationships or whatever as to why he thinks he'll be back.

I’ve always felt that Rich Renteria got a raw deal with the Cubs job...I’ve hoped that he gets to see the White Sox rebuild through. Would suck to manage both Chicago teams in their rebuilds and watch someone else win with the fruit.

He really did with the Cubs. That roster was terrible when he was there and I thought he did a good job developing some of the talent

Yeah Renteria did a really good job reversing the regression the Cubs saw in Starlin Castro and Anthony Rizzo the year before (that was under either Mike Quade or Dale Sveum....so seriously it can get A LOT worse than Maddon).

I just don't see any really attractive alternative options for the Cubs. They could go the trendy route and hire a young(ish) recently retired player (Mark Loretta is currently the bench coach so he'd likely be considered), but for every Craig Counsell and Aaron Boone there is a Gabe Kapler and a Mickey Callaway (I don't mean to trash those guys there's just been a decent amount of disappointment there).
